  • GIMP is an excellent application on its own, but there are plugins. This video shows you where to place plugins you have found, how to make plugins on Linux, and where to find some plugins that may be useful for Windows, Mac, and Linux.

I like this video because it focuses on Linux. I believe Script-Fu and/or Python plugins don't need to be compiled and can be "installed" by putting the source file(s) in the right spot. Back in the day, I used to compile GIMP from source but I haven't done that in a very long time. Great video! Thanks for posting!

Make might look intimidating but in essence it is quite simple. The make-command is executed with a makefile in whatever directory you are in. That makefile is basically a script for compiling software, just a list of commands with some extra bells and whistles (for example to suppress showing the commands themselves). You can read the file and see what make will do. In essence it is a tool to make it easier to install software, the developer already did all of the work and the use simply uses the make-command. What does compiling software mean? It means that you translate the higher level language like c to simple instructions which the CPU understands.

After listening to the rant on how Plug-Ins are much more a hassle on Linux than they are on any other OS, I'm not sure if I would really enjoy switching to Linux 😂

definitely can be frustrating but so can other computers. there's usually not one thing that you should go by to make a decision, especially since we saw him make BIMP in 20 seconds, actually it's kinda fast to compile / make as comapred to installing on windows. maybe not faster but not much slower. BIMP and G'MIC are kind of the best plugins anyway and you're set to go.

      What are you talking about?
I have been using Linux since 2018...
Do you think I become happy when Adobe wins against Linux and opensource?
I support opensource, Because it can do better than Adobe and many others.
People like you and others do NOT really understand or care about the how the things function in real life...
When something does NOT make progress enough, it disappears.
Linux must make progress and become better than many others.
      My comment highlights this.
But people like you call it trolling.
Please come back to reality and stop these reactions.

@@SkyFly19853 All your comment does is bait people, it's a pathetic vague comment lacking in substance.
No normal person would randomly post "adobe beats Linux sad face emoji" on a Linux UA-cam video and want other people to consider that a sign of how much they want Linux to improve, this isn't a bug report, it's not even proper criticism, not to mention that even if it was this is not a place where such a comment would do any good.
So yes, you're either a troll or stupid.

Adobe Photoshop(s). lol. then use it. But the problem is now, you'll be paying for 'photoshops' every month for as long as you want to use the software. And when you're not in it that much it's not fun to keep forking out money for something like that. If you want to pay money for graphics software, donate the proceeds to the gimp team so it continues to be developed.
Also GIMP is more interesting to learn nowadays. Photoshop is basic bitch. GIMP is metal.

With the money you make from Adobe, it pays itself... with the money you make from Gimp or Inkscape, you keep relying on donations...
Btw, I wish you the best of the luck if you don't wanna benefit from professional apps... 😏
