Interestingly here in the UK one of the bigger suppliers of Dtf has just announced a sediment free white ink that may make the use of photo printers more viable ... Just bought a 8550 to give it a go see how successful it is (I have a big set up so this is purely for testing purposes ! )

Unfortunately Mimaki printers are just too expensive for a startup. Purpose built Chinese Printers for DTF had came a long way, besides that both Mimaki and Chinese purpose built printers use Epson print heads. By the way Epson just launched FC series where the printer supports both DTG and DTF prints, I haven't looked into the details of it yet but DTF and DTG are separate ink types, so am not sure how Epson is separating the two.
Converted printers are unreliable they are not even good for small scale startups, as the printheads will clog within 2 to 3 months, the color and print consistency will degrade substantially with 2 months if print head doesn't clog and worse of all the printing speeds are painfully slow for the likes of L1800, however speeds have increased in L18050 series that are meant to replace L1800 series.
All in all if one is not ready to spend serious money on Mimaki, Chinese built printers are a good option. We had terrible experience with Mimaki support for our ecosolvent printers, so based on that experience I wont recommend Mimaki for DTF or otherwise. We stopped using Mimakis as for us Chinese printers offer the best bang for the buck, and that is what we have.

You are welcome to your opinion. We've been doing DTF since 2020 and DTG before that and the Mimaki is a much more reliable printer. Yes the chinese manufactured machines are cheaper and some run great others are a complete nightmare, there is a ton of inconsistency that come from those manufacturers. That's why we moved to Mimaki and Roland. Better reliability.
