Freezing fruit also facilitates extraction. Ruptures cell walls allowing easier extraction (us wine makers have known this for decades). If you don't know about steam canning yet it would behoove you to familiarize yourself with it (if time is constantly your most common challenger).
This is a new venture for me, I have recently started canning fruit juice and fruit, am waiting for my pressure canner to arrive and am now looking to start steam juicing. I grow my own fruit and veg in my modest terraced house garden, but I also buy fruit and veg to supplement our supplies or make the most of bargains. Last week I bought 6 punnets of large blackberries for a pittance from the 'last date' isle - those punnets were set to be discarded by the store. I am about to make another batch of blackberry syrup - I make some a little thicker and use it to make 'blackberry ripple' ice cream. I use the finer ones for drinks. These are great skills to have, to make the most of produce available. Thank you for the grape juice demonstration, it was excellent!
Excellent dream juicer info, thank you! I’m at it now, about 30-40 pounds of grapes this year, concord, muscadine and Catawba. I don’t use sugar and it’s delicious! I appreciate your details. Much love! 🍇❤️
Just bought this Euro Cuisine today on the labor day sale through Wayfair! Excited to try it. I make alot of jams, jellys and fruit beverages. My current method of juicing leaves a very cloudy juice even after straining, I'm hoping this will leave it nice and clear!
Hi, used my steam juicer for the first time today ...used your video for instruction as none came with the steamer. We picked a bucket of grapes which was exactly the correct amount for the steamer and we got nearly 5 litres of juice! It's delicious and the most gorgeous colour. There's heaps more grapes on the vine too 😁 Very happy, thanks for your help 👍 Great tutorial! Do you have a video for your grape jam?
Our Little Homestead! You don't need much. You can use the stuff you can buy to keep fruit from Browning too. I forget what it is called but you may fined it in either the produce sections or the canning supplies sections of some stores!
Hello... I'm wondering if the steam juicer would work with eldeberries. They have tiny seeds and are yummy berries. They are a pain to squeeze they Cheesecloth. I would love it if this device would work. Thanks!
Is there a difference in the kind of juice produced by using a steam juicer, and by just boiling up fruit with water in a pan? We make a lot of wine from wild berries and fruit, for which we use the boiling method but this looks way neater!
The high temperatures from the steam literally force the cells of the fruit to burst and part with their juice. You generally get more juice from steam juicing than any other domestic method.
In your video you mentioned making Jelly. Do you use the Mash to make the Jelly? I always have wondered what I can do with the mash. If you have a video on how to do it that would be awesome. Thanks great video
Nataly Wood you can dehydrate it and make it into a powder. Use the powder to make juice garnish your dinner plates... anything you can imagine. Good for desserts too.
You use the juice to make the jelly. The mash can be turned into butter or sauce or chutney. If you have a dehydrator you can turn it into fruit leather or fruit powder too. And if you know anyone with chickens the chickens will gobble it up.
Hello! I’m loving your videos! I have a question actually about your liquid laundry soap recipe. How much do you use per load when you mixed the concentrate in the gallon and then fill the other half with water? On your video I didn’t catch where you said how much to use. I have it in my 5 gallon bucket and will be ready to mix tomorrow. So exciting!
If kept in bucket a 1/4 cup of the concentrated version...if put in the 1 gallon jugs filled half way with water, I use 1/2 cup per reg load. If using the powdered version I use 1 Tbs per reg load. I hope this helps! i think the liquid cleans best and both are good for HE machines.
I have this steamer but it doesn't work for tomato juice - it comes out near clear and zero pulp... Have you actually made tomato juice with this steamer? For all fruits it's super easy to make juice that can be used as concentrate for drinking and also for jelly making. This is the BEST steamer. I'm really glad i have it because I could never consume all the fruit my orchards grow.
That is a very good question, I’d think the cell walls of pomegranates would not split and open like grapes would and they would be best pressed - it’s a good question
Yes, wondering the same since steaming is already sterilising the juice... Why does it need a second bath.? It seems that even your juice is tasty, you have killed any vitamins. Thanking you for any feedback
Never knew about a juicer before till now. I have a question is this juice concentrated where you add water to it in another container or you drink as is after it's been water bathed and you take off the shelf? I know you said you'd be making jelly so I was assuming it's concentrated? If you were to make just juice to drink and you had to add water then how much do you add?
It's concentrated but I add about 1/2 cup water per quart ...I like a strong flavor though. For jelly making I keep it as is. ALso, different fruit has different strengths...it' all in your taste buds.
@@missreynolds3637 You're welcome... I found a video from my last canning/steaming grape juice session I meant for my CANNING 101 Training Series...I'm editing it now...give me a day and I'll post it. Very good in teaching how to use a steam juicer! And, its fun!
@@OurLittleHomestead Do you add the juice back in to make the jam with the pulp? Would love to see a video of what you do with the grapes/fruit pulp after you have steamed them/how to do it
Why not just press the juice, let it settle a bit then put it in jars and then water bath. Seems like a huge waste of energy to steam them to get the juice out vs just pressing them then can them. We just press our pomegranates then do the water bath canning. About 10 gallons per year.
You can do either. This is concentrated juice. I add equal amounts water to juice when I use it for drinking. When I make jelly I don't dilute it at all for best flavor

