Great video Ash. I found my Explorer to be a bit of a collection killer. It’s so comfortable and fits in, in every scenario. Not surprised to hear your GMT has taken a back seat.
What most people don't like about modern ROLEX is the rehaut inscribed with ROLEX ROLEX ROLEX ... "vintage" are more classy as all pre-2006 Rolex watch still didn't have that! De Gustibus Non Est Disputandum ...
Most of the time I wear my 114270 Explorer. Got it quite young, back in 2009, a present from mother. As a Catholic priest, I find it discrete and fitting, and it matches my cassock (which I wear literally all day, everyday) perfectly. I have some other watches, like my grandpa’s 1601 Datejust and a couple of other Rolexes, but I find myself almost always wearing the Explorer, both for all the reasons you also like yours, but also for the sentimental value and for the discretion. God bless!
Mine arrived within three weeks after I put down my order. Love it so much. Two months later, my no-date Sub finally arrived after two-years waiting. So, now this watch is residing on my Dad's wrist.
Great review Ash. I've been wearing mine daily for an entire year now and I'm just as chuffed with it as I was when I first picked it up. This really is a do it all watch and mines banged up with scratches from countless mountaineering trips. If anyone is considering getting one just do it. T-shirt, suit or in your outdoor gear. This little thing will see it all through.
I wear a 1016 daily and the Acrylic crystal gives me comfort regardless of what i am doing...just curious is the thought of banging the sapphire against a rock always in the back of your mind?
I am seriously considering an Explorer 36 and am grateful for your video. I am mentally struggling between a GMT and possible a Datejust but my heart just keeps wanting to look at the Explorer, so the fact that you addressed the fanfare with the trendier watches and how they ultimately sit in the safe is magnificent news to me in a sense. Thank you!
Great video Ash. I find these long term update videos to be better than the initial reviews! Would be interesting to continue to revisit the models as time goes on, 2-5 year reflections on ownership, etc. Regarding the explorer, you said it - supremely versatile. Under the radar, capable and charming.
Excellent summary. I've had a similar experience. Bought a 16570 polar Explorer 2 and then 2 weeks later my AD called with the 124270 after only 2 months of waiting. I almost always wear the Explorer as a daily. The Explorer 2 goes on my other wrist when I'm at home....a little odd but at least it gets worn!
I tried on the 36mm and 39mm Explorer at a pre-owned dealer this week. My wrist is 6.75" and the 36mm feels significantly smaller. Its under the radar and versatile and suitable for the man at easy with himself. If you shop around and negotiate the 39mm can be got for mid 6k. If you dont you will be paying into the 7ks
Oh how I remember the day I was able to acquire the 126710BLRO. My honeymoon phase as you call it lasted all summer when the pandemic was going on in 2020, I could not get enough of it. This was my 4th Rolex from my AD after a 3 year wait, well worth it.
I sold the 1978 GMT 1 which i'd had since my 18th birthday back in 1981 & bought a flawless 114270 with all paperwork, boxes etc for under £5k from a watch dealer in the UK. I had worn the GMT less & less over the last 10 years. When i got mine it was £350 & i wore it everywhere as a tool watch when few people knew what a Rolex was. The change of visibility of Rolex & their move towards bigger & more blingy models. Eventually other makers made similar looking models. I wore a vintage 34mm Junghans & CWC G10 lately. I have a 20cm wrist. This 36mm watch looks fine on my wrist. I appreciate the simplicity ( i love the 1016 but beyond my reach) & discretion of the watch. The versatility too : jeans & t-shirt, collar shirt & chinos or a suit, it looks fine. Loved this review / comparison. But never buy a watch as an investment & have few watches in your collection.
A good lesson there sir. I have recently lost interest in Rolex and rarely wear mine now. I find the brand has become over-exposed and has suffered in reputation. I'm eyeing up CWC as my next potential watch purchase (or possibly Oris)
Excellent review, Ash. I've owned my 124270 for 5 months now. It is one of those rare watches that is sporty, yet elegant. Simple, yet refined. Light on the wrist, yet robust. So easy to wear all day and night. Suitable for any occasion. And unlike other Rolex models, it flies under the radar. As time passes, I enjoy wearing it even more. 36mm Rolex cases are perfect for my 6.75" wrist. Cheers!
