how will moving a pusher fan from front work correctly when installing behind radiator? it would need to be a puller fan! or its going to be fighting against natural airflow while driving down highway, will only work when stationary or driving very slowly!
This fan is from a manual trans car. its designed to fit behind the radiator. IMHO a much better solution and prob more effective, and much easier to work with when you need to get in there. This replaces the whole mech fan shroud. and will use the connector that the front fan plugged into. so the front fan is now discarded.
This fan will only turn on when your AC is on. It controlled by the PWM signal from the DME. what you need is a SPAL fan that's activated by the coolant temperature sensor and a 12V power source when the key is on
Hey, i come here to look for some help, i have an e46 330ci and i can't sit the expansion tank on the 2 bottom hose holes, i trien everything, silicone louber and all, anr still won't stay fixed, is a febi bilsten expansion tank. The old one sits perfect, so i don't know if im doing something wrong.
Thanks, Jason! ?: I took your advice and purchased the Astro LED light. Very nice!! I'm wondering if you keep the dial at full intensity when you're using it?? If so, how long does the battery last at full brightness in your experience. Ciao!
Can this be done to a 03 530i? My reservoir is on the opposite side and mounts on to the shroud also why are you getting rid of the ATF cooler is it defective or unnecessary?
The front electric pusher fan, is for what I understand, mainly for the AC. As you can see from this picture it's completely marked on to be there anyways in manual car too, even it's with electric fan. If you don't have this and you use AC and car is not moving, I think the pressure on the system might exceed the decired limits only, but usually you don't have the max amount of AC refrigerant fluid there anyway, but I would not delete it myself. www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=BD53-USA-07-2005-E46-BMW-330Ci&diagId=64_0920 The car is just as an example, took just some late E46. But nice video and I love these all manual swap videos, good job :) Very precise videos and great angles and clear. Also I love how you always show mistakes and happenings stuff too. It did save me with the E53 transfer with front shaft sealing, had also "great time" trying to get it right in rebuilt.
Manual E46 does not have a front pusher fan Just the electric at the back. They both use the same connector to power, so you cannot have both on. Removing is the right thing to do if you do this swap, as it will restrict otherwise. Have had an v. early 328 manual since new so have first hand exp, and never had any issues with AC. Having both Auto and manual e46's, the Electric fan is MUCH more convenient than the clutch fan and probably will put less stress on the water pump. Will also not explode like the mech fan is known to.
I need to change the radiator and the expansion tank, as well as the upper radiator hose. Upper and lower coolant hoses I’m changing to silicone hoses which has me wondering if it’s a good idea to switch to silicone O rings as well? If so do anyone have any sources or sizes I’d need?
Hey 50s kid ! Can you help me out? I have a rough idle and loss of power on my 2001 330i. I'm getting system too lean codes in bank 1, and misfire codes with fuel cut off on every cylinder ! So far I've diagnosed that my MAF sensor is working properly, I used fuel trims to determine I do not have a vacuum leak, all my 02 sensors are working correctly (used multimeter), replaced camshaft positioning sensor because I figured it was giving wrong information that would throw off the fuel injectors, but that didn't help. My next idea was checking the fuel system, I replaced the fuel pump about 1000 miles ago, as well as the fuel filter, and replaced the fuel injectors about 300 miles ago, is there something else in the fuel system that I missed? I believe whatever I missed, had to be the culprit. What do you think? I'm going to be checking my fuel pressure pretty soon.. do you have any ideas as to what the problem might be? 😭
Adam More oh I am having similar issues on my 330ci. Although I had fuel cut from 5 & 6 and figured it may be the coils. Changed them as well as replace the ccv system, throttle body and intake gaskets, new DISA, new vacuum lines, motor mounts, nearly complete coolant refresh with the exception of the radiator, headers cv axles and today transmission mounts. But I still have a fairly rough idle. I may try to replace the VANOS seals if not refresh it with a kit. Have you cleaned your IAC ?
does the issue start immediately or when the ECU goes into closed loop (1-2 minutes after starting the engine)? have you tried disconnecting the MAF sensor and running with it unplugged? does the issue persist?
Hi Thanks for the video, i have a question, my 320cd e46 doesn't have that fan, is it because my is a manual transmission? Is that usefull only for the atf cooler or also for the climatizzator? Thanks a lot

If it restricts it, how can it work on other BMW:s too.... For example E53. I mean, this is just talk, you can say what ever about airflow restrict, but if it does, many BMW cars would have been overheated as factory builds :p

Hey dude I love the videos huge fan. I have a question for you, I have a 2004 bmw 330ci 6spd Manual convertible. My clutch fan is very loud and I would like to do a delete. I read everywhere online that a manual e46 shouldn’t have a clutch fan? Well mine does, also I have the fan in front of the rad I assume is for air conditioning, that fan never sound regardless if Ac is switched on or not. The air comes out the vents when I turn Ac on but the air does not get cold. What is my issue, how can I resolve it, and can I delete both fans (Ac fan, and clutch fan) to do a swap with an electric fan?
