Pretty much any ult that is helped by keeping multiple enemies in the same area will be a great combo with Mauga ult. Bastion, Illari and Wrecking balls ults, even a dragon blade would be able to get better value if you trap the whole team in the cage.
@willyc2051 yeah but Meis primary fire is AOE and has a slow effect. So even without Blizzard mei is extremely effective here. Especially since she can use her close combat spray from outside the field where you can't shoot her.
My only questions for the testing with is Mei and Lifeweaver specifically. Before the cage fight is deployed can Mei's Icewall or Lifeweaver's Tree block the LOS check before it chains you? I imagine it will go through Mei's wall but am really curious about Lifeweaver since he can block Sigma's ultimate as if a wall blocked the center. Another thing, does Lifeweaver remove the friendly Mauga's infinite ammo once pulled outside and if it does remove it, does it reapply the infinite ammo when he goes back inside?
If your team has 2 Mauga (like if Echo copiies the opposite Mauga), you can't have 2 Mauga's ult up at the same time. When the second one is called, it destroys the first cage!
A couple things I'd like to see tested are if torbs lava counts as a fire effect for Maugas boost and if Mauga can run through his own ultimate after getting lifegripped without getting trapped.
I've seen a lot of people mention Ashe, but nobody has mentioned Torb. Also molten core inside the thunder dome is OP because nobody can escape from it.
is the infinite ammo from mauga's ult attached to the fact he is inside his ult, or does he keep the infinite ammo if he is pulled out by a lifeweaver from his team?
maybe you could do some more line of sights testing. I was thinking mei wall but also perhaps any deployable like torb turret or illari pylon. EDIT : also was wondering if torb's ult applied burn damage.
if you're confused about which abilities will let you get out of a cage fight - just remember it's the exact same abilities as a graviton surge. teleporter, life grip, fortify, etc. the only one that won't work is petal platform because of the interaction with the chain.
2 other things that me and my friends found, if you light a shield (like Reinhardt's) on fire, you can crit it!, also if a fortified Orisa is on fire, you can also crit her :)
So it seems like the main counterpicks for Mauga is Orisa, Sombra, for the ult, the counterpicks are Sym and Lifeweaver is able to life grip you or TP out of the ult
you can break ult by pressing it again after its down. so if you end up with a useless ult and youre inside needing to get to your team break it. its the same with lifeweaver tree and other stuff
Another reason why i'm proud to be Sym main. Sombra translocator are Unavailable when you're in his cage btw 💀 but good news is she can EMP Mauga's cage.
I feel like Sombra actually gets countered by Mauga, she can hack him out of charge sure. But Mauga’s miniguns prevents her from going invis, his ult just locks her down and from my experience her ult does nothing in a teamfight as-long as you’re dealing a ton of damage.
As someone who loves lifeweaver and symmetra I’m very happy that this new hero is going to promote playing these two with Mauga or to counter Mauga since they both can work well with him and also both can help teammates counter his ult too
The Kiriko debuff purge not working sounds like a bug/unintended interaction. You'd think a "Clear debuff" power would still work, but... Does anyone else wanna see Lucio doing wall riding on the barrier? Like, the chain keeps him from jumping out, but I think it'd look pretty funny for one to be rolling along it.
I don’t know if it’s just me but something about Mauga doesn’t really feel “overwatchy”, might just be that he’s new and I’m not used to seeing him yet, I dunno Him overpowering all “charge” abilities (rein, doomfist, etc) is stupid
Hey, did you guys try Mai wall as a form of blocking line of sight because it’s actually a physical object to see if that would also impact the chains grabbing onto you. I just saw that you guys only tried the shield wall or the world shield. From Sim?
Lifeweaver's Life Grip can pull people out of Cage Fight from what I've seen. I did it to save a teammate and it gave me the option and it literally yanked them out of Mauga's shield like a bar of soap popping out of someone's hand.
When you charge, you can cancel the end of the slam animation (and damage) to gain some time for using the ability as movement only. You need to cancel it just at the start of the jump. and it works only for full length charge/slam.
Ramatra is still a good pick despite beings tuck inside the ult woth him. Due to the fact Ram has no movement abilities you can ult his ult and just block. That or brawl with him. So yiu essentially trap him in with you
i had this running in the background so i didnt quite hear every little detail, but did you experiment with mercy reviving while in the caged area. (with mercy inside and outside) im curious if they get rechained or if mercy can somehow get them outside with a revive?
Lifeweaver pulling him out of his own ult actually sounds like a positive because then the shield prevents the enemies from attacking while your team gets free shots
For his ult you explained how symm can escape with TP. But if she is outside can she put down a TP to the inside of it and let her team escape? I assume she can.