Hi Ash! The new Explorer fits your wrist very well! I’m remembering your start in hunting it down nearly two years ago. And you were lucky to get it within half a year. I tried the new 36 several times now. And I have to be honest to myself - it is a bit too small for my taste. I’ve got a 7.28” inch wrist. And the fact it is actually only a 35mm watch makes it difficulty for me. I’ve got no issues with a Datejust 36 or the Black Bay 36. In 2016 I had the opportunity to pick a 39mm Explorer or the OP with the rhodium dial. I took the OP because I considered it to be the more interesting looking and versatile watch. Maybe it was a fault but maybe not. The OP is still in my collection and I wear it quite often. Regarding my personal taste, I would purchase the new black OP 41 or maybe 36 instead of an Explorer. I’m not a big fan of the Mercedes hand therefore I like the hands of the OP. And I think, the new OP watches have got the same clasp as the Explorer. So, the only downside of my older OP has been solved. Best regards, Claus
Ash- thank you for participating us in your journey -maybe I have also to pull the trigger on the Ex, got the ExII and love it since I could afford it. Get going 🚀
I appreciate the inclusiveness of your review concerning sizing of watches to the size of one's wrist. The Explorer 36's size was a show-stopper for me and my 7.78 inch (200mm) wrist; Now that the Explorer 40 is in production, I can no longer complain about Rolex leaving me out... The way that Rolex pays attention to wearability, with the sculpted inside (or wrist-side) of their watches and bracelets, I think, sets them apart. I was noticing on a wearing test that the folding clasp was contoured and smooth, with not an edge to be found. Just poking a finger around from the other hand finds the inside smooth and amenable to comfort.
I have also had mine for a year and the biggest problem I have found is that I now hardly wear any of my other pieces. When I do wear something else I find myself missing the Explorer. Far and away my most comfortable watch. It is as "stealth wealth" as a Rolex could ever be and that suits me fine.
I wear my Exp 1 about 95% of the time. As the other poster said it is a collection killer. Very true. The thinness, lightness, low profile nature works in all situations. I’ve worn mine to work for almost 2 years now and not a single comment about it. Your GMT is going to get a LOT of attention. There is one other area this watch shines. The true sport watch. I used to wear my Explorer 2 for this purpose but this model is so friggin good (disseapears) under a ski glove that it is the default option for me now. The less is more design philosophy executed almost perfect.
hello there Ash, new sub here... i can very much relate to your story on the explorer. i am lucky enough to know the owner of a small AD and was sold the batman and explorer at the same time last year. The situation was identical to yours. At first, all i wore was the gmt (I was in LOVE) and the explorer virtually got no wrist time at all, sitting at the bank. Few months pass and i reach for the explorer way way more. I love it's versatility and how it's easy to wear, very comfortable, simple, elegant and low key. Cheers!
Great review Ash, love the explorer because it's such a simple and versatile watch but it's means a lot to me as it was the watch my late grandfather use to wear. Went to my local AD and registered my interest and they told me realistically I'll probably get the call around 18 months. It's been a year, fingers crossed I get a call soon.
@@Ossory88not exactly sure but i think it all stems from the number 3, triangles have three sides, pi is 3.14, which can represent sinusoidal waves, frequency, angles, all the mysteries of the universe. The number 3 and 6 are separated by 3, same goes for 9. For 6, hexagons have six sides, human eye can see up to 60hz, etc. And also if you start to double 3, 6, and 9 you’ll gain other important values
An honest review! Had decided recently that the Explorer 36 mm would be my first entry into the professional watch collection. Love the simplicity and the timeless elegance, a watch I think I could wear for the rest of my life.
1:20. “I find myself attracted to the simplest of things….” I agree totally! More than any other in my watch collection, I wear my JLC Geophysic 1958. It’s kind of JLC’s equivalent of the Rolex Explorer. It’s 38.5mm, time-only, 100m water resistant, and perfect for any occasion. I just love that watch for all the reasons you do the Explorer.
