When people say, "Well, you shouldn't put your work out there if you don't want people to use," I always reply, "So when you park your car on a public road, I can also drive it whenever I need transport?" I hope people pay attention when you say it. I've been saying these same things for 4 or 5 years on social media. As a creator books. graphics, and now video myself, I'm glad UA-cam is coming down hard on people who do these things. I used to see it with authors all the time. They would 'steal' other people's content to promote their books, but heaven forbid someone did it to their own books.
Yeah, the lack of knowledge on copyright protection is staggering. People think if it’s on Google or UA-cam (which is pretty much everything) they can use it in any way they like without worry. On Reddit I see so many people losing accounts over, “I just used the first 30 seconds of the song I don’t see what the big deal is.” It’s crazy.
I know LOL! It's amazing what people will tell themselves. I basically explain it in one sentence: If it doesn't belong to you, it doesn't belong to you, even if it fell out of a person's pocket and is lying on the pavement. It's still theft unless you hand it over to an authority for safekeeping.
I think it’s crazy that reaction videos are usually ok. All they are doing is putting their image barely over the original and just watching someone else’s content the whole time. It’s nuts.
The trouble is the fine line that exists. 'Recognised' news outlets pay for the use of the footage and when people see it, they assume it's fair use. Since people have been fighting in court using the 'fair use' as a rebuttal, everyone suddenly thinks that there is a law. As far as I know, there isn't. It's still open to interpretation that could see you end up in court. Fair use is really how far can you push your luck without getting into trouble, and it varies artist to artist, and how bad a day that artist is having *_that_* day! If you treat them with respect, they will often give you limited rights to use their stuff. I e-mailed Michael Franks and his co-writers to ask for permission to use two lines of an old song of his in a novel. I never thought I would actually get it, but I have the e-mail granting me use of those two lines. Even there, had I used other lines, I wouldn't have been covered.
On the subject of copyrighted music, are channels like no copyright sounds which give out music clips for free commercial use ok to use? They ask to be credited in the description that's it. Let me know please, since I use this.
Thanks for the tips i will be sure not to get a copyright strike anymore also thanks i thought the copy right music was allowed to play for five minutes thanks for taking time out of your day to help us out.
Wise to go back and check to make sure old videos are still complaint with current rules and guidelines. Appreciate the info because "ignorance is no excuse for the law". Great video Nick! Enjoyed
Thnaks alot, sir. This wil guide me to prove things that is 100% more offcial for the track of my own productive safty on my public community content and the channel activity. This suggest the futher option to keep away from the deadline copy srticks of forbidden penalties. In the case of attract the right sequence on planing to get many correct scores to from the possible audiance while do the best as it can to prove the rest in the solo/ partner/ group assication to keep the great things giong. It's usually about connect the right sequence and attract the right audiance in the enviorment of entertainment content not the wrong stuff.
Well there's a question that I don't know the answer to: If you get a community guidelines strike and you resolve the issue for which you received that strike, does that strike get removed (with, what I assume would be a fair amount of correction, effort and petitioning on the side of the creator)? Or is this one of those things that our parents always warned us about being on our "permanent record"?
Wow I didn’t know you can loose your Channel ! Great Infos and Iam so grateful that i discovered you cause with your Advices my Channel is growing so fast this is Crazy
You're a gold mine of info my brother! Never once even thought about using a disclaimer when promoting my affiliate links and now...well let's just say disclaimers in my vids are as crucial as my vid titles lol. Thanks man and keep busting us in the head with that fire knowledge and info!
Can u pls make a video on how to get rid of copyrightes or community guidelines which u mentioned in ur video. Great video , I LL make sure to follow ur tips
Hey Nick, I have a small dillema. I'm worried my channel name is too long amd not exactly catchy. I feel like changing it, but I've changed it before a few months ago. Currently, I am planning on a shorter name like "ItsIsaac" because it's not too specific and its much catchier or even just my real first name and last name. In your opinion, what is the best thing to do?
Hey Nick. Some great and insightful information here. I see your point but I also see creators using movie/TV clips and music to enhance their content. Some use a lot and others small portions. I'm from Canada and from what I understand our laws are different than in the US and seem to be a 70/30 deal. As long as the majority of your content is original it is within the guidelines of the user agreement. I was planning on using very small portions of TV /movie clips in my videos for mostly comedic effect.
Copyright law is mostly international and if people lose the ability to monetize it get a strike depends on exactly how they use it. As an example, in most cases a list of “x people you didn’t know have food allergies” would be ok as long as it was put together properly. It’s all about use and how the copyright holder wants to address it.
Hmmm something to consider for sure. Thanks for all your doing I really appreciate the work it must take to stay consistent like you do. I hope when I get going I can do the same. With life, kids and work it worries me that I might fail.😬
That was really confusing when you were talking about downloading thumbnails being banned or something. Could you explain that better in another video maybe?
im on youtube for 2 months and i started a chanel beacuse there was 1 guy named as nick nimin and you he helped my im suprised of you i happy with six subs i get 10 subs but im going lower beacuse idint watch your vids for a wile
Nick Nimmin thanks also Nick when Live Streaming are we allowed to show the TV? Example. If you do a sports channel if you do a live reaction to the game while it’s on can you show the live action on the TV while doing it
I got a community strike on a video that was 3 years old because of 2 seconds of music in it..had to wait 3 months get live access. Also it's legal to use adwords for video to buy views..in fact YT recommends it though it doesn't help organic growth. Curious why you didn't mention checking the content declaration box for paid content?
Sometimes we get so wrapped up in what we need to learn next, we slack on the things that we have covered, and should already be practicing. I thought this was an excellent lesson! We all need reminders and brush ups!
That’s a really grey area. If you want to play very safe, it’s a good idea. At the very least, you do need an affiliate disclosure in your description.
do I go through my old videos and change them all? not alot use backgrounds that I do not own but soem do/. also do ou think it is the same for in game items? like png's of items from te games such as guns?
Think I'm clean on all account except occasional links to tools i'm using, I'll need to learn what 'affiliate disclaimer' actually means first 😁 Thanks
Thanks for this. What about showing footage from video games? If that is copyrighted, how are the gamers even able to have a channel? If I use footage, do I have to put a credit? Thx #nicknimmin #vip

