- In this video, I demonstrate how to create, save, and embed Key Switch Presets for 3rd party virtual instruments in PreSonus Studio One 5.0 and above.
In addition, we also take a look at how to upload & download Key Switch presets using the recently updated PreSonus Exchange platform.

Come on Marcus we need a whole lot more studio One 5 coming out of your shop they’re the only ones so I can understand
Great video, thank you !
Sidenote, offtopic: would like to see te ability to upload stuff to Exchange within S1, uploading through Presonus account is cumbersome workflow imo.
Thanks Marcus, nice and very interesting/informative video! Keep up the good work!
This gotta be one of the features that I'm most excited about in v5. Thanks for covering!
The biggest selling point for me. Massively important with the implementation :) thanks for the vid. Subbed.
Is this now somewhat redundant with 5.2 and sound variations? If so will you do a video on this please.
I would have taken so long to figure this out!!!!
Glad you started with this feature. It's a big selling point for me to get an upgrade from 3.5. Just need Windows 10 now lol.
Im happy that its been added, as well :)
Cheers, M 🍻
Windows 10 is still free
What do you think about "Ultiimate Articulation Engine by ultimate midi plugin"? It looks good.
Very well explained, thank you!!
Superb Tutorial pal, new sub here ... cheers
Thanks. Very helpful.
key switch studio one 5.5 not finding
i know this is a late reply, but for anyone like me reading this in the future and wondering the same thing, they are still there but the section is now called "Sound Variations"
The fact they are triggered before the beginning of the midi notes is HUGE !!
Glad for your video.
Is it possible to do this with EastWest Play (for Hollywood Strings)
I love your channel you are the Men .your voice it always on my mind when am using Studio One.
Can you by chance to do one video explaining. How to use the Key switches using EZBASS. ? Thanks you a lot and peace from Morocco 🇲🇦 🙏 ❤️ 😊 🎉
What about the plugins that have tons of key switches? eg) Shreddage 3 offers full keyboard articulations and inputting each key switch is torture. Plus, the key switch input pop-up doesn't allow to input without off the plugins, so you have to on/off the pop-up window. Is there a better way to input? Thanks.
Marcus
Any plans to update this video with the new features new in 5.2?
Unfortunately, this video is outdated and no help for studio one 5. This is frustrating
Let me clarify when I click on the wrench tool. My key switch editor looks nothing like yours.
That's great. Thanks for the info!
v good. thanks marcus
Wow!! Thank you!! :-)
When I saw v.5 was coming out I thought to myself 'I'll wait until Marcus' videos'. So I'm looking forward to more before I press the button. This alone has got me tempted. Clip gain is dragging me towards it as well. Thank you!
Clip gain is only function that I like, rest is irrelevant to me.
Spent the last two days trying to research this very subject using Kontakt instruments. Not a lot of good info around. Thank you very much
Marcus is the best among the rest
@@slowbrain8869 LOL - You're making me blush - Beer's are on me!! Cheers, M 🍻
You're welcome!! Cheers, M 🍻
@@slowbrain8869 Totally agree: Marcel, together with Gregor from Presonus: my 2 favo S1 tut makers.
Great video! Would you also demo how this is used during composition during playback? Coming fm live audio performance world, this keywswitchings seems like magic to my ears! Maybe high time to visit Presonus Studio One. How different is it in use from other MIDI oriented DAW like Logic X? 25 years in Pro Tools makes me feel tad stagnant with MIDI utility. :)
Thanks for the vid. Any idea how to delete a preset you no longer need? Deleting from the keyswitch folder in my documents does nothing to remove them from the list which is getting cluttered
I've go the same problem and haven't yet found a solution
Would've like to see the keyswitches in action with Kontakt showing them changing articulation.
Yeah - You're right.. I should have done that... i was just trying to cover as much ground as possible without making the video too long. Thanks for your feedback :)
Cheers, M 🍻
Goodness this is a useful feature. Just came to Presonus today from FL Studio. This will save me countless hours of configuing and MIDI channel assignments for articulations for an instrument. This alone is worth the switch to Presonus. Really appreciate your clear and usefult TUT.
As usual, great video!
Nice. But what about the staff ? Is the key switches going to appear in the staff ? I Hope It`s not. Cheers !
Anyone interested in a version 4 professiional? I'm working on film scores too but de 170 euro update is way too expensive for me...but this would help my scores much.
Did Presonus give you a chance to use SO5 before it launched? Or did you scramble to make this video after it did? Very good video, BTW - as always.
This feature is GREAT and you explained it perfectly. Subscribed
Thanks Marcus and Presonus! One issue, though, is when you need two key-switches activated simultaneously. Is it possible currently?
Absolutely the best tutorial I’ve yet seen on key switches. Covering not just. How to use them, but presets and even getting and contributing pre-built presets from the cloud.
It's very good that PreSonus did this. We've been asking for this for six years. We expected more, but PreSonus gave Us the most primitive tool for working with articulations and dynamics. I'm sorry, they didn't do anything to work with dynamics. Well. Let's wait another couple of years. :-)
Dynamics are generally done with VSTi by creating two lanes and using continuous controllers 1 & 11.
Thanks Marcus, this was really helpful. I just tested it out on a string library patch and it worked beautifully. Quick and easy to set up too. Cheers!
Excellent - I'm happy the video helped, and I'm also glad it worked for you :)
Cheers, M 🍻
Hey Marcus, This was a "needed" great video!!! Thank you for all you do! One question... do you offer any kind of one-on-one "programming" tutorial for Studio One 5 users like me??? There are several areas of work-flow and functionality that I desperately need lessons on... just a question. Best regards. Art Phinney.
If Marcus isn't available who knows his stuff, there's another chap called "Tim talks audio". (I haven't used him however).
Let's go v5!!!!!
Glad about this feature and the way it's implemented
Yes, my friend!! Me too 🍻 M
Finally, after a looong wait we have an articulation editor in S1! While fairly basic (no CC's, only note-on's), this is VERY welcome. I love its brilliant simplicity and intuitive handling so typical for S1. The save instrument together with keyswitch preset option seems also very useful. Thank you Marcus, Thank you Presonus!
Guess they'll be saving CC ones for 5.5
Aren't CC already covered in the MIDI automation track?
Thanks man, this is cool with the ujam stuff too
Awesome! I haven’t checked out the UJam stuff yet.
@@marcushuyskensmusic it's easy peazy.
Thanks again Marcus, great!
You’re welcome Jerome!
Cheers, M 🍻
Thanks marcus. Great tips! Do you think its possible to create a custom looping command that would create/arm/record a new take/audiotrack with every pass of the loop, while also playing the previous takes/audiotrack?
Hmmmm - Im not sure im understanding what you want to accomplish..
Can you give me some more details?
Cheers, M 🍻
Thanks. I would like implement a command that would sort of work like a “sound on sound” looper of a audio track. With the loop active, every pass of the loop would create/record a new audio track, while playing the previous track. For instance, if i enable the loop of a audio track(with takes to layers selected), it will create different layers with every pass of the loop. The only difference is, i would like to hear the previous layer while its recording, so i can quickly stack different pieces of audio on top of each other. If you’ve ever worked with a guitar looping pedal that stacks sounds on top of each other with every pass of the loop, its a very similar idea. Thanks for your time.
Bob Lil - The following macro i made worked fine for versions 3 and 4. havent tried on 5 yet. hope it helps. Macro : Transport|Record State ("0")
greg vartholomeos great thanks!
Do you think there is anyway to create a midi trigger that automatically lines up at the very end of every pass so its perfectly in sync?