I have a 7.5inch wrist and I'm hoping to get the Explorer. I'm currently considering the two-tone option as it could be a nice option to share with my wife and daughters. I love the way Rolex has executed the two-tone design. That being said, I'd also be content with the stainless steel version as it's more affordable. I completely agree with your insights about the recent price increases, and it's definitely a factor I'll take into account when making my final decision. Thanks for sharing your valuable expertise, Ash! Your videos are always fantastic.
Thoroughly enjoyable video Ash and very relatable as a fellow Explorer 36 owner. In a Rolex UA-cam world seemingly dominated by content from questionable at best grey market dealers and abrasive individuals your videos are a welcome occurrence. Keep up the good work. I’d be interested to know what if any Rolex you’re looking for next as I’m struggling to find anything new that takes my eye. Here’s hoping the 2023 releases inspire.
I'm waiting to see if anything comes along, but I think I may be done with Rolex for a long while - they have nothing that elicits a sense of excitement in me at the moment.
Picked this up last year but sold it for a 114270 (at about 2 thirds of the price). The lighter bracelet, dial proportions and lower price of the older 36mm sealed it for me.
Great review, I also have found my gmt has taken a back seat to this beauty. It’s just such an easy wear and beautifully built. Handles everything from the gym, work, meeting clients and going out.
While I prefer the 214270 mkii…you did a great job in this video explaining the allure of the explorer. It really is the best Rolex. Keep up the great work…enjoy your videos
Great review video! The Rolex Explorer is my grail watch. I am a first time viewer and new subscriber. The way you describe your feelings toward your Explorer is how I feel about my San Martin SN020-G2!
There was a cottage house being sold in dublin lately. Small tiny thing for like 700k. I thing if you did a count of bricks in that thing, you would rather get the explorer. Sensible choice I reckon
After 2 years on the waiting list, i finally got the call from the AD yesterday. I have a thin wrist and this watch just looks fantastic on my wrist. I was used to bigger watches and it I have to admit that this size fits me better.
I had the same experience, had my Explorer for 2 months and only just bonding with it now. The lightweight & smaller size have grown on me it’s very comfortable.
One remark on the trend of bigger and bigger watches: I think the tides have been turning for quite some time now. The tonality on most mainstream watch sites has noticably shifted in favour of smaller diameters. It's a slow but steady trend.
I have the larger explorer on my 7.5 inch wrist. Great dress watch, however put a combat colour NATO strap on it and it doubles up as a great field watch.
Can't decide between explorer vs blue DJ 36. I love date function and the color blue. But I also love how everyday wearable explorer is. Only going to get one. leaning toward DJ
Great video, Ash! I dont have an Explorer for now, but I do have a watch that I really love that fits into that niche for me. I have the Tissot Gentleman Powermatic 80, which is simple, elegant, and well finished. The blue dial has real depth and plays beautifully with the light.
I always enjoy your videos on watches and fashion. This one on the 124270 36mm Rolex Explorer was very timely for me. Currently, my daily wearer is a Tudor Ranger M79950-0001 in 39mm. I am very interested in the newly released 40mm Explorer 224270 as a dressier occasion watch, but still acceptable in a business casual setting. I know you said you’ve chopped wood with yours, but I don’t see myself doing yard work with my first Rolex or even my Ranger on my wrist. I’ll reserve those wrist times for the Timex Expedition Camper. Thanks again for the first impressions on the new Explorer series, and keep the good content coming.
Hey Ash-great reviews. I got my 124270 just a couple months after you. It was running perfectly for me (less than +1 sec/day) for about 9 months, at which point I started losing time (as much as -8 sec/day). After some research on online forums, I discovered this seems to be a common defect in 32xx caliber models. Specifically, the watches run perfectly at first, but after 8 months to 1 year, they start losing time, running progressively slower and slower. Rolex has taken my watch back for servicing (for free under warranty), however it seems that many people have experienced the same sudden loss in accuracy, and it often recurs 8-12 months after servicing. I would be very curious whether you've experienced this also. Cheers!
