Man, I wish more musicians did tutorials for their songs, this is just awesome
Yeah its great but because youtube and company doesnt want you to copy the musicians they accept the wrong chord progression over the original which the musicians make , but yeah I agree
It's a pretty easy song to figure out. Just need to look up what key it's in it will be the chord it starts or ends on.
John Mayer do this too
Tim Henson from Polyphia did a cool tutorial for G.O.A.T. Of course it doesnt concern me because I'm a decade from being able to play that but I guess it was useful for somebody.
John Mayer
I don't play guitar but that was just beautiful to see you playing. We miss your music man. So much oh my lord... Mike, really, we need you. You're my icon for the rest of eternity. ❤
Based 🤝 He’s been my role model for as long as I can remember. It’s always been like, “He’s a class act of the man I’d like to grow up to be.” Hell, because I’m detail oriented, I even studied Mike’s speech pattern because of how well he chunks information, and makes it easy for the listener to pay attention to.
@@derekrose3328wow I'm quite impressed ma friend. Also he deserves to be a role model of a real man. Cause he's the one actually)
FYI he still is making music
@@Obie. I'm not American so what is FYI? He does. I hope we get more. Like you know... pff.
@@moonshelter3448Fyi = for your information.
I never imagined as a teenager that 20+ years later we'd be able to watch these types of videos and interact with the music/musicians that made us 🧡
❤😂 yeah a shocker 😮😮😮😮
I know! UA-cam has really changed how we interact with musicians, I think it's a great thing to show young people that you can be just like him if you work hard
Seriously. I was just wondering what my 12 year old self would think about watching this on a smartphone and Chester being gone
@@psplayer1344 I wish I had gotten to see them live when Bennington was around. So many opportunities squandered
The fact that he asked his fans to point out any mistakes he made shows how humble he truly is. Absolute legend
😊😊
Linkin parks music is a medicine for the soul and mind
It just connects always instantly
Too bad the Hybrid Theory fans kill Linkin Park
@@saajidroussoulle Why can't handle the truth that you people took him away
@@saajidroussoulle That's why I'll never call myself a Linkin Park Fan This band is dead because it's fans didn't like the fact that the band wanted to change and to be better The truth is the truth And I'm not counting Chester's problems
@@comicbookfanrebirththey didn't what he did was tragic don't make stupid theorys about it
@@comicbookfanrebirthconspiracy theorists 🙄
Oh my, been playing guitar for a while and it's often really hard to get these minor details right when covering a song. Getting a lesson on them straight from a band member is amazing, and I've never seen anyone do such an "official" tutorial before! 🤯
Agreed, I have always wanted to sit down with Brad or Mike and ask specifically how something is played, and how wrong tabs and tutorials are, because while we know the notes, there's little nuances that every guitar player has that we usually miss. This way we know them and can play it exactly as it was recorded, like I didn't know about the top 2 in standard tuning in One Step Closer for the second pre-chorus. I could never get that sound right
The only band I(member) I've ever seen do this is Tye Zamora, the bass player from Alien Ant Farm. On his YT channel you has bass tutorials for almost every AAF song.
Really? They used to be common back in the day in guitar magazines, but yeah I wish more bands did this.
@@Mariooo57 I guess that I'm too young to know that. 😀 Or it just wasn't that popular around here.
@@Isti115 Yeah it's a bit a thing of the past now with UA-cam and the likes. Guitarists used to have videos called "masterclass", where they would show off their skills and that sometimes included a break down of their own band's songs.
Mike, please do more of these "official" tutorials. THIS has never been done before and it's very innovative.
I guess you've never heard of Guitar World magazine.
I mean theres plenty of artist who share how to play their songs, Metallica is on yousician, RHCP did a bts dvd
I love how Mike can let plenty roll off of him, some things he does hold onto, but for this, he drew A Line In The Sand, and said, “Alright I can’t take this you guys,” 🤣👏🤝
I love that you included the "you guys" in there
@@sympostersyndrome So key for any Mike quote, and I’m laughing because you picked up on that nuance 🤣🙌
He said "I cannot take this anymore"
I like to think that the reason that "a line in the sand" isn't only with lowercase letters because your keyboard already knows that's a song name xD
@@LuLeBe You’re the best 🤝🤗 It’s funny because I went for a double entendre: I’m a person who likes to write down what fails and what goes right as I work towards specific things; as a result of that, I have about ~12,000 notes in my phone.
