Yeah i was about to tell ya the same thing, lol... Im in NSW and i got mine in 2007 when i was 27yrs old, i just rocked up to my L's course, then completed it, went to RMS (RTA) and then rebooked for P's. But i had to wait for a few weeks i think or a month because all P courses at the time were all fully booked. Once i finally got my P's course done, went back to RMS, got my P License, but because i was over 25yrs old, i think i just had to hold my P's for 6months or a year could of even been for 3 months, not sure cant remember, before i got my full riders license. But if my memory serves me well i remember the instructor was saying that if you are over 50 or 55yrs old and have full license in NSW, you just turn up to your L's and P's course and then go straight to full license. The instructor was only telling us this at the time because he didnt like that setup and was talking about that the government was going to change that, but not sure what it is exactly now. The reason why the instructor hated that was because he was saying that a lot of people above 50yrs old die really quick on motorcycles because they used to ride bikes when they were kids and stopped riding bikes around the 20's year of age, then come do the quick course back to back, get their full license and go buy a really big or powerful bike and kill themselves weeks or even some months later. The instructor pointed out that these over 50's people dont realize that there reflexes and their notion to handle a big and powerful bike is far more different then riding dirt bikes in the open paddock. Sorry for the wall of text, but good job on the vid and its good to see an Aussie channel for a change!!
I’ve got my green ps for a car and just got my learners permit for a motorcycle, I’m not sure if We’re allowed to solo ride on wa with a learners permit (in wa)
Thanks Kwackajack I am an old head who rode dirtbikes 20 years ago and decided on a whim I wanted a motorbike to ride and enjoy the QLD summer. I have been researching for a few weeks and you still had extra points I wasn't aware of you outlined the process nicely.
I got my bike license about 30 years ago. Back then it was simple. Theory test for L’s and for P’s I was taken out the back of the RTA (now Service NSW) and asked to do a couple of figure eights and a start and stop. That was it. 1 year later got full license without any other testing. I also had been riding since I was a kid in rural NSW. I see how the extra training can help now. Especially for someone who has never ridden before
I didn't realise I had to ride with someone else in my L's. I have to wait until next year to get my licence because I'm going to wait until Im on my red P's for a year. That's for the great info though bro keep it up👍
Great plan, knowing how the road works already is a huge advantage and will make you a lot safer out there. If you need someone to ride with ya when that time comes around, give me a holler 👍🏻
Here, we take a written test after which you have up to obe year pass the driving test or take and successfully complete the MSF course. Of course, you have to be old enough to drive. We have two classes of lic: under 150cc and over 150cc.
The question I’ve been struggling to find an answer on, is, on the RE learners, do you need to have a buddy to ride with you. Some people have been saying you don’t.
Thanks for your information . I have International fully rider motorcycle from Iran, 37 years old I book DKT test in 3 days after passing I have to pass 2 days training, I rode motorcycle for many years when I was in Iran, after that I have to pass P1 or P2 license or fully unrestricted? if I fail in practical exam what will happen later will I be learner?
hey i have a question i live oversea but im am a full australian citizen, recently i realized that im going to move back to australia for uni in about 4 years but i have a full license for a motorcycle in the country im currently living in and i drive the same bike that your driving, do you think that im elegible to skip the lams course when i come back to australia?
LOL this is a joke how long it takes! I literally was just looking into this so that I could drive 'legally' in Bali for insurance purposes. But cbf, I am just going to go there and learn + rent a scooter there since they don't even care if you have a legitimate international license.
Lets say you're an experienced rider holding driver/rider license from another country for many years. And you want to ride in Australia. Does this mean one has to stick the same process, start off with learner approved bikes only? That's a huge bummer if indeed is the case
Hi, im new to Australia, just wanna ask what happens if i buy a bike with NSW rego but i live in ACT? Do i have to get a new ACT rego or do i keep the NSW rego and wait till it expires to get a new ACT rego?
Great video that clearly and concisely explains the convoluted shit show that was cooked up in a room full of your local overweight and likely mentally challenged bureaucrats that see riding motorcycles as dangerous, therefore increased fatality rates, therefore less citizens to milk for tax. and of course they're making bank off of the licenses and harmless illegal modification infringements. Don't go a hundred days without riding your bike. take your plates off and figure it out on your own, in your own neighborhood like everyone everywhere else in the world does. Choose self sufficiency and freedom over restriction and safety in our picturesque little nanny state we call home. Just be smart about it.
Ridiculous. I guarantee you they're making it hard to get your motorcycle license on purpose. More people should be driving bikes, even lower power bikes. 200cc is probably more than enough power for most people living in surburbia. It would greatly alleviate traffic congestion. I've been living in Vietnam for the past year, got a license, been driving around on the underbone mopeds here and the feeling is so awesome!
Man I never realized how easy we have it here in the United States when it comes to getting your motorcycle license. Here in the US all you do is take a MSF class (Motorcycle Safety Foundation) which is normally done over a weekend. When you leave the class on Sunday you have you permit and can ride any size cc motorcycle. Of course you will have to go to your local dmv to get your endorsement place on your permit.
This was done due to all the inexperienced riders dying all the time. Australia used to be like USA... You are on your L's for a year and can ride pretty much anything then if you ain't dead you get your fulls. But this was stopped as there was too many deaths. This new system helps reduce deaths.
U should see how Singaporeans get their motorcycle license. We have a crank course, figure 8 course, hill start/stop, plank course, ride up to about 35/40kmh on wet road and do an emergency stop within a few meters. And for the above 200cc, u have to go through a bumpy course. Pretty much like a mini gymkhana.
And In Singapore the first category is up to 200cc (class 2b) pass for one year before you can attempt 201cc to 400cc, 2A pass for one year before you can attempt for more than 400cc 2 such a money grab
I am in Queensland, and I am thinking of enrolling in a Pre-learner course. After watching your video, I learned a lot😄. I have a few questions I would like to ask: 1. What are the requirements for enrolling in this Pre-learner course? For example, is there a minimum age requirement? Or do I need to have a car driver’s license first? 2. After successfully obtaining the Pre-learner license, am I allowed to ride on the road by myself? I have searched a lot of information, but the answers are inconsistent, and I couldn’t find a clear answer to my questions. I hope you can help, and I appreciate it very much!😃
Loved the video mate. Very informative. Only thing is I’m in QLD & don’t know anyone with their bike license. Do I have to go to Department of transport and pay someone to supervise me couple times a week for the 3 months or is there a way around this?
Good talk mate, really helpful. I also just got my leaner approval. Just one question: Due to the process I have to pass the check ride then license assessment to get the red P, and wait for another 1 yr to get the green one, finally another 2 yrs to the full license. But someone told me that if I got the full license for the car, and if I’m above 21 or so, then I can skip that 2 yrs for the green P and can get the full license just after 1 yr of red P? Is that true? I’m in VIC. Waiting for the answer. Many thanks.🙏
Glad it helped mate! I’m unsure on that one, I haven’t heard that but it’s possible. I’ve left a few links in the description, check the top one because that has a link to all the different states with even more in depth info. Might say there!
Getting started with getting my license in qld and bro you are a life saver, i knew the general steps but this video helped me out with little things i never knew. Seems a lot simpler when you listen to a good video instead of trying to find info on the internet. Thanks again ❤️❤️