@@TheChapsGuide Thanks. The Rolex watchmakers on the forums speculate that it is a design defect which puts excess wear on the seconds wheel or pivot. If you put it in a safe for several months, then that could delay when you experience the effect. But hopefully you don't experience it at all. Keep us updated in either case. Cheers!
The Explorer 36mm is probably more available now since the 40mm came out. I got 2 calls from two separate ADs, I took the first one. Surprisingly, I didn't have any prior purchase history, nor did I wear nice clothes or expected anything from that AD. I came in, tried the watch on, put my name down and they called me within a week. I feel blessed! My first Rolex as well.
“Illicit the attention of somebody who may seek to relieve you of your very expensive piece”, love it. I have a nice speedy reduced with gold details from my dad which is v slim and 38/39mm which is as small as I’d go - I can see the appeal when I put it I forget it’s there. Also, Why do Rolex lie about it’s measurements? And I agree with you on pricing
I have the same watch. That's a great summary. I don't think you mentioned the watch has "Easylink" 5 mm adjustment. Not as flexible as "Glydelock" on the Sub, but I found it enough for me.
I’ve had a Rolex date just ss with 18 carat gold for 34 years. 2700 dollars paid in 1989. Daily wear at work and at leisure e including swimming. No problem until I accidentally dropped it on the floor. 900 dollars and after a two month wait I have my watch back with a new crystal and perfectly polished like new. My favorite watch indeed. And one of 5 Swiss made automatics and one daily winding movement watches I have. All different brands.
Hi Ash, wondering if you could advise. So my AD was keeping me in line for a green OP36 for my 40th. However they've said it's very unlikely I'll get it in 18 months time at this rate. They've only had two in the shop in the past year. He's happy to put me down for the Explorer. And it's a watch i very much like too. I have a plain taste and prefer classy stark and simple watches ( in the past I've owned a Speedy, an IWC pilot mark 16 and Aqua Terra black inky dial from 2003 and was offered the 39mm Explorer which at the time unfortunately i couldn't justify buying, and have no regrets, as the 36mm watch is definitely what i would go for). So.... would you a) get the explorer b) wait for a green OP or overpay on secondary market or c) tudor pelagos 39mm which i really like too and would make a great sporty do it all piece. My current collection is just a G shock 5600e and a few cheap watches Thank you so much!
Hi, thanks for the question - I may try and respond more fully in a video if I get the chance (I'm living in a tent for the next week, so things are tough to film responses) - but in short, the Rolex Explorer is the class winner in my opinion (I'm wearing one now!) - the OP is a bit of a novelty piece and has less versatility than the other pieces that you mentioned due to it's colour. They are uber popular right now - which generally means that they will see their popularity swing in the future. The Pelagos 39 is an amazing unit for the price - hard to argue against such a capable watch, it is the equal of the Rolex Sub in my opinion (and I own a Sub). But buy the Exp and stay on the list for the OP - winner, winner!
@@TheChapsGuide please enjoy the tent times instead of responding to my silly questions ha ha! I think you are right. The other watches are distractions and I should stay true to my original course and just get the explorer... it will serve almost every purpose, and for very messy days I will always have my G shock... Enjoy your wild adventure. We're off to Holy Island for the day (I'm Scottish Borders based, so it's not too far)... if you've never been to the area, it's very nice I moved from Bristol which I also love (the south west is special). Have a good one Ash
Nice to see an actual owners review of something. Thanks for taking the time. However, while I appreciate the Explorer, I can't quite believe I'm watching a video on sartorial journeys presented by a gentleman who wears a field watch on a steel bracelet watch under a dress shirt cuff, complete with tie. Might I be as forward to suggest trading in the DJ and GMT Master for a 1908? :) Lastly, I'd like to point out that rumours are abound that one can find decent watches from other brands. I'm not sure you'll believe me, judging by this video, but one can try.
I got the poor man's Explorer ..... Tudor Black Bay 36. Very happy with it but it doesn't have the 3, 6 and 9. Incredibly accurate and nicely finished.
