Than you so much for sharing your thoughts and your journey! Your voice is so soothing and encouraging. Thank you from the bottom of my heart for just being YOU! ❤
I’m still here!😂 I LOVE your loose style and your ability to really appreciate watercolors for what they are and play with them so they can do what they want!🙏🏽
This Scottish spread is so beautiful, and reminds me of my brief days on holiday in Scotland. Of course I want to return to see the ‘heeland coos’ agsin, and so much more I didn’t have time for ❤. Your drawings and watercolour are wonderful to watch- thanks Fiona 😊
If I skip going for more than a couple of years, I literally start feeling the pull. As a child I made the promise I would always go back and I kept it. I think I would feel the same way about Italy ( my other homeland) if I lived in Scotland rather than here. Thank you 🏴❤️
This is so inspiring to me. After loosing my husband last year I dove into sketching and my art more regularly. I was surprised that in just letting go and painting/drawing for the sake of creating I was getting better. I want to tank your challenge to try and paint in my sketch books more.
Oh, I’m so sorry to hear that, but so happy that painting is such a great outlet. Please do take the challenge. I’d love to hear/see how it goes. Fiona x
Love the Highland hairy coos and Scotland! I spent a week there with my husband traveling around and fell in love. I’m from the US with Irish/Scottish, English and German ancestry. I’m going to have to dig out photos from my time there and paint with watercolors and gouache. I’ve got three sketchbooks and art journal going and I agree with all you said here. Nice to meet you. Love your style.
First time here and I am very happy to have seen this video! Beautiful highland cow! They are special aren’t they? In May I picked up my paint brushes and began to paint my way back to myself. It’s been nine years since I’ve been able to paint. I started painting in old journals and with the exception of two days I have painted something every day. It feels different this time, like I’m more in-tune with the process, not worrying about the end result. I’m happy to have found your.lovely work and I believe I can learn from you. Blessings ❤
Really wish I could purchase a sketchbook like the one you have. Here in Canada there are limited sketchbooks even with Amazon. Anyhow, I love your style and would love to be as good as you are. Very inspiring to hear and see your videos.❤❤❤❤
I just stumbled onto your channel this morning, loved the cow. I am trying to find my style and appreciate your advice. I have been trying to paint in a sketch book more often. Also, using my own photos and surroundings. Thank you for sharing your experience.
What a lovely way to celebrate your Scotland 🏴heritage fantastic! -I recently purchased a sketchbook in which I thought it would be wonderful quality and paid quite a penny for it, handmade, etc. but the paper quality was not to the standard, and it was advertised as arches paper cold press, but the GSM was not thick enough. So I have yet to start my sketchbook journey, that you have inspired me to do. And thank you for the free video that you sent me a Email about. Your Sincerely Ohn ❤️🤍💙
What a drag about the sketchbook! I doubt it was Arches paper. It’s usually excellent, but papers that are 100% cotton CAN at times still not be very good if they don’t have proper sizing on them ( that’s like a layer that covers the surface of watercolour paper). I hope this helps ❤️
I love your Highland cow! It's beautiful! (Although I kept waiting for you to say "heeland coo," but maybe that is just for tourists. ) I have a really difficult time getting myself to paint in a sketchbook. I have started and stopped one many times; sometimes I feel the sketchbook is too lovely to mess up! Your experience certainly makes the benefits of a sketchbook very enticing! I am promising myself to try again.
I was EXACTLY the same, Jan. I didn’t want to ruin it. That challenge I set myself in spring, really was a game changer. I was keen to post a sketchbook tour and I just kept going. And it just became more “comfortable” to paint in a sketchbook. Also, since I have been travelling quite a bit this summoner, there was no way I was going to bring loose sheets or heavy blocks of paper
What a cute Highland cow!🐮 I loved it! Btw, no need to worry about bleed through in these Etchr sketchbooks, I’ve thrown everything imaginable at them: acrylics, inks, watercolours, gouache, coloured pencils, pastel, you name it! They hold up very well to rough treatment and I paint on all pages.
this sketchbook is looking fantastic! lovely video Fiona. i feel like i have lost my painting/drawing mojo/motivation, but your videos always give me a flicker of inspiration.
@@drawingsinadrawer perhaps perhaps, then i encounter the "what sketchbook overwhelm, should i make? should i buy? should i just dig out an empty one that has never resonated with me?" lol
If it’s just for drawing, any sketchbook will do. If it’s for watercolour, a sketchbook that’s not 100% cotton and conceived for watercolour might work against you . I hope this helps x
❣You have one of the most original styles already, I am absolutely mesmerized by your work every time! And the Highland cattle is magical ! I just did all the work in your previous video about how to draw better Faster, with some progress for myself. Still working on completing the sketchbook, making nice progress. Thank you. I have been ill a long time and this is my affirmation as I progress into better health and happiness.
I love that your drawings are not intensely detailed. I love it. What are you looking at when you choose to put an image on the paper with your pencil? The outline? A prominent shape within?
@@drawingsinadrawer Thank you for your reply! I was just talking about your videos with my daughter (who is also an artist in her own rite). I told her her that I hoped you might answer my question here. You made my day 💕

Miss Fiona, how many pages does one have in it? I have never had a sketchbook. It would be new to me. I guess I’ve always done everything big. I have never had a problem sketching on arches watercolor paper actually I do my portraits on hot pressed arches watercolor paper and it works so well. arches paper for drawing was terrible. It would rip up the paper because I do a lot of erasing at times just depending on what I’m drawing but the arches watercolor paper hot pressed is perfect for when I do portraits! I can’t help but look at other peoples artwork it pushes me to try to do better but I have to be careful. My brain doesn’t overload well. Everybody else does compared to my artwork.
Don’t be hard on yourself. I personally find Arches hot pressed the most difficult paper to use watercolour. It takes the pencil very well, though, as it’s so smooth!
@@drawingsinadrawer oh I don’t use it for watercolor Fiona, just drawing charcoal and pencil, and colored pencils it’s perfect for that! Oh yeah, it’s good for pan pastels as well.I’m not that brave girl. I’ve used it for watercolor,It sucks. The paper that archer puts out for drawing is terrible it rips up too easy of course I don’t think it’s made out of cotton. I’m not sure I could check it because I’ve got a whole thing in there that I’ve never used but a couple times.