You can do a swap as I did in this video, yes. If your manual fan is loud, it has failed and is stuck in the "on" mode (normally it just freewheels but doesn't spin at the same rate as the engine unless it gets really hot). If it goes too fast, the plastic fan blades can explode and take out your radiator. It's happened to me.
50sKid okay, thank you for your reply. Also my air conditioning doesn’t run cold. I’m trying to diagnose my issue so I can resolve it. If the ac fan never runs regardless if ac is set on or off, does that suggest my fan could be the issue?
@@Sitdownbruhh If your AC system is low on gas the AC compressor won't actually turn on. You can press the AC button and think it's running but it may not be. So the front fan won't run either. Possible reason.
Hey, I have a 03 330xi and i'm attempting to do this swap. However, the fan I bought doesn't have the connection for the "air sensor" you mention @ 23:57 . Can I let this just hang? It doens't seem to be throwing any codes..? I got this fan: www.amazon.com/TOPAZ-17117561757-Radiator-Cooling-Assembly/dp/B06WGR7QG2 THANKS
hello jason. considering I would retain the auto trans and therefore the auto cooler and radiator mounts, instead of just by chance encountering a manual e 46 at the junkyard, would you know whether there is an oem or aftermarket electric fan available to replace the stock clutched puller and the secondary fan? I intend to model a replacement on your tutorial. andrew
Yeah the manual E46's have the electric fans that fit in where the manual fan fits in on an auto. You can just grab one--I grabbed an extra one myself for a friend of mine. They were about $40.
if I understand correctly, you remove the clutched fan, remove the aux fan assembly and the front of the radiator and replace with the "manual sourced electric fan" and plug it into the existing plug where the previous auto fan was located. and job done? I suppose the fan shroud then becomes redundant and can be left off the vehicle.
@@andreiput9492 You have prob worked this out by now as its 4 years ago - but the mechanical fan shroud is discarded along with the clutch fan - Manual fan comes with a shroud built in the just drops in.

Green is better then blue bmw just wants to damage your motor that way they stay in business. Such as the method of lifetime tranny oil is bs too. Dont go with what you hear & see
Please help! I’m about to buy an electric fan from someone to replace my fan clutch fan but I’m not positive if it’s the correct fan and neither is the seller. I don’t want to accidentally buy an auxiliary fan. These were the numbers on the fan “Bosch 1137328080/6922670.1” is this the fan I need to convert my mechanical fan to electric?
I've replaced the water pump, coolant sensor, Temp sensor, and thermostat and it's still overheating. Could it be my Aux fan relay or the Aux fan itself or both?
@@digitaloski8702 Yes. First of all if you install electric fan you need to remove the auxiliary fan by dropping the bumper in the front so that you improve airflow and natural cooling to your radiator. Number two I had a small leak in the plastic overflow reservoir that is notorious for leaking I replaced it with a stainless Mishi Moto reservoir which should end that problem from ever occurring again. Third and probably the most important, you have to make sure you get all the air bubbles out of the coolant system and it is topped off properly by continuing to vent through the breather hole. To do this You should turn on your heat full blast while the ignition is in acc position and then jack the car up in the front so it is tilting back towards the engine slightly Jack car up about two or 3 inches then top off the bleeder several times. Probably best if you add coolant under vacuum but I did not have that set up and found the UA-cam video on properly topping off your coolant system which helped. She is maintaining good temp since then no leaks.

So I kept changing fans and radiators but the fan still breaks into pieces at high revs. I tried changing engine mounts and still to no avail. Should I just swap that radiator fan to an electrical one? Should I change the water pump? Can anyone pls help me out as I spent over $1000 on radiators and radiator fans.
Yes. Replace with electronic fan.
thanks. i replaced the radiator fan with a Hella electric fan. AC fan is still there didnt touch that one. Car is not shaking anymore when at stop light in Drive. Car runs smoother, so far no issues with the fan.
Hi what fan did you use? I converted a 320ci 2.2 to a manual. And would like to do an electric fan conversion.
@@Uranus707 Hi the electric fan was 119 GBP ( British pounds) and the brand name its HELLA . done the fan conversion end of Feb...so far so good no issues.
@@Uranus707Best source is a wrecked E46. Any manual trans model 4 or 6 cyl will fit. I picked one up today from my local wrecker yard for $25.