EternalSeito Yes free for commercial use is fine to use for commercial use. That’s why it’s called that. He did a video about this as well.
Thanks for the tips i will be sure not to get a copyright strike anymore also thanks i thought the copy right music was allowed to play for five minutes thanks for taking time out of your day to help us out.
Video is in 20 seconds I already press like!

As always this is extremely helpful content Nick, thank you!!
Thanks for watching Ronald!
I think I am 100% compliant. But based on what you have said I will look back through my older videos.

Is there a fast way to insert disclaimer links in all your videos instead of one by one?
Check out TubeBuddy!

If it gets resolved and corrected it gets completely removed.
Good to know! I shall plan my violations accordingly... I mean... um... I would never.
Sounds like that mole on my Aunt Ingrid's back. Good to know.
Great video Nick, I need to brush up on my trademark / copyright laws. Haven’t touched them since school. Keep up the great work!

Hey Nick I always wondered why does copyright matter so much on youtube?
Can u pls make a video on how to get rid of copyrightes or community guidelines which u mentioned in ur video. Great video , I LL make sure to follow ur tips
Very helpful thanks nick 👍
Your videos never fail to educate me, always learning something new !
I still see people who’s channels are growing exponentially better than me that tag spam in the description. Isn’t that still wrong too?
Hey Nick great vid always love your content

I had no clue that there were guidelines for giveaways 😮😮
Now you know. 👊🤓
nick our channel has only 3 videos (1st one is non meaningful) but still there are great views and watch time because of your advice
Great to hear!
Thanks Nick!
Thanks, Nick !
Thank you for the info, this helps me to know how I can follow these rules 😄👍
🤓✋
Thanks Nick. You didn't explain what to do if you already have videos where you did "give aways"...
If the giveaways are "past-tense", its probably best to unlist or private those videos.
Yo nick you know the Delete Google Account page?
Sir a doubt I have an interest if making UA-cam videos but I have this question that does age really matter ? Please help
Thank you
Thanks for the tips. Have a great day.

Just a quick question, do i have to show my Video as sponsored ones while providing affiliate links in them??
That’s a really grey area. If you want to play very safe, it’s a good idea. At the very least, you do need an affiliate disclosure in your description.
Ok, will put a disclaimer in the videos right away nd make them sponsored just to be extra sure.

If you check the site of the game creators they will usually have rules about using their games. Some makers are more strict than others.
Ok, thanks for the quick reply
Omg thx love this!
