I wonder what NEB will look like with Evans or Orr setting, Nicklin didn’t seem to be putting the best sets up this match. Lauren is amazing & the freshman tonight did great! NEB defense is going to get them a chip if anything
Nebraska coaching staff owes Lexi Sun an apology for benching her frequently, she single-handedly bailed them out in the 3rd set and eventually won the game for them when everyone struggled. They should also consider getting a better setter, Hames is setting high school level style.
Your first statement is so ridiculous. She was benched because she was hitting poorly and was outplayed by the freshmen. She earned her way back into the starting lineup. That's what athletics is all about--the best performers play. Your 2nd statement I agree with.
No. Sun *finally* stepped up. No apology needed. Coach Cook stated multiple times she wasn’t performing well in practice so she was benched until she could step up. NOW she’s done that. As for Nicklin, agreed
@@katnizclaro2959 Rookies earn starting jobs in practice or training camp. That's why they grade them on everything they do in practice. If you don't earn it in practice, you'll be behind someone who does. That's why they recruit the best players they can. As a coach once said to established players already on the team, "we're recruiting someone to take your spot". Its the nature of sports at the D1 level because the next step is pro ball. And you had better grow up and understand its a business.
honestly idk why they place so much emphasis on practice to begin with. There's a noticeable difference between Nebraska's relatively slow style of volleyball offensively (which is what they're playing with and against in practice) and other teams' styles (which is what they're up against in matches). Just because one player is better in practice playing with and against Nebraska-run offenses doesn't mean that'll translate to matches when they're playing actually good opponents (as we have since realized). Obviously I'm not a coach but Nebraska's staff seems to be stuck in their ways a lot and I've always wondered why practice is so heavily emphasized despite performances in actual matches being different.
Please have the announcers know the bare minimum about calls made during the match. Don't call everything a net violation when the up judge signals the reason for the call. It does not add to the broadcast, and it's not that difficult.
i think quite the opposite actually! Krause is a great oppo hitter, can hit all the shots and her blocking on the right side is absolutely amazing. She has had some very good days but also very freshman days, i think Whitney should be the outside instead. Whitney is super explosive and watching her swing on the outside, she’s always swinging high and hard never into the block
Totally agree. Nebraska doesn't look or play like one unit or a team. Louisville does. Texas does. Kentucky does. My guess is that Cook stumbled into turf wars when he was juggling the line-up so much in the beginning. People are more concerned about protecting themselves vs. promoting the team
Agree. That I think is the effect of changing the lineup a lot. When you have a solid starting lineup, those 6 player will have much more chemistry and feel each other when playing.
Once again, Nebraska shows their consistency in being inconsistent. Commentators sound like plumbers talking about volleyball which they have no idea with.
Message to John Cook: LAUENSTEIN #13, CAFFEY #3, KUBIK #10, SUN #11, STIVRINS #26 & KRAUSE #12 must always be in the FIRST SET per match. (Rotation Hames#1, Rodriguez#8, Knuckles #2, Akana #6 & Batenhorst #14). Indiana could’ve been a SWEEP ! 3-1 congrats 🍾🎈🎊 👏 👏 👏
The 2019 & 2020 big ten setter of the year was SYDNEY HILLEY not Nicklin Hames... like how did they get that wrong?? Was he just guessing she got that?
all i’m hoping for next season is for john cook to give kennedi the starting position. (even if nicklin chooses to use her covid year) cause there’s no way he can keep her in the bench when she can be out there making magic with her hands!
watch one set with Orr 😐 her feet were so inconsistent and she was practically doubling tryna be fancy and do too much… surprised they didn’t call more doubles on her… nicklin as a freshman honestly looked a better setter at least with her feet…. Orr was giving high school setter vibes
i will say tho, hames probably won’t stay another year so likely she will get the starting position. she truly needs to work on her feet and squaring to the outside, that’s about it. she absolutely is a good setter but she got the No. 1 recruiting spot for her all-around play in club and @ Eagan high school. Though she set she would often hit as well, and as a freshman i believe captained the varsity team and helped them go to 4 state finals. i thought she was really good as a high school player but her footwork particularly at this level has got to be better.

She was AMAZING in highschool and on the junior national team with some of her now teammates including the amazing Lexi Rodriguez! I think she’ll be the reason they get far!