To anyone who onws a e46 i would strongly recommend you changing the fan clutch to a electric fan those fan clutch are ticking time bombs they can slice open your radiator hose buying a electric fan might be a bit pricey but its worth it than having to replace everything that broke around your m54

Hi, I am new to BMW with a 2002 325i. It is missing many clips and bolts etc. I have been watching your videos in the hope of seeing the correct fasteners to use.Unfortunately, you skip over removing the air duct and fan shroud. Could you please somehow show us what fasteners are used or suggest a place to purchase same that will give me the corrects items. Thanks. PS. Managed to replace the expansion tank support bracket thanks to your videos.
Hi 50Skids i love your videos so much . im working on a e46 2002 325i my manual fan kisks on at cold start and stays on which should start when engine is hot right and stop after cooling the engine mine doesn't do it like that any help please ?
does the a/c not affected when the pusher fan is removed?
No, the new fan should have enough power to keep Ac working.
how will moving a pusher fan from front work correctly when installing behind radiator? it would need to be a puller fan! or its going to be fighting against natural airflow while driving down highway, will only work when stationary or driving very slowly!
Is the auxiliary fan a pusher or puller?
@@Stefan_Smith pusher
Watch the video again. The two fans are completely different
This fan is from a manual trans car. its designed to fit behind the radiator. IMHO a much better solution and prob more effective, and much easier to work with when you need to get in there. This replaces the whole mech fan shroud. and will use the connector that the front fan plugged into. so the front fan is now discarded.
Good tech n good video.
Thank you !
I've done this delete and my fan doesn't come on any info on this issue
This fan will only turn on when your AC is on. It controlled by the PWM signal from the DME. what you need is a SPAL fan that's activated by the coolant temperature sensor and a 12V power source when the key is on
No, it should run off temp and AC.
Where did you get the electric fan
Thanks, Jason!
?: I took your advice and purchased the Astro LED light. Very nice!! I'm wondering if you keep the dial at full intensity when you're using it??
If so, how long does the battery last at full brightness in your experience.
Ciao!
I frickin' love that thing. Usually lasts 3-4 hours I think. Never really noticed.
I also have the green fluid in my e46 , bought it that way . But people keep telling me it should be blue. Does it matter
My 328 with electric will not turn off even with no keys in it ?? Eny ideas
Your fan module (is on the fan shroud near the motor )or relay has a problem
Im not putting the blu $tuff until Im sure it Doesnt leak!!!
So just curious you probably can't do this with the e39 can you?
Can this be done to a 03 530i? My reservoir is on the opposite side and mounts on to the shroud also why are you getting rid of the ATF cooler is it defective or unnecessary?
Never mind manual swap got it but I'm still interested in installing electric fan
CVV hosese and separator...
What codes are you getting? if any.
does the issue start immediately or when the ECU goes into closed loop (1-2 minutes after starting the engine)?
have you tried disconnecting the MAF sensor and running with it unplugged? does the issue persist?
Ciprian Stoian The CCV and oil separator are good, no leaks.
I see that pressure tester is affordable, how's it been holding up?
+The mech a nic it's really good man. Works every time
what part number of the electric fan?
Hey, do that electric fan turn on when up to high coolant temperature and constantly when the A/C in turned on??
Yes to both
Hi Thanks for the video, i have a question, my 320cd e46 doesn't have that fan, is it because my is a manual transmission? Is that usefull only for the atf cooler or also for the climatizzator? Thanks a lot
Eould this work with the E53 X5 3.0i
Where did you get the electric fan in this video? I have a 2001 330 CI having trouble finding a good ran a fan. Thank you.Vince
Could you not use the front fan for your read fan
The shrouds are different but the motors are the same
No, its less powerful. U need to use the correct fan
are the expansion tanks different for manual and auto trans?
the expansion tank is for the car's coolant system and no coolant goes to the manual transmission, so... no?
Same expansion tank
Well it is a BMW there are no stupid questions for BMW lol
what if the air conditioning is not on ? will the fan turn on ??
yes, when the engine needs to lower the temperature of the coolant
thank you!
I have 2003 bmw 330i should I look for any electrical fan from any manual model ?
+79Pavlito yes
Thank you
And the 4 cyl models as well as the 6s have the same fan.
@@50sKid Hi, first.....thank you very much for your channel, there are many others and no offence to anyone, but yours just IS the best.
2nd, i have a manual '99 328i pre-facelift E46 and mine has only the viscus and the fan in front of the radiator. I read some of the comments which say that y
the fan you used was off of a manual E46......does that mean that i take the one in front of the radiator and move it to the back to delete the viscus or is there another fan.....sorry, just want to be petfectly sure before i mess up.
3rd, where have you gone? I am not seeing any new video's...