While I don’t make music, Linkin Park & individual members are huge inspirations to me and my work. As I’ve gone along quoting various things from them?
My phone in fact HAS learned what things I want to be capitalised related to them. But! Sadly this is a time where my phone DIDN’T know what I wanted! Being that that’s my #4 Linkin Park song off my 2nd favorite record (‘Reanimation’ is my #1 Linkin Park record) I was like, “Oh come ON phone! You know that’s important..! How many times has that been mentioned in a note by now!” 💀🤣👏
I love how much fun internet Mike is having in this new age
My band is doing a 12 song cover set on Halloween and I chose for us to play this (actually I suggested Papercut, but we collectively came around to One Step Closer). You just happened to post this video exactly as my guitarist needed it, how did you know? Thanks for 20+ years of amazing music Mike!
Good luck at the show!
@@chandlerbraaten847 Thanks man, it actually ended up being a Friday the 13th show and you commented in the middle of us playing. It went amazingly, 1.5 hours of full crowd singalongs and good times
As someone who has an acoustic guitar but never learned anything past basic chords (but have always wanted to), this is FASCINATING.
That's more than I can do. Hell I don't even really know what a chord is. I mean I think it's like a sequence of notes that make a melody or something? But I dunno
Of course I can obviously look it up but in any case if you like playing the guitar then you should keep playing just because you like it and maybe you'll get better
and be able to do a lot more. Remember that Bruce Lee first had to crawl before he could rip out someone's live beating heart with his bare hands.
@@mrsticky005we usually perceive chords as creating the harmony upon which the melody develops
Damn u used a lot of words to basically say that u own a guitar but u never bothered to learn to play guitar
@@christtwitch4013 you used more words to complain about it than I did 😂😂😂
Mike is one in a million... A very talented musician... Like legit musician... Thank you for every songs
To sum up: The "little harmonic thing" leading into the chorus it's an overdub in standard tuning!
So tune to: *C# G# C# F# B E* .
The PC harmonic will be top 2 strings, 4th fret. 🎸
Enjoy fellows guitarists! 🐺
Love seeing Mike and the guys just hanging out, interacting with fans and discussing music. It's like refined, matured LPTV. Cheers you guys.
This is so cool Mike your so sweet to do this for your fans!!!
You are making me wanna learn guitar Mike 😂 thank you for doing this though ❤
yeah seeing Mike play it I wanna learn it too😁
Do it.
it's very easy you will see 😉✌
i started playing guitar by accident. its really fun hobby that only gets better the more you do it
Mike is so talented, his ear for melody is impeccable
Mike pls teach us more!! 😭😭
Linkin Park miss me so much !!!
I had a chance to see them live, it was wonderful !
All of their albums are a really masterpiece !
Thank you Mike, Chester, Brad, Joe, Rob and Dave !
Your art will be never forgotten !
I just wanna say that that Hybrid Theory is the masterpiece. And as always, just like a good wine (or good puer tea), it only gets better and better with ages. Can't believe this record sounds as if it was recorded yesterday.
I quite find it funny that the kids who were born when this album was made are already adults with jobs and possible kids of their own. Time flies so fast!
@@RbFranco1 indeed!
I love the passion here. No other artist I follow cares so much about the music about sharing it about teaching it. Music isn’t just a job for Mike it’s clearly an obsession and I love that
Now this. This is a gift. Having the musicians who actually wrote the song teach you how to play it is so refreshing. If I try to learn a song on guitar, I have 4 different tablatures and 10 different videos BECAUSE EVERYONE PLAYS IT DIFFERENTLY and I end up frankensteining my own version that I think is right. Much Mahalos Mike.
This is the kind of thing that interests me the most. I love seeing the musician play their own songs and explain how they do it. It's fascinating to me! :)
I don't know how many artists teach their fans how to correctly play their music, for free, but this is awesome!!! I love this guy!!!
