How to Match Subject with Background in Photoshop | Part 1
Вставка
- Опубліковано 21 тра 2018
- Powerful Tools and Techniques to Blend the Subject with the Background in Photoshop! Right from making selections to creating shadows, in this tutorial, we'll go through the complete process of making the perfect composite step-by-step. Using interesting tools like advanced gradient maps, and dodging and burning to get the subject match the background.
In this part, we will focus on creating monochromatic composites. Firstly, we will make a selection using Color Range as the background is mostly separated by color. Then, once we place the subject in the background and set the correct size and level, we will use tools like Curves, Gradient Maps, Layer Styles, and perform dodging and burning to get the subject to blend.
In the end, to unify the whole composite, we will apply some global effects which will make both the elements one. I hope this tutorial helps you. Thank you so much for watching!

Once again, he is not only the expert teacher, but also a genius in his artistic use of sophisticated technology.
absolutely right
*an expert teacher
Then you probably don't know what you are talking about, he showed way too many redundant steps not to mention some incorrect stuff mainly the part about the lighting and overall really REALLY bad workflow which is the MOST important thing.
You shouldn't learn from it because it's trash as a tutorial, at least this video.
Barak Attias Can you give me an example of a good video regarding this? Just for reference.
Can you give me an example of a good video regarding this? Just for reference.
Everytime when I think that he finished his work, it’s only half of the video! Another half of the video, he makes it perfect! Thank you for the work that you do, you really helping

drop shadows on the hair is not good
I never thought an Indian accent would sound this soothing....
Also, great video!
You should listen to some yoga instructional videos! :)
I really like this accent compared to others. If this would be this normal Indian accent I wouldn't watch it. Seriosly, you're amazing!
@@alexanderreiner7694 It is north indian accent . You know about south indian accent.
@@brana5295 Not true. I have heard many north Indian politicians. Accents in south as well in rest of India vary, based on the kind of school they attend.
This guy is so amazing. He's not afraid to make his videos long, and that's how it should be. Learning how to use PS takes time. He even showed us how to open documents because "he doesn't want to keep us confused", while many youtubers just keep jumping steps that seem obvious (to them, at least). He is the best, hands down.
What....how is this free? You are a gosh friggen darn GURU! THANK YOU!
Because some people actually care about helping people more than making money.
Forget the matching subject with background part, I've been using select color range for years and years with great results and this just schooled me. I learned so much, Wow thanks!
Thank you brother 😘

I've seen a lot of photoshop tutorials. This is easily one of the best ones out there. Your video production quality is extremely high, your instructions are easy to hear and follow, there's no wasted time or gimmicks in the video, your methods are very effective and non-destructive, and your final image looks amazing. In addition to all that, you are very friendly and comfortable in front of the camera. Excellent tutorial. Thanks so much!
This man... he has changed my life. I so appreciate all I learn and continue to learn from these videos.
Excellent tutorial, Unmesh! Will really help on my composites! :)
Thank you, Diana! Really happy to hear that.
This is actually legitimately amazing!!! I've been trying to figure this out for the longest time. I've watched videos about using the selective colour method, and colour balance, but your method is so much easier and less dependent on how colour blind a person is. You are an amazing teacher, and a genius. I wish you every success. Thanks.
To say d truth, dis guy is a good teacher, even someone that is using photoshop for the first time will understand it...am not use to commenting on youtube videos or subscribing, but dis impressed me...u are a genius
You make it seem so simple! The best thing is that you explain things in a way that a beginner will be able to understand. There is always something new to discover with your tutorials and you come across as incredibly likeable and easy to listen to!
“make sure that the blackest black is not totally black”
and
“the brightest color is not bright enough, let’s make it brighter”
are my favorite quotes of this video 😂😂😂😂
in b&w it should be full black
timemark?
I love your style of teaching, soothing voice, cheerful smile and the quality of your tutorials! You are the best!
Genius tutorial. I have been wanting to learn how to do a manual vignette and now I know. Thank you.
THANK YOU!! I know you posted a while back...i'm just now after using Photoshop for nearly 30 years attempting to expand my knowledge and usage of it beyond my basic needs at work! YOU ARE A HUGE HELP! I've never though I really needed to expand my knowledge beyond what was required here at work....but I think I can do sooooooo much more if I only knew where to look ...before it was just get the image ready an email or catalog ...but I want to create!! only took me getting into my 50s to want to use PS to its fullest... better late than never and you are making it easy for me ...so again THANK YOU
Actually I'm watching a graphic genius here!! Your tutorials are amazing, keep them up
I've been using Photoshop since the late 90's but your videos are teaching me loads of things I wouldn't have had a clue of how to do otherwise. Great videos, well explained, and useful. Keep up the great work.
Wonderful work my man, keep it up. I've learned a thing or two.
You completely blew my mind with the Shift+Alt+click with the eyedropper tool. I had no idea you could do that!
Amazing tutorial that I have never came across so far.
Thank you so much Giruji.
Your tutorial helped me another time as always brother.
Thank you again and again Unmesh.
I'm pretty sure you just changed my life - very thorough explanations. Just when you think it's perfect, you make it even better! Bonus: credit given to the support team. LOVE THAT.
Probably the best tutorial I have ever seen...
I hate youtube for not recommending me your channel before! Nice job!
Mr Dinda you have truly master Photoshop........great video.
Man, that is an extremely useful tutorial as usually. It could not be explained any clearer than that. Thanks a lot
I've been doing this kind of thing the same way for two decades (the long and arduous way). Thanks for showing me some new tricks!
Waiting for this video thank you so much bro
Such clear explanations, and great teaching. So much patience too! Subscribed!
man your the most relaxed person in the universe. Love your tutorials
i don't understand why some people dislike this awesome tutorial. Keep uploading mate.
Best photoshop tutor I've ever seen !
I'm very impressed! You just earned a subscriber ^_^
This man knows a lot of photoshop or post processing techniques than anyone else.
He is also a best teacher. He teaches in a way both beginners and advance editors understand everything he says.
I just had the same of yours, Dinda bro!
What a lession!
Basic concept in brief:
Put the subject on the background
take a layer mask on the subject
Then a Gradient Map on it
On gradient map take the sample of Highligts ans Shadows of the background while selecting the Symbol not the layer
That's it you got a matching background Subject.
The rest is your caricature!
Thank you again.
so satisfying listening to his voice
Most satisfying voice, love this *channel.*
great man! you are teaching people a skill for free that they can earn money , so dont let negative comments to disturb you. keep on posting
best channel in UA-cam about Photoshop
Came for the video. Stayed for the hair.