Believe it or not, i enjoy watching even the videos that has no bearing on me 'cause i find it entertaing...your method if delivery......so i'm quite sad to see that i have gone through almost all and no more are coming. Anything we as fans can do to help keep the channel alive????
Anywhoo, hope you see this and that everything is still well with you. Your channel might seem like a small thing, but you have made a big difference in many people's lives.
Use a kiddie pool, next time you deal with the coolant, dude
first comment.. nice job..
What about when you drive without a/c , is the fan works automatically? Or do I need to do some kind of retrofitting to the DME , I am going to do the same swap on my E46. Thanks for all the info.
The plug for the aux fan will plug in the new fan. No need to wire anything. It will work the same.
i swapped a manual fan onto mine and its not turning on? brand new fan and brand new fan switch sensor in the lower radiator hose
anyone have any ideas ?
Can you give me a link for a electric fan that isn’t too expensive but is still a decent brand? Also love the vids they help so much man thank you 🙏🏽🙏🏽
Most of the people get them from junkyards or eBay, OE brand is BEHR
Can I use both fans?
No, if you leave the aux fan in, it will restrict airflow to the radiator and electric fan.
If it restricts it, how can it work on other BMW:s too.... For example E53. I mean, this is just talk, you can say what ever about airflow restrict, but if it does, many BMW cars would have been overheated as factory builds :p
The thing is your using the same plug, there's no way to power both fans unless you do a whole lot of work.
@@Yophillips3272 Aaa ok! That's the stuff. Yea then this is kinda totally different, and should then use really one fan only. I was in blackout, I have never had E46 of BMW's models.
Blue coolant dosent have a chemical in it that eats the rubber and plastic
Hey whats your 9 to 5 i always wondered

May I asked what the purpose of this swap? What’s the difference between the fan being in front of the radiation and behind it?
the clutch fan can grenade and take out other things in the cooling system. It also makes working on the accessory system easier.
Probably adds a couple HP too.
Did he use the from side fan as his primary fan? Where did he get that fan that he installed from??
He got it from a manual petrol e46
Where is this electric fan from
How will the fan block air flow by leaving it there?
I watched a video where the guy left the front fan as a “back up” are we certain that it will restrict airflow if it’s left in?
Testing at 15psi? Bmw uses a 29psi cap
BMW also told me after a check i had done by them right after i bought the car that the 10k car i bought needed 290k's worth of repairs 😲
I'd rather stick to the advise that the 50's Kid gives than what BMW says 'cause the 290k bill they wanted to stick me with turned out to be around 5k in the end and my baby is still going strong 💪
Why did you delete trans cooler ?
He's swapping the auto trans to a manual gearbox so the trans cooler is no longer applicable.
dude... u r the fucking BEST !!
Oops nevermind, the fan comes without the smell sensor so I just unhooked the one from my original and good to go!
hello jason.
considering I would retain the auto trans and therefore the auto cooler and radiator mounts, instead of just by chance encountering a manual e 46 at the junkyard, would you know whether there is an oem or aftermarket electric fan available to replace the stock clutched puller and the secondary fan?
I intend to model a replacement on your tutorial.
andrew
Yeah the manual E46's have the electric fans that fit in where the manual fan fits in on an auto. You can just grab one--I grabbed an extra one myself for a friend of mine. They were about $40.
if I understand correctly, you remove the clutched fan, remove the aux fan assembly and the front of the radiator and replace with the "manual sourced electric fan" and plug it into the existing plug where the previous auto fan was located.
and job done?
I suppose the fan shroud then becomes redundant and can be left off the vehicle.
@@andreiput9492 You have prob worked this out by now as its 4 years ago - but the mechanical fan shroud is discarded along with the clutch fan - Manual fan comes with a shroud built in the just drops in.
hi !!! you are the fuking boss !!
wrong cooling liquid :)
Holy shit! You are running green antifreeze in your car. I thought you had a clue what you were doing on BMW's? Thanks for some of your other videos but I can't put any trust in what you got going on running the wrong antifreeze when BMW reliability is most susceptible to failure from the cooling system.
I have used green on BMW's 16y now. No problems on that area and I hear of this blue only now and it made me bit laugh :) I will keep the green one and recommend it also.
Can I use the aux fan instead of buying an e fan?
I've replaced the water pump, coolant sensor, Temp sensor, and thermostat and it's still overheating. Could it be my Aux fan relay or the Aux fan itself or both?
Same problem here. I’m looking for answers
@@paulnastoff2394 did you figure out what your issue was? Am finding myself in a similar predicament
So if your AC isn’t on your electric fan not gonna turn on ? What if I want that fan on 24/7 with or without ac on