That is a great suggestion to freeze fruit beforehand, I suspected this but you confirmed - you wine makers are smart!!!
Had some dried cherries reconstituted in hot water then juiced like this. Then fermented. Best wine in a long time.. Like forever.
wow

Someone suggested adding some marbles into the bottom section so when they start to bang around you know the water is getting low
That is brilliant. Thanks!
I found one made in Finland in 1977 for 5$ at garage sale. Needed to order new hose and clamp/hanger so for 30$
Score! I paid $40 for mine
I just bought a new hose too.
Thank you so much for all the information!

I love my juicer 💕💕💕 great video
Love it thanks for sharing
Thanks for sharing this with us.
Love this video...you explain and show how beautifully! Would love to make the grape butter...wher can I find that video or recipe? Much appreciated!
do NOT lift the lid while cooking! the pressure/vacuum is gone and the air between the fruit is disappearing!
Also with the vinegar it helps to brighten up your juice and keeps it a stable color.
Will vinegar change the taste of the juice?? Make it more sour?
Our Little Homestead! You don't need much. You can use the stuff you can buy to keep fruit from Browning too. I forget what it is called but you may fined it in either the produce sections or the canning supplies sections of some stores!
Great suggestion - I’d not have thought of that - does the juice taste like vinegar at all?
Great video just got a juicer and definitely checking out your recipes and your channel .😊👍

Yes! I used my butter/fine cotton linen on bottom of strainer. Steam for in enough over time to make it work.
Brilliant !!
So do you have to waterbath your juice..can it just be stored in the fridge in glass jars.
Mine just came threw the mail . Pulled my muscadines out of freezer and away I went , so easy got 4qu. In no time.
So you have a video where you use the old lemonade jars? Curious how you seal those.

Do you have a video for using the left over skins for making grape butter
What brand is your steam juicer? I have two older ones that use a hose. I like the spigot better.
The spigot does look like a better option. I guess she could always add a tube to the end to lower it to her mason jars to prevent splatter.
She says at the end Euro Cuisine.

Are you canning the juice to make jelly later?
Does canning the juice change the color and taste? I freeze my juice to make jelly at a later date.

Do you add water when drinking is that more just concentrated? if you add water how much/
Do you have a video for making tomato juice with the juicer?
How do you know when it is done? I would think if you keep adding water, the juice would be diluted at some point. Is there a rule of thumb?
The water goes in the bottom for steaming, not with the juice.
Does putting the vinegar in effect the taste?
Ok so this is a concentrate grape juice right? When serving is it a one to grape juice to 1 water ratio?
Can we use this for pomegranates
That is a very good question, I’d think the cell walls of pomegranates would not split and open like grapes would and they would be best pressed - it’s a good question

Wondering why it needs the water bath once jarred. Can’t it just go straight into the fridge?
Yes, wondering the same since steaming is already sterilising the juice... Why does it need a second bath.? It seems that even your juice is tasty, you have killed any vitamins. Thanking you for any feedback
I used this steamer and did not water bath. Lids cooled and sealed fine.
Is this juice or juice concentrate? When you drink it do you water it down or how do you use this

How much does the juice get diluted by the steam?
That’s my question exactly, I’d like to see a comparison with a masticating juice to compare volume
Thanku. What did u do to d pulps after juicing? Can u drink d juice as it is or add more water?
It is more concentrated, I would add water to children's drinks to thin and either way for adult juice. I used the pulp for jam making.
@@OurLittleHomestead Do you add the juice back in to make the jam with the pulp? Would love to see a video of what you do with the grapes/fruit pulp after you have steamed them/how to do it

yes!

No need to water bathe as the juice is sterile, going into sterile jars.
WHERE DID YOU GET YOUR STEAMING POT?
Ebay! I got the second one from Ebay as well.
where did you get yr juicer?

Hi how long does it remain intact ? How many times can be open the lid .
1-4 years in dark cool dry area ... once lid is open...put in fridge and use up within a week.
Haha
You actually don’t need to water bath can the juice. You can open kettle can the juice and it will be just fine.
I don't like nutmeg.
...and I'm allergic to it with my meds!
Our Little Homestead! Yuck to allergies.
