Jim, I’m in zone 8-A. I moved a Gardenia this week. I followed your instructions to the letter. After 3 days of being transplanting it has 3 blooms. I cut 2-3 feet off the top, got them in buckets of water. I watered it in really good and then had 2 days of rain. Thank you so much for all the information you give us.
Thank you, Jim, for confirming that a bed sheet is a sufficient frost covering and identifying how much temperature protection one sheet will provide. Much appreciated :)
I have a bin full of "frost sheets" that let all the neighborhood know what ugly sheets I used to have. Lol but hey the plants last longer and I'm not fancy.😂
Was a good season of videos. You inspired me to get all the right gear and will be ready for next year. I did a small dollar store tray of cuttings in a bag and next year it'll grow. I need a bigger yard!
I'm going to transplant some Mexican mint marigold that had just taken over some flower beds. How far back should I prune them to give them the best chance? I live in zone 7.
Glad you sold some. I love that idea, but I won’t be doing that in my neighborhood. I’m in an old part of town and couple of blocks away is not not good area.
Hi Jim, I'm new to your channel. Have you ever done a segment on taking perennial cuttings and them moving them indoors for the winter? If not, would you please describe what is needed to maintain cuttings indoors till spring?
Great video. I put in my first greenhouse this year. I am in zone 6b and do ha e a heat source but I don’t plan to heat the house all winter. I also have a lot of small potted perennials (4 inch pots). I was planning to overwinter in the greenhouse but I’m afraid on sunny days that it will heat to high. Yesterday it was 46 outside but 80 in the greenhouse. I’m worried that heat will take them out of dormancy or not allow some to go dormant, which they need. Any suggestions? Should I just put the pots outside in a protected location?
Can I safely plant cuttings from my pear tree at this time of year in Mass.? I have root hormone. Should I keep them indoors or do they require freezing temperatures?
zone 7b. i will soon be putting up 3' tall zippered plastic greenhouse on my 24" tall concrete block raised bed. do i also need to use frost covering for the winter crops in it? mostly lettuces.
I’m in south Georgia (zone 8b). My gardenia and confederate jasmine cuttings from this summer-right or wrong, I already potted them up into trade gallon pots filled with pine bark soil conditioner, and they’re doing well-should I leave them outside over the winter, or should I bring them into the garage?
Can you talk a bit more about ways to overwinter in Zone 5 and below? Presumably, if you were to just bring them inside the house it would stay too warm and possibly get too dry?
So in general, when winterizing plants inside the house, zone 10 tropical hibiscus should not lose be their leaves, just slow or no growth at all. For perennial Salvia in small 4" pots, should they keep their leaves indoors since they typically die back outdoors? Planning on planting them on the ground in Spring.
They things that die completely back should be allowed to get cold enough to do so. The tropical perennials should not be allowed to have any really cold at all.
I vote for a Holly garden webcam. 🙋🏻♀️😍
Poor Holly, has to work the weekend with all of that editing. What a good girl!

Just starting to bring in a few plants indoors, we have dropped to 4 degrees at the early morning. Thanks for sharing your successes.👍❤️😊
That's cold

Very well rooted cuttings
How would you over winter perennials - can’t they freeze and come back ok?
Thanks for sharing!!
I'm going to have save my some annual plants.
What kind of soil did you use for cuttings?

Most of the time it will be fine, but the last couple of weeks in December and all of January there will be nights that need a little extra protection

It's not wrong to have planted them. Just a bit harder to protect. The garage is fine, but outside whenever it is mild.
Very informative thank you!
Thanks for watching
Perfect.🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟!!
Very interesting !!!!
Lol Holly wants to help😀😀
Yes, she does🐕

I have familia seeds, when should I start them in zone 7b

Really they should be in a lightly heated space. A heat mat would probably be the best idea.
Holly just wants to be on UA-cam 🤗