All the hair
hahaha!

LOL
the reason overlay does not spill out is because it paints over shades of gray but does not paint over 100% white of 100% black it will only paint over shades in between(for those who were confused why) buts amazing I never thought of using if in masks like that, just realised how un open my mind it :P thx man
PS: you dont need to hold alt to make a mark with eye dropper just shift is fine
Till the way you explain a thing is just Amazing. I love your teaching method.
Thank you so much for your tutorials! You make the information easy to follow...much appreciated!! And, thank you to the Patreons!!!!
Great techniques here. One thing you didn't address is when there is a substantial resolution difference between the elements. Zoom in to this image and you'll see the lady is much finer resolution than the more pixelated and fuzzy background. Sometimes you may want to add noise or play with slight posterization on the finer element to bring it down to better match the less resolved element.
I noticed this as well. Great tutorial nonetheless though.
"specific shades of gray"
Me giggling in my head: 50 shades of gray lol
His videos are lengthy when compared to others. But we can learn the subject even with half of the topic covered. But watching his full video makes you PERFECT and ACCURATE over others.
By far one of the best narrators i've ever seen and great explanation on the subject.
First comment ❤️
Good stuff, however we must remember that on the shadow side of every object, there is always "reflected light." This light will be reflected from the ground or sky, etc. All professional photographers and those trained in the arts understand this. I was trained in classical drawing and painting. He should not be getting rid of reflected light. Taking out fringe light from the masking is proper, but he should explore the best ways to bring in natural-looking reflected light. This is where an artistic background (training) is beneficial, since you may have to paint some of this in or use some more sophisticated methods with blending modes to get the reflected light. To my eye, it is not natural to see all reflected light obliterated. This is the problem. If you study drawing and painting, you will know that it is OK to lose the line between subject and shadow in certain areas, but not to obliterate this distinction between the two altogether. In the arts, this is called "lost and found edges." If you google that, you can see examples of what I'm saying. Once you learn this principle, you work will progress to a much higher level. I'd like to see him address this problem in a future video. Perhaps with this same photo. To be clear, there is some lost and found edges going on, but the overall reflected light is not correct and not at all believable in this photo. I still appreciate his teaching though.
Totally agree! Too bad you made this comment almost 2 years after this video was made. It deserves more attention. There may be tons of people who don't have a background in art and have watched this video and are probably making unconvincing composites because they don't fully understand how light and shadow works.
I love that multiply trick on the mask !! very helpful! thanks
Just wow, isn't that interesting? It looks perfect. New subscriber here, thanks for this awesome tutorial. Great job UA-cam algorithm for recommending this kind of vids.
You put shadow on wrong side, because if you put shadow on her right side then her left side must be brighter
Download links are not working
you are honestly better than 90% of my teachers :0 clear, consise and straight to the point, great video!
you have such a friendly voice, I had you playing on the background without needing this
Damn even his beard is perfect as his tutorial
Let's add curves
He made me think I Kno nothin about ps 😂
Love watching your tutorials.
Clear and to the point.
"Fur other a dew" 😂
Great video and clear instructions! 👍
"Now, we need to change the blend mode of this one to soft light. WHERE IS SOFT LIGHT ?! There it is.."
if i knew all of this 3 years ago when i had time to play with photoshop 😭
You hv a wealth of knowledge & competency AND excellent teacher. Your summary at the end is very useful reinforcement of the learning. THANK YOU SIR.
Seriously...you are the best!! For years I've taken multiple Photoshop courses and felt that I could teach myself much better - until I found your channel. You are an excellent teacher!! Thank you for doing such an amazing job! 😊
Can you make videos on manipulation brother?
Sure Nabeel, there are already 3 videos on manipulation in this channel. More to come soon!
Okay thanks brother!
He's not ur brothrr
Flowey's hot jamz who the hell are you to tell this?
Nabeel Anees dunno
what if the background image is colored?
Make sure that it's not 😉
I think you would still select the high, mid & low points and create a gradient map for the second image.
You are amazing! Every lesson brings something new. Thank you.
This guy is really a genius with a non-human view....
so fking hard thats why i hate photoshop
keep it up.