(I am aware this video is 2years old. I am currently going for my R-E licence after holding my car licence for all but 5 years) In WA there seems to be a lot of differences to what is said here, mainly in regards too timing (for instance the Learners permit takes 6 months before moving too your Provisional licence). In WA it seems you MUST BE supervised during your learners period, so you cannot practice by yourself unfortunately.

Is my Turkish license canceled because I got a car license here? Do I need to complete a 2-day course to get a motor license in NSW? And lastly, I have a Yamaha r3 motorcycle. Hello, just a little question here, if im from another country and i have a license that says that i can ride 1000cc for ex, i can buy a motorbike in australia or i must do the process of having an australian license? PS: Sorry for bad english, im an argentinian planning to go there
I agree with your list as a first bike tier list. However things like the Grom or one of the 390s are great as second bikes in your stable. So much fun riding those things flat out everywhere 😂
So just to make sure if I don’t have anyone that has a bike am I suppose to get a person that has there full license on there car to follow me while I’m on my learners?
how hard would it be to go for the re as soon as it hits the 3month mark as I don't have anyone to ride with so wont really be able to practice in that time
hi thanks for video.l have 2 questions; 1) can we ride with oversease full licence in Australia without any test no limit. 2) l have learner nsw licence but have moved to qld.should l go to nsw and take course for upgrade?can l do this?
Only international students can drive with overseas licences. If you are resident before 3 month here in Australia, you must change for an Australian license. I haven't done this and now I have to do everything from "0" BTW I have ridden motorcycles for more than 10 years, sooo nice!
Any tips on how to find a licensed rider to ride along with me for those 3 months on the learners? I quite literally know no one within a 50km radius who rides a bike, and it's a pretty big ask to get old mate who I barely know to ride a 100km return trip every week just so I can putter around for an hour learning to ride on my local roads.

