Yeah I mean. I kinda get what they were saying in a sense. As an 18yr you should be able to voice your opinions or needs to your parents without being treated like a child. Of course that depends on your own maturity. But I get that if the mom said "I'd rather you stay here" he would do that. But he should have communicated that to the show. They're both kids still and you can see that. At the same time shes for sure got insecurities and hes a guy. You can’t be telling someone that you want a future with them and to get married, and treat them so casually in person. It’s a generational thing. When Max and I were this age, we were expected to move out and be adults by 18. I moved out at 17. Didn’t depend on my parents for anything after that. Now adays kids move out much later and mature much slower. So an 18 yo now adays is like a 12 year old when Max and I were kids. Harsh, but truth. My 18 and 19 still live with me and depend on me fully. It’s a different world.

Generally, for some cultures ... kids only move out when they're ready to get married (which is paid for, by the parents). Usually, like for many Europeans and all Middle Eastern cultures, the parents look after the kids ... pay for their education ... until they've graduated. Many, who can afford it, buy a house for their kids once they get married ...
They usually have a strong family bond ... unlike anglo-saxon cultures.