I want to compare this one side by side with the new 40mm version, but I’m pretty sure I will prefer the 36mm as you did. The new wrench in the works is the Tudor BB54! What a little beauty that is and for half the price. Ironically, I’m sure it will prove to be popular and the Explorer may be easier to obtain now.
Good morning Ash. Of all the watches of the Rolex brand the Explorer is my favourite of them all. It is the only one I would aspire to own. It is very understated as you said it could be a Seiko or a Orient also the Longines conquest is similar to the Explorer in style. Which I have thought of purchasing as a alternative to the Explorer.
Great watch...comfortable size for daily wear. One question...you raised a small issue with the adjustability of the bracelet...that watch has the Micro adjustment on the bracelet...for me I find that this provideds enough flexibility for warmer weather....do you use that feature at all??
I do use all the adjustable options on the Explorer, but there is comparison in usability to the Glidelock or the T-Fit bracelets. Hopefully Rolex will catch up soon.
A very good appraisal Ash. I have much the same taste in watches, although I dress far more casual. Although I have a number of watches, this 36mm is my daily go to wear. It's probably the most readable, apart my PP Calatrava, circa 1960. I also have a rhodium dial Yacht-master 40, using a rubber Tiffany blue strap. Beautiful, but it's not as clear to read. I think the best dive watch at the moment, is my Omega 300m. Blue with matching blue rubber strap. So easy to read, swimming in the Red Sea, where I live in Israel. If I only had a choice of one watch, it would either be my 36mm Date-just from 1980 or the newish Explorer 36. I like you enjoy the outside life, as I do, Ash.
The nearly perfect everyday watch, I have long admired these. This watch costs what it does simply because it is so popular, it is well built, but that is not the reason it costs over 6k. Enjoyed your review of this very nice watch.
Nicely done and informative!...I wear a 1016 daily (bought new in the 90's) ... wear it on a Perlon as i pretty much wear it 24/7 ... curious about your thoughts on the sapphire crystal ... the Acrylic on my 1016 gives me comfort that i can do anything with no worry ...and i have worn it mountain banking and even playing ice hockey (didn't want to leave in the change room) ;) ... do you ever fear banging it against something and cracking the crystal?
I wanted to like this new 36mm but when i tried it on it just felt too dainty compared to my 39mm Explorer. Like you said its more of a 35mm watch. I wished they made it a true 36mm with 20mm lug width.
I have several watches of rolexs, but once I put the explorer on its such a hit of dopamine.... it's an addicting watch. Luckily, I did not have to wait long for my watches. I made a good relationship with one of the associates and she never failed me. When the explorer got released, I got the call like two months later. I really think it's about the way you carry yourself and talk about the watches. It was very interesting to get calls and see people come into the rolex boutique and they see a young 25 year old getting the call while they have to spend thousands of dollars. PLEASE do not be one of those people. Be patient and if you can't go buy grey market. People will spend a boat load of money on stuff they dont want and end up paying more than just buying grey market. I was able to score a rolex sub date(1 month wait) no purchase history. Rolex explorer 2 polar(2 months wait), Rolex explorer 1(two months wait), Rolex gmt 2 batman(2 months wait). Anyone can do it if i can.
Bought the 124270 a few months ago and am so in love with it. You know of any good straps to put it on? Having trouble finding a good rubber bracelet to swap into it.
This has always been a great simple watch that’s versatile with anything you wear. But the last few years have seen a crazy price increase on this watch. I just can’t justify pay $10,000 for a watch only timepiece. Still a beautiful watch.
Really like the Explorer, maybe I got lucky but was offered one at an AD after only 4 months! Turned it down because I was going through a breakup at the time so bigger priorities financially!
I thought about you today as I passed by our Rolex dealer, but all I could afford is the Indian food in the basement. lol I did give a watch to my brother-in-law today as the two complications were not to my liking; I prefer just a watch face.
Is that a tie, or are you just happy to see me? I owned this model as well as the 39mm and liked them, but they weren't keepers. Keep the videos coming!