Like, honestly, this makes me want to learn how to play guitar
никогда не думал, что мой кумир подскажет мне, как играть свои песни! 🙂🙂🙂 Спасибо Майк! 🤘
The legend himself, beying a great teacher. ❤
You are such a sweet, patient & kind teacher. You're just a beautifully humble and personable human being. Thank you, just for being you! You're an amazing person Mike and I truly appreciate your wholesome goodness and chill energy. Good vibes all around. God Bless ypu Sir and take care. Much Love & Respect.....always & Forever. Xoxo
Gotta ❤ Mike for taking the time to teach the correct way to play. Guitar lessons with Shinoda...EPIC!! ❤
I have just started learning guitar and here comes one of my inspirations with a tutorial 😂❤ thanks Mr. Mike, long way ahead for me but keep these acoustic tutorials coming. We would love more from the most versatile artists to ever exist!👀💯
it is so good to see your childhood hero is doing well and talking about the music you still like a lot
The best Mike Shinoda!!! ❤
Missing Mike (and the guys too) with his live streams ☹️
This is awesome to see the artist give a tutorial. A lot of us normally have to do a lot of guess work. This is a life saver
Your respect and admiration for LP fans is absolutely legendary. Right on Mike! Thanks for this.
Linkin Park will forever be my favorite band, and its a joy to see videos from Mike be it his own solo music, or tutorials like this.
This is awesome! You don't even know how many guitar tutorials I've watched on your music, thank you so much Mike ❤
Thanks for everything ❤
Thanks Mike🙌 We love you ❤️
so crazy i just happened to be learning more Linkin park riffs today on youtube and this one pops up! Thanks Mike!
Mano, incrível Mike, vc é incrível
And this folks is why LP is one of the GREATEST Bands of ALL TIME!!! Mikes a fkn genius flat out plain & simple!!
Mike, we need more guitar tutorials from you.
Mike, you are a living legend. I was fighting through some brutal O.C. traffic last week and listening Post Traumatic the whole time made the drive amazing. Thank you for all that you do for your fans and for yourself.
Awwww i feel you genuinely love teaching others! Your so smiley and happy 😊. Love you Mike
Miło Cię widzieć Mike 👍👍
Thanks for the video! Linkin Park was a huge influence for me to get into playing guitar and writing music and lyrics when I was 15. And it stuck with me ever since! Thank you Linkin Park for being an inspiration and an awesome band for everyone for over 20 years now!
One step closer has a sweet spot in my heart. Thanks to you guys I’m an insane metalhead and almost everywhere I go I have the LP soldier necklace to never forget where it all started 🫡
I have that necklace too!
@@moonlight2487 hey man by any chance do you know how to clean it???
@jmichi03 I've been trying to figure that out too.
Linkin Park aren’t metal
You know what Mike don't apologize. Take solice in the facts you guys are amazing creative musicians. I love the fact that your willing to teach and create with us for us and for yourself's. I love seeing you smile and soaking in the nuances of these seemingly simple songs. I Still wish we could hear a full nu metal version of heavy .thank you
thanks for teaching us this classic!! I saw Silverstein do a cover of One Step Closer live back in May and it was the best part of the concert😂keep making history for us
Thanks Mike, nothing better than learnimg from the original creator!
Thanks for the OG lessons Mike! 😁
One of the first musics I learned to play in a band back in school... Nice to finally get all the details and sounds that we didn't know back then
You are unique, Mike. Thank you and Linkin Park for all the good that you have given to this world.
When I went to this video, a smile appeared on my face. It was unusual to see a guitar lesson from you).
Wish you luck, Mike. Thanks❤
Keep uploading tutorials! ❤
You guys were all so important to me even halfway round the globe. I'd steal my brother's CD and sneakily listen to LP songs on the computer after school because I didn't have another way to listen to them. It'd make my brother so mad but it's something, a memory that binds us together now, decades later literally.
God i freaking love Linkin Park. Still religiously listen to your songs!
Legend ❤️
Mike, you blew my mind with Brad’s part of Faint, I thought it’s being played differently. Looking forward to new videos❤
It was nice to see you Mike in such a live video!
We remember when LP was in our countrey with concerts, we remember world before the war. I hope our government will understand what they've done.
Everyone stay safe, let peace be with you.
From Russia with love!
