- Step By Step guide to installing MQTT on Home Assistant
MQTT, stands for Message Queuing Telemetry Transport is a light way of exchanging messages between devices, like Smart plugs & other Internet of Things devices like Tasmoto Smart devices. To use this you will need to install an MQTT Broker to handle routing of messages &, install an MQTT Intergration.

Great, to the point, tutorial. Thank you!
Great video. When doing the "self configuration" it was setting a massive password and I couldn't change it. This fixed that issue. Massive thanks.

Amazing video, how would I find the MQTT broker URL to connect with fully kiosk using MQTT?
hi dear thanks for your excellent video, how can I reconfigure my Eufy entities?
top !
I've been pulling my hair out trying to figure out why my Tasmota devices no longer worked in Home Assistant. The Solution was here in your video.
THANK YOU!!!
However in my case even though I added "mqtt_user" to my HA user accounts, and changed my MQTT user to "mqtt_user" as you suggested, it would not work even when I restarted.
What I managed to get working now is using the default user name "homeassistant" in MQTT and a very long default password it supplied.
So It at least now works when I changed all my Tasmota devices to reflect this.
BUT What if I want to use the "mqtt_user" and my own password??
Thank you again for this great tutorial..
i get the same issue. if anyone knows something about this ?
i am adding HA to my existing IoT landscape, meaning i already have an MQTT-broker/mosquitto running on my NAS in docker. Domoticz is reading and storing my smartmeter's electricity and gas values and also publishing these to mqtt. NodeRed is subscribed and accumulates and formats the values to be sent to InfluxDB.
I would like HA to subscribe as well, so i can have them on a dashboard. Adding the MQTT integration is simple enough, no need for a broker. Getting data in the configuration screen also works when a topic is entered in the Listen field. But nothing is added as devices, but for the Tasmota switches, which were discovered, even the ones not currently connected to my network :-/ and Tasmota integration was also auto added.
I've tried adding a mqtt sensor via yaml but not getting anywhere with that either. Docs are not easy to follow i wthout examples i have to say
update: another try in adding the mqtt sensors config manually, finaly got them working, dropping the json msg for a single value in kWh or m3.
How to setup MQTT SSL?
nice tutorial, this is what i've searched for. i have a question, in tasmota device in mqtt configuration part what should i fill in broker column should i enter ip address e.g 192.168.1.xxxx or core-mosquitto ??
thx
How do you say with us? "Many roads lead to Rome" :-))
I had to put Home Assistant's IP address AND username and password in the Mosquitto addon, otherwise it didn't work.
Guys any idea why I am experiencing the same issue like on the video "Failed to connect" same happening once filled up manually with "core-mosquitto" and Mqtt created the user still not connecting.
getting a 500 error when installing mosquitto from the addon page,
Where am I installing this?
What is the page you are on? Is it google?
I was using Google Chrome on my laptop but can be used on a tablet then connect to your home assistant site.