I have a request: what if mauga used his ult on the boat in Rialto under the bridge as it re-enters line of sight? Would it pull enemies on the side of the bridge and drag them into the water?
his name is samoan of descent and it means mountain. in samoan the G is pronounced like a "ng" and less of a harsh G sound. no one asked but thought it was important :)
Does his aura heal allies based on the damage that Mauga does or based on the damages that each ally does? From the description of the ability, I understood that each ally basically gets lifesteal, so they heal from the damage that they themselves deal. But I think it could also make sense, and perhaps be a better ability, if it heals allies only from the damage that Mauga himself deals, as that would enable a team to optimize the heal using Nano boost on Mauga + nade on allies, which makes Mauga act almost like a Zenyatta ult. If it's the first option where allies get lifesteal, then it would have synergy with Mercy's ult if she damage-boosts the team so they all heal more.
I thiiiiink it’s the first thing (all allies in his range while it’s active get lifesteal) but I didn’t pay enough attention while playing yesterday to really test this. Something to try and note for next time
So Mauga is technically the only character that can do crit damage to wrecking ball while he’s in his ball form. I love that, now I can somewhat counter him without becoming Roadhog, Rammatra or Junker Queen
if you throw down your ult and your lifeweaver pulls you out, do you get to keep your infinite ammo during the duration of the ult or until broken or the infinite ammo effect goes away right away?
I have been in one of custom games mauga test lobby, and i have few additions to the knowledge: -Dva in mech, Baby Dva and Bomb Mech(ultimate) are three different entities. Dva in mech and Baby Dva can be Chained, but Bomb mech can not be chained, Mech only inherit all statuses of Dva in mech while she launches her ultimate. This determines the following interactions with Mauga's cage: 1) Bomb mech can enter and exit the cage while flying to explosion 2) While chained, Dva can get out of LOS(line of sight) and demech/remech to escape 3)If Dva presses ult chained, the Bomb will inherit the chained status There is also another additions to the cage behavior: 1) Cage expands from its Root to up, not down. 2)That means, when Mauga places ult on some elevation - everyone beneath it wouldnt be chained, but if someone whos is already chained will drop bellow the Root level - they still be chained -> You can swing on chain :) best option to test - Route 66 If you place cage on the payload, it will move with payload. to replicate it - pullout the Mauga from cage and leave the cart only with attackers
Side note, Mauga loses infinite ammo, but regains movement abilities when lifeweaver pulls him from his own ult. Also the ult cannot re-chain Mauga if he enters the cage after getting lifegripped.
Lifeweaver's ult is also quite handy if you place it right in the middle of his ult because the tree will not only heal you but also give you some coverage to buy time.
So, time for me to stop playing support and Orisa, and play Sombra to counter Mauge when he releases. Finally, I can go back to my first main from OW1. Or I can play Orisa, and ditch my whole team when they get stuck in Mauge’s ult. Also, Mauge ult + Dva ult in open queue? Sounds fun. Or Orisa pulls enemies in and Mauge traps them in. And nice to see another counter for Doom. Poor guy.
Something i found out was that if you charge before you get picked up by sigmas ult and jump while in the air it actually cancels out his ult and you dont take 50% damage
SYMMETRA MAINS STAND UP! LOL I don't even play this game and I know how much everyone hates on Symmetra. I was wacthing someone stream the game [and usuallyi just leave Overwatch streams... but i like this streamer enough to suffer through] and while they were playing a free for all mode as the team waited for the next match... every time you get a kill it would switch your "Hero" to someone else. One of the people playing refused to allow SOMEONE ELSE... TO PLAY SYMMETRA! the person got Sym and she immidiatly was like "No get Symmetra out of here... come kill me so you don't have Symm... no Symm"
That ultimate us not fun. It shouldn’t disable movement abilities but still keep you trapped inside because if the chain tether. Junkrat traps are annoying but fairly avoidable. Making it a wide range AOE and your character being unable to use any of their kit for 10 seconds, therefore you just die. Isn’t well designed. It’s like OG sombra hack and that’s not a good thing. 10 seconds is a lot of time in OW. And nobody’s cooldowns should be impeded for that long.
1) What happens when two Mauga’s charge at each other 2) Does his e stack with reaper & Moira’s life steal? 3) How many hero’s can deal enough damage to effectively break out of his ult via just breaking it?