I’ve got one and I love it and would agree with everything said. One thing is missing - its a scratch magnet - some of the shots showed it - have another look but I think that is true of all rolexes and every watch I own,
Thanks for the video! I have the Explorer and it’s made my other time only watches obsolete. I’m currently thinking of selling two watches to obtain the Explorer 2. The Explorer line will be great for me as i love outdoors ect.
Five years? That’s almost Daytona time. I think he hoping you will go elsewhere. I put my name down at Goldsmiths for the 124270 in January 2022 and got the call early September. According to my AD, top wait time for 124270 should be no longer than a year.
Glad to see that my sentiment around no-date watches is shared, which seems to be rare nowadays. It seems like no-date dials have become restricted to the high end and microbrands for some weird reason, likely to do with manufacturing scale to save money - easier to use a date movement for everything even if it's not required or detrimental. Very often good dials are ruined by an out of place or ugly date window, and you can see it all the way from the low end such as orient bambino, tissot prx, basically every seiko (not applicable to grand seiko who have very beautiful 3 handers) to even the $10k mark especially from IWC, Omega etc. No-date dials are starting to show up more lately though, which is a good thing.
No date dials certainly have a cleaner symmetrical design, but a date window can be placed in the right place, barely noticeable (e.g. Movado Datron, small date window at 12 o'clock)
Wil I won’t I ? When released initially I was in picking up a piece from the dealer . Tried it on and thought even for a 36 it looked really small . I’m 6”3 and 7.5 wrist but I’m getting more enthused about smaller watches but still have a couple of 42 mm divers although most are 40 41 Rolex .. 37 .5 would be perfect for me but would 35 .5 feel too small ?
Great video Ash. I found my Explorer to be a bit of a collection killer. It’s so comfortable and fits in, in every scenario. Not surprised to hear your GMT has taken a back seat.

The new Explorer fits your wrist very well! I’m remembering your start in hunting it down nearly two years ago. And you were lucky to get it within half a year.

Best regards,
Claus
Stealth wealth is a white gold Daytona or Day Date not a 6 grand stainless Steel explorer
You get it yet?

@@Ossory88 Learn vortex numbers.
@@silveriver9nah im good.
@@Ossory88 Ok, stay ignorant, your call.
Thoughtful, honest review. You're a masterful speaker.
Picked this up last year but sold it for a 114270 (at about 2 thirds of the price). The lighter bracelet, dial proportions and lower price of the older 36mm sealed it for me.
Very informative, thank you! Love the jacket and the set of your video being in the woods with a little campfire. So cozy!
Love the video 👍🏼 I'm on the waiting list for one of these as my first Rolex so fingers crossed i get the call in the next couple of years 😂
I enjoyed every second. Please keep it coming.Thank you for another great video brother
I think it’s becoming more available. I called my ad and it was ready the same day. I was very surprised
A little bit of style and a little bit of charm, that's all you can want from a great watch review.
Great review video! The Rolex Explorer is my grail watch. I am a first time viewer and new subscriber. The way you describe your feelings toward your Explorer is how I feel about my San Martin SN020-G2!
Welcome aboard!
Just picked up my 40mm Explorer. Built like a brick.... Love it.
Follow up, I sold it. On my 6.5” wrist it was too small and the bracelet too narrow.
I dont have an Explorer for now, but I do have a watch that I really
love that fits into that niche for me.
Cheers!
Hi, no issues with the accuracy at this point, but I will monitor it more carefully rom now onwards.
Cheers!
same issue happened to me, got it 2022 winter, worn it daily till now and it got slow to -6, -8 seconds a day.
Thank you for your time.
I love the Explorer. Such a crisp and clean aesthetic 👌
Not as flexible as "Glydelock" on the Sub, but I found it enough for me.
a perfect 2 watch collection would be two of them
Hi Ash, I think the Omega DeVille Tresor, 18k manual wind would be the perfect watch for you. Archie did a great review of this watch a while back.
My current collection is just a G shock 5600e and a few cheap watches
Thank you so much!
We're off to Holy Island for the day (I'm Scottish Borders based, so it's not too far)... if you've never been to the area, it's very nice
I moved from Bristol which I also love (the south west is special).