As someone who’s been hard on Sun (mostly because fans cater to her far too much and overhype her + her seemingly snotty attitude) I did agree that the team was playing better without her for quite a few past games. Coach Cook said she didn’t play much (Start) because the best players will play and she wasn’t performing the best at practice. Tonight she stepped up BIG time and it was actually nice to see!
i honestly don’t quite think she has a snotty attitude, she seems like a very kind hearted person to me. i just feel like the pressure of knowing that the OH position isn’t solely hers shook her up a bit, u can tell it took her a while to find the spark to improve and just keep getting better but i think she’s finally there (:
i totally get what u mean tho, seniors have a tendency of thinking they know everything but have to remember that they can always improve. even coaches never stop learning
if anything Hames is the one with the poor attitude, her connections with everyone else just isn't there, the team doesn't jive well. and her setting this game is just atrocious but she won't do anything about it cause no matter how many games she sets poorly she's never taken out, if one of the outsides has a bad game they are taken out but she never is. Nebraska is going to get no where in the tournament because of it.
NEB was very off this match. I think that Indiana needed to win it simply so that the Huskers' coaching staff would change the lineup. NEB's players are very talented, but as a team, they aren't playing like they should be. There lacked connection, and felt as if they were a messy high school team. Nice job to them for pulling out the win, but as far as the Huskers are concerned, they need a change to be made. Lexi Sun hadn't been practicing as hard as some others, but she can be lethal- but because of her benching, she seemed almost rusty. Lauren is a natural middle with a lethal slide attack, but some of her sets were very middle school level- I get that sometimes it's just a bad set, but you can't have a bad day in volleyball. The coaching staff should've benched Hames for a few points just like they did Kubik- good call on subing Kubik out. Lexi R. had a nice match, as did Batenhorst. The two really stepped it up this match. Knuckles did what she needed to, but she didn't go above and beyond, same with Akana, both DS' needed to step it up-however they did pull through. Krause is a natural opposite, did a nice job, she had some unforced errors, but sometimes that's just part of it. And as for the commentators- what happened to Karch, Paul, Katie, Selima, etc... these two guys were not it.
We love Nicklin Hames but her sets has been very bad lately. Outsides were running to the ball because the sets are way too close and right sides were too far and off the net. Krause couldn’t hit well. Her bump sets were really off tonight. Overall Nebraska looked very disorganized.
#4 on Indiana had too many service errors into the net. Switched momentum too much. This could have been a 5 set match if she had not had those service errors in the 3rd.
ummm we did not watch the same match then… on ur home floor when ur up 18-11 and miss a serve, the momentum is forsure still on your side u just have to side out. that’s what they couldn’t do. Lexi Sun in that moment absolutely stepped up and won the match for them. getting 6 points (not consecutive, by kill or ace) to end the match
u cant compare kenzie’s defense to lexi. and lexi’s defense is good for a 6 rotation player, but if u have the chance to have a defense specialist in the back row who can get some kills when they need her to get one, then that’s why kenzie is in.
@@jld7732 same goes for Kubik in that case. Anyway i am more frustrated with the setting. When hitters can’t score well the setter should be changed. I am not saying the setter is always to blame but at least try out something new
to be fair, i was at the game, and the passes were pretty off, and i think it has to do with them warming up serve receive and passing it to the middle of the front row rather than where a setter is “supposed” to be (right front). hames did the best she could with the passes given to her, and i’m more upset at the hitters giving up on the set even though it wasn’t perfect.
indiana took the first set cause of nebraska’s missed serves and they did better at serve receive. nebraska didn’t serve receive badly, but indiana had better perfect serve receive passes and usually converted them into kills
I just wish these commentators could pronounce names properly but if you're complaining about them you must not watch a lot of volleyball because they're only mid level awful lol. I like John Cook making changes on the fly and that's something they'll need to do to make it to the championship. They have a lot of amazing athletes at NEB but its not gonna be the same lineup every time based on the other side of the net. They just needed to serve tougher to get IU out of system so they couldn't run their middle because she was killin it. NEB looks great and this is what you expect to some degree going into the tourney
I love watching Lexi play. I hope that she can continue being a super senior! GBR 🔴🏐