6:30
You need LoS for the trapped effect to activate
even in LOS they wouldnt be trapped. Ult has only height to Up, everything beneath wouldnt be trapped @@Mramazing-mv2ix
You can make a cool grapple hook game mode with mauga's ult and life weaver's petal platform
queen sym slaying as always. she won the idgaf war
Mauga ult with mei is devastating
Pretty much any ult that is helped by keeping multiple enemies in the same area will be a great combo with Mauga ult. Bastion, Illari and Wrecking balls ults, even a dragon blade would be able to get better value if you trap the whole team in the cage.
@willyc2051 yeah but Meis primary fire is AOE and has a slow effect. So even without Blizzard mei is extremely effective here. Especially since she can use her close combat spray from outside the field where you can't shoot her.
Reaper's and Junkrat's ults we're also very strong with Mauga's in the games I had. We called it "fish in a barrel"
May be a stupid question but could you see if Ramattra can punch through the maoulga ult?
He can
@@en.zen0939 k
If your team has 2 Mauga (like if Echo copiies the opposite Mauga), you can't have 2 Mauga's ult up at the same time. When the second one is called, it destroys the first cage!
How strong is the barrier? Does a DVA ult destroy it?
Yes (Source: I did it in game)
Queen sym unbothered as always
Her existence is to just give Bombastic Side Eye to every characters in Overwatch just like how you put teleporter down and just leaves
feel like any update or character that comes into the game Reinhardt just gets worse and worse
A couple things I'd like to see tested are if torbs lava counts as a fire effect for Maugas boost and if Mauga can run through his own ultimate after getting lifegripped without getting trapped.
1. Fire is fire so yes.
2. Same as an enemy Mauga outside of one.
Does Mauga retain his infinite ammo for the remainder of the ult even after LW grips him out of his own cage?
Doesn’t look like it, 6:55 in the video shows this
maybe you could do some more line of sights testing.
Cage + nano + kitsune is probably one of the most fun ult combos for me. You just melt any hero in the game in 2 seconds or less
Cage + Artillery , you can cover the entire area
Why not add in a mei freeze for absolute overkill
surely echo can leave if she turns into someone who can leave?
Mauga himself can cancel it by pressing q again
So it seems like the main counterpicks for Mauga is Orisa, Sombra, for the ult, the counterpicks are Sym and Lifeweaver is able to life grip you or TP out of the ult
Mauga can cancel Mauga’s charge if they run into one another.
you can break ult by pressing it again after its down. so if you end up with a useless ult and youre inside needing to get to your team break it. its the same with lifeweaver tree and other stuff
I don’t know if it’s just me but something about Mauga doesn’t really feel “overwatchy”, might just be that he’s new and I’m not used to seeing him yet, I dunno
Him overpowering all “charge” abilities (rein, doomfist, etc) is stupid
"The new hero Mauga was released-"
Ya!
"-for all those that own Overwatch 2."
Dang it. I wanted to try him in paladins. A shame.
Hey, did you guys try Mai wall as a form of blocking line of sight because it’s actually a physical object to see if that would also impact the chains grabbing onto you. I just saw that you guys only tried the shield wall or the world shield. From Sim?
Who would win: Man in rocket propelled power armor the size of a truck
OR
One very muscly maori
Lifeweaver's Life Grip can pull people out of Cage Fight from what I've seen. I did it to save a teammate and it gave me the option and it literally yanked them out of Mauga's shield like a bar of soap popping out of someone's hand.
When you charge, you can cancel the end of the slam animation (and damage) to gain some time for using the ability as movement only. You need to cancel it just at the start of the jump. and it works only for full length charge/slam.
Mauga's healing varied each time you tested it??? That sounds like a bug! They need to fix that. Consistency in the numbers matters.
Ramatra is still a good pick despite beings tuck inside the ult woth him. Due to the fact Ram has no movement abilities you can ult his ult and just block. That or brawl with him. So yiu essentially trap him in with you
It’s kinda dumb and inconsistent that fortify purges the trapped effect but not suzu???
I know this is probably a stupid question but can meis ultimate freeze mauga while he’s in charge
i had this running in the background so i didnt quite hear every little detail, but did you experiment with mercy reviving while in the caged area. (with mercy inside and outside) im curious if they get rechained or if mercy can somehow get them outside with a revive?
If Mauga ults and LW grips him out of his own ult, does he still have unlimited ammo? Could be a viable strat if so.
Lifeweaver pulling him out of his own ult actually sounds like a positive because then the shield prevents the enemies from attacking while your team gets free shots
I feel Muaga just ignores alot of establish rules or some interaction. Big jump in power creep.
For his ult you explained how symm can escape with TP. But if she is outside can she put down a TP to the inside of it and let her team escape? I assume she can.