Lastly, I'd like to point out that rumours are abound that one can find decent watches from other brands. I'm not sure you'll believe me, judging by this video, but one can try.
I got the poor man's Explorer ..... Tudor Black Bay 36. Very happy with it but it doesn't have the 3, 6 and 9. Incredibly accurate and nicely finished.
Me too - it’s a fantastic watch, and the smaller size suits me well! Great value too……..👍
I want to compare this one side by side with the new 40mm version, but I’m pretty sure I will prefer the 36mm as you did. The new wrench in the works is the Tudor BB54! What a little beauty that is and for half the price. Ironically, I’m sure it will prove to be popular and the Explorer may be easier to obtain now.
Only just. The bb54 is quite hard to get now
@@mjhastings4534 Of course it is. Should have gone for one when it was released before demand took over.
@@mindspinn311 next year new releases will come again
i got mine a few months ago and love it. the only thing missing is glidelock.
On the waiting list for this. Can’t wait for the call!
@@TheChapsGuide I hope Rolex never puts their glidelock clasps on all models, the small ones with the 1 adjustment are just more comfortable.
I,ve been watching your vids for a while ,its the first time i,ve not viewed one to the end , all Rolex,ed out . !!!
The sapphire crystal is extremely robust and would take a hammer to shatter one. No need to worry on that account
I wanted to like this new 36mm but when i tried it on it just felt too dainty compared to my 39mm Explorer. Like you said its more of a 35mm watch. I wished they made it a true 36mm with 20mm lug width.
Great watch, would really like to one day see a video about the tudor bb54 from you. I have a feeling it's a watch right up your street :)
You have an amazing collection. Congratulations! The Explorer is my favorite.
My taste is similar to yours Ash, 36mm Explorer, 41mm no date Submariner, Datejust 36 and GMT Master 2 40mm. Great video Ash!
Good choice!
I would go high quality if possible. Don’t short change the mighty Explorer.
Loved your excitement about it. i love it too!
Very nice Rolex watch. You made a great choice. From the Design of the watch, to the size of it. Perfection.
How many links are there in total on a brand new Explorer bracelet?
At least enough for a wrist of 8.5 in
Such a lovely watch. Well done!
Thanks always classy talk with positivity ✌️
Do have more wrist shots in the future. I think most of us would appreciate looking at the watch while you talk
Roger that.
My AD tells me I could be waiting up to 5 years for one of these, which is pretty ridiculous, but it is perfection, I’ll have to keep pestering them.
Five years? That’s almost Daytona time. I think he hoping you will go elsewhere. I put my name down at Goldsmiths for the 124270 in January 2022 and got the call early September. According to my AD, top wait time for 124270 should be no longer than a year.
I’ve got the two-tone 36mm Explorer but I’m really not sure whether I like it or not
I'm really thinking this needs to be my first luxury watch. I'm between this and the AquaTerra, so we'll see.
Go with the Explorer
If you can get one 😮
Good morning sirs. If I may make a suggestion for a video, How about one about the Rotary watch brand. An english brand using a swiss movement?
Such a beautiful timepiece.
It is actually 35.5 mm. When they round it up they say it’s 36 mm.
I prefer the 36mm before the end of the eighties because of the less aggressive dial (smaller 3, 6, 9 numbers and batons).
36 looks really good on your wrist. nice
Thank you! Cheers!
A true classic. Great video.
Considering your military background, and very nice necktie in this video, would you like to add the Air King to your small watch collection?
I’m not attracted to the Air King due to its bulk. But I think it’s oddball looks can grow on you.
You may find it small for your wrist, well worth trying on first, but the size is very much more traditional than today's giants!
Great video, Ash.
I put myself on a waitlist last week for size 36. They said I will get in a year time. No problem, time to come up with 7250 euro until then : P
What happens if the watch arrives after the year goes by
Clean basic simple, good choice.
Explorer 1 is a very cool under the radar Rolex
Sold one due to the high service charges and time loss. Bought a Steinhart Ocean 39 Adventure classic. Same level of comfort and a bit more accurate.
Good review!
There is micro adjustment built into your explorer's clasp.
Sadly not enough adjustment for my needs.