Good to see you on Mike! Please keep posting! 👊🏼👊🏼
Ahhhhh Mike thank you so much, here in my family we really love you, it's such a pleasure to see you play and how sweet and kind you are with all of us, your fans ❤
Hey Mike, it's so good to see you. Thank you for everything you did for all of us 💯
Você é incrível Mike 😍😍
Nice guy Mike always there to help us out.
To This day , This Guy is so genuine - and still does these eyes reactions - i just love him
So cool to see you do tutorials 🤘🏿🤘🏿
I moved to America 20 years ago and spoke no English whatsoever, thanks to my fascination with their music learning this beautiful language was easy and fun, I must have listened to their show live in Texas over 100 times and everytime I watch it again it hits me hard with nostalgia and appreciation for their musicality. Great video Mike, you mean a lot to LP fans.
Ur the Best Mike, always the Best!!! 🖤🤘
I love this riff Mike 😍
I remember staying for hours in my room playing video games, listening to Linkin Park and playing guitar: One step closer, runaway, pushing me away, easier to run.. I was the angriest loneliest kid (social anxiety). I think guitar pro tabs were so accurate at that time!
I would love to see more tutorials like this!
So beautiful! Thank you mike 🥹🥹🥹 we love and miss seeing you around!
There was some very good vibe in this video. I had a smile on my face during the entirety of this video.
PLEASE MIKE do more of these videos!!!
What mostly interests me is Bleed it Out (Brads Part). Soooo many videos strum the B and E strings simultaniosly but the original Song differentiates the notes of B and E so much, that I think the "correct" way can be to only pick B or E.
This is awesome. I hope tiktok feeds you more incorrect guitar lessons so we can get more lessons like this 😂
Oh yeahh! Mike's tutorial! It's so great!
Love you mike ! We need more of this pls !!
Sooooo Cool...Thank you Mike!!😁😎🔥
Awesome!!!!!!
Thank you.....🙏❤️your band is one of the greatest bands ever
I wonder if this could be a series.
I also would have to learn how to play guitar to understand everything. But it’d still be a pretty cool series 🤌
I don't play guitar but always a pleasure to listen to Mike play!
Hey Mike ❤️
Mike is so chill guy. A good human being👍🏻
Mike, my one and only LP concert was 2004 Project Revolution Tour with The Used, Less Than Jake, Snoop, Korn, and you guys over in Tampa. I will never forget the entire concert and whrn Jonathan Daves came out to sing One Step Closer with you guys. Truly memorable moment!!! After that I saw Chester with Stone Temple Pilots in which to this day still one of the most unforgettable concerts for me. The reason why? He couldn't hold his screaming and would scream into some of the chorus parts and then apologize for the screaming. What an amazing person that he was. And then finally I saw you and Mr. Hahn at the House of Blues in Orlando after Chester passed.
Thank you for helping me throughout some of the most difficult times of my lifes which includes depression, when I kept being bullied, and more. LP lyrics has always being there for me and many others. Love your side project Fort Minor as well Mike!
Какое прекрасное время, Майк учит, как правильно играть. Вот для этого я и плачу за интернет. Mike ❤
Please do more of these Mike. You are encouraging folks in India. Do some guitar lessons, share your music-songwriter wisdom, blossom hobbyists like me. Loads of love.
I hope you and family and everyone are well! That was great, love hearing your advice and I've heard the octave difference before on covers. Lots of love LP!!
OMG... You are so AWESOME!! I've been wanting the actual bands to do these tutorial videos for so long!! I don't know why this isn't more of a thing... Seems like there could be a lot of money to be made there 😁
Insane levels of talent
Scrolling UA-cam: “Wait he looks familiar”
Thank you Mike for the tutorial, I will definitely use this when I get better at playing guitar!
Such a kind and humble great artiste ever. Miss those days.
Mike, your an amazing artist Bro. Keep making em!
Mike, thank you for your work for LP and thanks to all the other guys who made my time so much easier by listening to such good music, and thanks so much for being so awesome towards the community :) We sure love to see what other Material you still have from old Record Sessions, and we also like to see your tutorials and behind the scenes, youre just awesome!
Спасибо, Майк! ❤❤❤
Gostei muito! Você é um bom instrutor. Hehehe
Fantastic guitar lines, absolutely the pinnacle of great music. Thanks to you and your whole band for the catchy riffage, along with Chester. God bless brother. Timeless music.