If you ult close to an edge you can jump off and the chain will keep you hanging for a while
“no one can escape, ana cannot escape, bap cannot escape, brig cannot escape” 😭bros listing off his hitlist
Question: if Mauga leaves his own ult via Lifeweaver, he loses his infinite ammo buff?
I have a request: what if mauga used his ult on the boat in Rialto under the bridge as it re-enters line of sight? Would it pull enemies on the side of the bridge and drag them into the water?
If you are Reaper and Mauga Uses ultimate while you are middle tp animation does Reaper's tp get canceled? or is it like sombra's translocator?
his name is samoan of descent and it means mountain. in samoan the G is pronounced like a "ng" and less of a harsh G sound. no one asked but thought it was important :)
Been playing a lot of bastion into him and I’ve noticed treating him like a “long range road hoad minus the hook” if you will, it works very well
This video could’ve been 6mins…
My brother in christ pls see a speech pathologist. That's not an accent.
I wonder if Torb's Ult counts as being on fire in this scenario
Something to try and note for next time
About the charge, I'm pretty sure you can still boop a charging Mauga with Brig's flail. You may want to test that.
What can he say except you’re welcome
How much hp does the barrier have?
So Mauga is technically the only character that can do crit damage to wrecking ball while he’s in his ball form. I love that, now I can somewhat counter him without becoming Roadhog, Rammatra or Junker Queen
Time to put sym back in support
Of course Orisa invalidates Mauga's ult...as if the tank meta needed more reason to hate Orisa.
She's not hard to deal with but ok
Thanks for the vid :) The only way we gona get better is educating and knowing to make decisions how to play and it builds up the community
if you throw down your ult and your lifeweaver pulls you out, do you get to keep your infinite ammo during the duration of the ult or until broken or the infinite ammo effect goes away right away?
the answer is no
Does the fire from Torb's ult also trigger Mauga's secondary fire crits? I know Ashe's dynamite does but I'm curious on Torb.
They really need to add something for when Mauga's charge hits Orisa's fortify.
ugly MythBustin. Karq is way more better
ok ruuudeeee
I have been in one of custom games mauga test lobby, and i have few additions to the knowledge:
-Dva in mech, Baby Dva and Bomb Mech(ultimate) are three different entities. Dva in mech and Baby Dva can be Chained, but Bomb mech can not be chained, Mech only inherit all statuses of Dva in mech while she launches her ultimate. This determines the following interactions with Mauga's cage:
1) Bomb mech can enter and exit the cage while flying to explosion
2) While chained, Dva can get out of LOS(line of sight) and demech/remech to escape
3)If Dva presses ult chained, the Bomb will inherit the chained status
There is also another additions to the cage behavior:
1) Cage expands from its Root to up, not down.
2)That means, when Mauga places ult on some elevation - everyone beneath it wouldnt be chained, but if someone whos is already chained will drop bellow the Root level - they still be chained -> You can swing on chain :) best option to test - Route 66
If you place cage on the payload, it will move with payload. to replicate it - pullout the Mauga from cage and leave the cart only with attackers
Bro got fortnite accent 😭
What about tracer recall?
Side note, Mauga loses infinite ammo, but regains movement abilities when lifeweaver pulls him from his own ult. Also the ult cannot re-chain Mauga if he enters the cage after getting lifegripped.
Lifeweaver's ult is also quite handy if you place it right in the middle of his ult because the tree will not only heal you but also give you some coverage to buy time.
You can pull an ally mug out of the ult and still shoot the trapped enemies with unlimited ammo
Lifeweaver can leave the ult if he is on a high ground near the middle of it and uses Petal platform.
This was such a good idea! Thanks for testing all of this out for us!
Poor guy.
fix your lisp
Tracer recall?
Something i found out was that if you charge before you get picked up by sigmas ult and jump while in the air it actually cancels out his ult and you dont take 50% damage
SYMMETRA MAINS STAND UP! LOL
I don't even play this game and I know how much everyone hates on Symmetra. TO PLAY SYMMETRA! the person got Sym and she immidiatly was like "No get Symmetra out of here... come kill me so you don't have Symm... no Symm"
Can lucio wallride on the inside of the barrier? if yes then thats a huge plus for his survivability when trapped
Tho it is a movement ability so yeah
Saw a diff mauga vid
Its deactivated
It's a barrier not a wall how would he be able to wall ride?
@@pandaboss5085 idk, it prevents you from going through it so there would be a chance its seen as a temporary wall for him
@@BobOrKlaus it doesn't prevent you from going through it, the chain limits your movement
1) What happens when two Mauga’s charge at each other
2) Does his e stack with reaper & Moira’s life steal?
3) How many hero’s can deal enough damage to effectively break out of his ult via just breaking it?
1) mutual stun
