Obviously, at some point DJ Shadow brought me here. But... Sekoilu Seestyy is one of the most beautiful, haunting melodies I've ever heard. I would never even know about it if it wasn't for him. So, DJ Shadow, thank you, you are my hero.
I remember listening to this while playing Everquest 1. I would roam around the Plains of Karana, just rolling green, a few trees, my trusty sword, and emptiness.
You don't complain that the bartender uses liquor made by someone else, but it's wonderful when that liquor is mixed with others to make something more than the sum of it's parts. If you can't appreciate something existing in a newly created context, perhaps art just isn't for you.
@davidtheguitarman Hi David, it's a Wurlitzer EP200 or 200a through a phaser, you can tell by the slight "reed" like sound compared to a smoother Rhodes tone. T
Welcome to the good stuff. Prepare to find more. Exploring samples is one of the best things I ever did in my life, I think... it's a large part of the reason I love music, and samples help me to find amazing musicians. Enjoy the journey, and keep going man!
hip hop taught me about jazz and soul and every genre between. a lot of "whosampled". it's a beautiful thing. Now I realize why DJs do what they do. Have fun with it man :)
Same chord progressions (And I think played on a Rhodes) in Tears for Fears' "Sowing the Seeds of Love" watch?v=ajy1xNB-LkI... Is it sampled from this?
+ApesOfBass I'd be very interested to hear the music you make. I'm sure it's much less lazy and way more creative than Dj Shadow's. Please post it here so we may judge it.
Chords!!! On the web i did not found good chord transciption for this tune. Let just say that the few ones i checked were totally wrong. Here's my attempt: Gmin - F - Ebmaj7(no third?) - Dmin9 (repeat 4x) Eb/Bb - F/A - Bb/Ab - Eb/G - GbminMaj7 - Gbmin - Dmin Here slash means 'over', (F/A is an F major with the A on the bass). GbminMaj7 means a Gbmin chord with an added major seventh. On guitar it can be done pretty easily, but I had to lower the leading note an octave from the Bb/Ab onwars for playability... here's how i do it (if i didnt mess around when typing): 3553xx Gmin 1x321x F x687xx Ebmaj7 x5755x Dmin9 6x888x Eb/Bb 5xx565 F/A 4x333x Bb/Ab 3x534x Eb/G 2xx221 GbminMaj7 2xx222 Gbmin x5x765 Dmin
Nope. I'm here because of Maggot Brain. (The song. Not the album.) Listen to it once. (I mean REALLY listen.) and you will never go back to 'DJ Shadow.'
ITT: People who have no idea what sampling is. You don't complain the bartender when he uses liquor made by someone else, but you appreciate when that liquor is mixed with others to make something entirely new. It's pretty sad if you can't appreciate something old in a new context. I guess art just isn't for the likes of you.
Insight, foresight, more sight, the clock on the wall reads a quarter-past midnight...
That's Prince Po from Organized Konfusion!

Agreed my brother! Couldn't have said it better myself!
Indeed
Yesss!
Agreed!!
Thank Pekka Pohjola & crew.
For some reason I can't believe this was made in the 70s. Sounds way more modern. Amazing piece.
You'd surprised how much music from the 70s sounds modern. Endless treasure to be found from that era!
please do share
timeless.
Yep, funny fact and paradox 70s music often sounds more modern than 80s 😛
A Wurlitzer electric piano run through a phaser pedal is about the most 1970s thing I can think of.
christ, great musician always bring another great musician to the listener.
Best damn chord progression ever at the beginning there.
You know, Endtroducing is one of my favorite albums of all time, but this might just be that much better than Midnight in a Perfect World...
This is a masterpiece, getting goosebumps by this track and Dj Shadow
I remember listening to this while playing Everquest 1. I would roam around the Plains of Karana, just rolling green, a few trees, my trusty sword, and emptiness.

LOVE DJ SHADOW- but this is better for sure
I'm just discovering strange and wondrous music via other artists that have sampled this auditory gem. This is great.

@@ZeranZeran looking for classic songs via samples sounds like an interesting idea. Thank you.
hip hop taught me about jazz and soul and every genre between. a lot of "whosampled". it's a beautiful thing. Now I realize why DJs do what they do. Have fun with it man :)
I am big fan of Midnight in a Perfect World, and DJ Shadow as an artist.
But "Sekoilu Seestyy" is better ; ]
Beautiful track.

Every masterpiece is as good as the puzzle piece is used to construct it.

never would I expect that a random youtube comment from a Focus video would make me discover what artist DJ Shadow sampled.

Don't lie, everybody's here because of Shadow...
Of course, I have been wanting to know this sample for years. Shadow's use is excellent.
Why would I lie? :)
Nope. I'm here because of Maggot Brain. (The song. Not the album.)
Listen to it once. (I mean REALLY listen.) and you will never go back to 'DJ Shadow.'
