This is what makes Jimi one of the greatest R&B electric guitarists of all time. He completely made up this jam. You won't find another performance like it in his entire history of live performances. It is unique. And it was made up on the spot at this concert. Good luck finding another R&B electric guitarist who could make up an exciting jam of this caliber and perform it LIVE and UNREHEARSED.
I have always felt that improvised, up-tempo jams best capture Hendrix's unique talents. His rhythm playing, with all his embellishments and the funk that drips from it, his uncanny ability to generate killer riffs from seemingly nowhere, all with totally original and melodic lead lines mixed in. I put Earth vs Space in this category, along with the extended Astro Man Jam.
does anyone have any videos of the things going on in the crowd. I was high as the sky and I was climbing through the crowd and the big cables wires on the towers and people were helping me to get out (they had pretty freaked out faces) I was standing right at the wall of the stage and Jim looked right at me then I was off..in another world..lost my purse keys to the car etc etc..had to call parents to bring me keys..oh I did find the friend I was with though. anyone anywhere have any footage..it was getting onto evening
There are other videos on UA-cam with the crowd, but I heard the main set of film that they recorded from the towers(which essentially had the entire performance) got lost to history. The film was processed and all that but then it disappeared (almost makes ya wonder) except for the ones taken from the ground Absolutely the most disappointing thing I've ever had to accept :(
+Blake Howard - Bob Arthur is a great guy and he owns a pool building business in the Dallas area. He built my pool and he never mentioned playing with Jimi! Very modest man!
If Jimi had lived longer, music would not have gone off track. Like I hear my train coming and then the train as it's going of track, Jimi jumps off leaving music to............
Art students, this music will take you away from that set-square sence of design. Don't go backwards into geometry on the canvas. Jimi will keep you evolving and look at Frank Gehery. 😎🤓🎸

@@gavinmowat8528 Thanks for your comment, but I was just thinking of a talk Eddie Kramer gave about Jimi, where he described the two of them mixing the Band of Gypsys album. Both of them he said were groaning at some of Buddy’s vocals. He said Jimi was quite blunt, as in: ‘Buddy, Shut the f*** up’. Powerhouse drummer tho’.
Towards the end of his life Jimi was running out of musical ideas , this is one of them , the original Experience should never have broken up . He didn’t know what great success it was until it was gone . Jimi, Noel , Mitch . The other members ( Band Of Gypsy’s ) didn’t contribute anything to Jimi’s Music .
He wasn't running out of ideas he was exploring different musical forms he said himself that he was tired of the 3 piece format he wanted to form a big band with horns and symphonic things. If you keep doing the same things over and over again you tend to stagnate. The greedy recording industry and his crooked ass manager worked him for the money which is all they cared about bastards.
Trevor G Welch Have you not heard Berkeley? Straight Ahead Hey Baby Machine Gun Freedom Message To Love Earth Blues Room Full Of Mirrors to name a few. He loved jamming and free forming so gigs like this were just that.

What the F are you talking about?? Wash your mouth out with soap! This jam is totally ADLIB. It's spontaneous and Jimi is making up the entire jam as it goes along. His playing is superb, his control of the wah is exceptional, he's just cruising at 100 miles an hour. Few guitarist of that period and this period could have composed this jam on the fly!

Hendrix The Most Influential Guitar Player Of All Times.🎸💜
If you ask me this is the best music I've ever heard
Music from a greater power
my strumming hand is tired just listening to this! insane!
Jimi was the killer rhythm guitarist of all time then went on from there (sing, play lead, perform, improvise). This is nice stuff.
This is the best playing in guitar history
This is totally amazing stuff. I've heard Hendrix jam before but this is off the wall.🎉🎉🎉🎉
Anybody in these comments hating on Buddy Miles is BIG trippin
They're just mad cause they didn't get to play with Jimi 😆
NOW THIS IS ELECTRIC CHURCH!!! YESSSSS!!!!!
Best performance ever

El mejor guitarrista hasta ahora!!!
They called this newport but it was devonshire downs in Northridge ca.
WOW. Hendrix with horns? And Bob Arthur on bass. I never heard of this bass player before. Thanks for the share.
there's plenty of Jimi with horns, some ain't no good though

wanker say jimi wanted a big band. he did this shit before they started saying that out of date crap.
Best recording I've ever heard
Pretty tight jam here
Yeah....superb
I was there helping Green Power feed the freex
Physics math Star like Einstein meets Jules Verne, Sifi music, that's Jimi a bit extra terrestrial and we get it.
I think Mitch was an overall better drummer but Buddy was tighter more in the pocket
Robert Hereford 2 different styles.
jazz vs fat back funk blues
Buddy was a highschool drummer at best. Mitch was far and above a more jazzy and sophisticated percussionist.
Buddy got carried away at times with the scat to the point of annoyance. Showboat stuff but I love his contribution nonetheless
@@davidarchibald3755 Same, but I just absolutely love this trio, wish they did more tbh

From the description it looks like the sax player from Janis's band sat in . Other parts of the show feature Eric Burden .

Thank you very much !
Wow Buddy is on fire! for once his drumming sounds amazing.
Awesome! This was the Newport Jazz Festival!?
No. Newport Pop Festival
Buddy Miles.
groovie ;D
Who won, Earth or Space?
EL ESPACIO
Haha, funny :)
el espacio y el tiempo JIMI HENDRIX el maestro.
the right is universal they made love in the end and made humanity which then went to war its a never ending cycle a spiral a toroidal field the battery that recharges itself continuously
If Buddy was Earth and Jimi was Space, I'd say Space won. They were already at loggerheads.
Don’t think Buddy Miles did himself any great favours with his scat singing. Jimi didn’t need a back up singer.
All this is why Jimi just jam's anything and all well beyond every one else. 🐄✌🎸🎶
disagree, Buddy Miles added some good vocals to Jimi's playing and could let him focus on his guitar.

Buddy singlehandedly ruined that album for me.