Thanks mate just bought a drz250, and wanting to get my liscence so I don't get molested financially by police when I ride trails this helps 👌
Far out I have got an European license to ride motorcycles all over world, but in Australia I believe is cheaper and easier just to drive a car.
I’ve got my green ps for a car and just got my learners permit for a motorcycle, I’m not sure if We’re allowed to solo ride on wa with a learners permit (in wa)

So of your over 25 in wa hold drivers licence over 10 years you have to do a test and were ls for 3 months then reaply for your re??????????
What happens if you fail the Qride to get your Learner's do you habe to pay all that money again?
This is Australia when u got birds making nose every 2 mins
So in Queensland do you have to be on your p plates for 1 year or just have your car p plates I am not sure
Lets say you're an experienced rider holding driver/rider license from another country for many years. And you want to ride in Australia. Does this mean one has to stick the same process, start off with learner approved bikes only? That's a huge bummer if indeed is the case
You have 3 month to change it for a Australian licence if not you have to start from 0. Ridiculous!
depends which Country.
So if I don't know anyone with an open licence is there a way of booking with instructors like with a car or am I stuffed for a bit.

finally a bike youtuber thats actually aussie, helpful stuff man!
Riding a motorcycle also makes you a safer driver as well, since you can see all the situations and hazards on the road from a riders prospective
Honestly it's more dangerous riding bikes in Aus than Asia. Cruising 80-100 seeing that fucking car turning in front that didnt see you

In which country you are tho? I just have some questions if u could answer. 😭
When I took my test here in England, it was on a 250cc.
After passing I could ride any size bike. 😁.
Alas, that's all changed now over here.
Yep, very different nowadays
So if you don’t have to log hours, could you technically just say you’ve been riding with somebody next to you, when you haven’t at all?
You could technically not ride at all during your L's and then go for your riding test. You'd probably fail.. but technically you could

Question, I’m in Victoria what happens when you don’t have anyone that rides or is able to follow behind you for that 3 months of your Learners
Do you just have to wait around for three months and hope for the best?
Here in Victoria we don’t have that requirement. We are required to wear high vis vests at all times. Phones are not allowed, even if mounted. No lane splitting or filtering.
We have it lucky, we can ride alone with some minor restrictions like no passengers, L plate, high viz vest, headlight on at all times etc
Can you just have someone in a car follow you?
Your beginner course sounds very much like ours here on California.
Great video, thanks!
If I have a L car license can I have a motorbike license?

i got an ad to back off of riding motorbikes but i will in the future
Hello, just a little question here, if im from another country and i have a license that says that i can ride 1000cc for ex, i can buy a motorbike in australia or i must do the process of having an australian license?
PS: Sorry for bad english, im an argentinian planning to go there
I agree with your list as a first bike tier list. However things like the Grom or one of the 390s are great as second bikes in your stable. So much fun riding those things flat out everywhere 😂
Awesome info for new riders. Thanks for sharing Jack!
So just to make sure if I don’t have anyone that has a bike am I suppose to get a person that has there full license on there car to follow me while I’m on my learners?
Too much information and steps to do in Australia whereas I used to drive my bike in my home country without licence 😅
What does the - mean where it says over 16 and that for wa im confused for that bit but everything else makes sense thank God I found the right vid
What if I have an overseas full driving licence ? Can I ride with that ? Or can I convert it to Australian driving licence ?
how hard would it be to go for the re as soon as it hits the 3month mark as I don't have anyone to ride with so wont really be able to practice in that time
I dont know anyone with their full motorcycle license, how can i ride with my Ls if i dont know anybody?
TMR should sponsor you bro hahaha their websites are so bland ! Great video mate 🤙🏻
and what if you dont know someone who rides motorcycles with full license or not at all if you have the L ?
You can't get a license in Australia. You can get a licence though😅
what if i literally know zero people that have a motorcycle license
What is the case for an international student getting their license in SA ?
You dont need a car license of any form for the nt to get a L license here.
Thanks mate, made it so easy for me to understand my next step
this was the best thing i could of found so far no i can finally start my license
super helpful man big thanks 🙌
What kinda questions do they ask on the RE course test?
Well that sounds lame af, thank god for UK
what if you dont know anyone with a open license ?
At what age can it be taken? For all engine cc?
Loved the bloopers at the end 😂
great video, thankyou
What motorcycle is that mate?
hi thanks for video.l have 2 questions; 1) can we ride with oversease full licence in Australia without any test no limit.
Did you ever find one?
Is it the same for Victoria or is there any difference?
I really want to get my motorbike Ls in Victoria
No, Victoria is different. You don't need anyone riding with you.
