It’s a real pleasure to watch these videos. It’s not only the marvellous artwork but the way the models story is told as well. I think looking and listening to each of these outstanding videos is pure Zen meditation. What kind of Zen it must be, to build them! Thank you!
fascinated with ship builders... I struggle painting my warhammer minis :3 but model shipmakers are of another era. Crazy what they can accomplish without a box or a kit :) Would love to see more videos like these!
I'd really like to see him actually working on a model. I suppose his book explains some of the methods but is there anything more to it than in C Nepean Longrige's "Anatomy of Nelson's ships" I wonder? I expect so since he works at 16 foot to the inch and Longrige's Victory ( in the Science Museum) is to a much larger scale.
It's Jelutong, an Asian tree that has a nice straight grain. a hardwood similar to Balsa but a much denser texture. Very nice to carve which makes it great for model wook. I used to use it in pattern work and mold making. Too soft for furniture work but lovely to shape and carve. The small tight grain makes it super for mold work because the surface texture is too tight to leave an imprint on the mold.
Thank you for presenting Mr. Reed. I have his books, and these videos make them come to life!!👍👍
Wow, now this guy has knowledge we need on youtube. If only he had a channel and the time!
I watch this if I need to relax just deeply !
Speechless, in admiration.
I have never seen such exquisite work before. I just keep thinking I want one! No I need one!
I really enjoy your video's on Philip Reed. He is a true artist and a master of like as a hobbyist.
Absolutely beautiful model and work. If only!!!!
