When I first watched your videos I thought your egg pfp was bizarre looking but enjoyed the egg puns and the high-quality of your videos, but as I watch more and more I see the egg as cute and I appreciate winding down my day watching these with your positive and friendly atmosphere.
Your "A STAB Four Times Super Effective" almost became a drinking game, but I would prefer not to die from alcohol poisoning. Poor Paras line, lol! I am just listening along and every time you said it I winced, because usually you get to say it when you land such an attack and delete some problem mon and I can feel the satisfaction, but this video turned that line against you and I heard the resignation.

You know nothing quite hits home how terrifying Parasect is like having that front view for most of the video. The kids in the Pokemon universe are nuts. Just walk around with a zombie bug that's being controlled by a giant shroom! Also my condolences for how difficult a run this was!
You know what Eggsceptional? Let me tell you. Despistes its many weaknessed and lack of speed, I do still like parasect, because it's insect type and good against psychic Pokemon. This alone makes it a nice Mon, for me! After all, we have to consider its resistances too. It's a tank against fighting, water and ground pokemon. I know, its double weaknesses are deadly, well let's just say it could have been given better defenses, speed and HP. That's his problem.
I hope that this video didn't serve to try to pull people away from Parasect! Not at all! I just didn't have a good time running it is all. As a team player, or in a different region I see the potential of Parasect. Maybe :P As a solo runner in Kanto though.. Paras gets a big ol' "F" from this guy :D
Man, I do not envy you with this run. Tried using a Paras/Parasect before for an actual team playthrough and.. it just isn't good. The company did this dude dirty when they made him.
I'm interested to see how painful it is in another region. Kanto was not kind to Paras at all, I totally agree. I had to get it off the roster.. for now ;)
Hi :) somehow parasec feels strange, the brock split was faster in the second run, sure, but the others times were... meh r1 champ -6, but the other times didnt change from the brock time, or were even slower i mean, you improved the time, so gj, but... it has a bit of a bitter aftertaste well, maybe you were just unlucky in the second run
I agree. Seeing that barring the Brock split I actually ended up losing time over the remainder of the run was quite disappointing. The overall time save was fine, but being -2 at the end from the Brock split felt bad. I think it was lucky and my shear lack of ability to solve this problem. I had ideas for a third run.. but I need a break from this bug :P
The paras line is one of my favorite bug Pokemon lines and a Pokemon that comes to mind that gets a big buff not only due to the physical special split but the leap is great moves available. Does it still struggle against fire types and flying types? Yes, but a purely physical Adamant parasect with full attack ev training is nothing to scoff at.
I can imagine so yeah! I think I say think about every single Pokémon that I play, but I cannot wait to see how differently it plays in Gen 4. Parasect less so.. that would mean playing it again :P Maybe it can convert me.
I knew this run was gonna be difficult but gogdamn the pain in this run could be felt in every second of the vid but it was amazing to see and amazing that you didn't have go to level 100. Also my math could be really off here (figuring out probability is not my strong suit) but I think the chances of either the quick claw activating or fire blast missing is 29% and for dodging the first Gengar's hypnosis or the quick claw activating is 56% again I could be wrong cuz that doesn't seem right to me or I read the probability calculator wrong but yeah still rough odds. Looking forward to seeing how my favorite starter handles a solo run in Kanto, congrats on clearing this run and good luck with the Kanto Starters!
I think you're right about the probability. It should have been around that 1/3 range to happen against Charizard, but oh no. Not for this guy :P At least against Gengar things worked out reasonably quickly, but not that Charizard. Never that Charizard. I'm looking so forward to playing some Kantonian starters. Especially with the addition of egg moves and evolutions since the last time I played them :D
I could feel your pain every time that Charizard showed up. reminded me of my brother and his Charizard when we played Red and Blue haha I feel like all of them will do amazing but not counting my bias towards Venusaur I see Blastoise having the best run of the three, as far as egg moves for Venusaur go Magical Leaf is probably the best since it has more power points then Vine Whip and has almost double the power so that means less trips to the Pokémon Center, also it never misses and still has more power than Razor Leaf and the same base power as Giga Drain in gen 3 so I can see it being on the moveset for quite a while @@Eggsceptional

I actually had a Rhydon and Golem just because of my bro's Charizard haha speaking of I think I know which egg move you're gonna use hehe. Yeah if Petal Dance was at it's current base power in gen 9 I would consider it being worth the risk but at 70 base power its not really appealing. I really wish Venusaur could've gotten Leaf Blade but I know in Gen 3 it was supposed to be on the Secptile line as an exclusive for the gen 3 starters@@Eggsceptional

Honestly I'm not sure what else to put in that spot at the moment. I have plans for things like enemy stat blocks that update live, but it all takes time. It's like having the 2 sprites on screen. It's a little redundant, but I had to fill the space with something! Plus, I use the learn set for reference while running :P
Thank you! I use 2 pieces of software to alter my runs. First, the Universal Pokémon Randomizer to change my starter and allow for National Dex evolutions. Then, after getting my starter I save, pause the timer, and put my save file into PKHeX where I then alter the IVs/nature/add the egg move. I also set the electric barrier in Vermillion to being solved :)
I would like to see Parasect revisited... but AFTER you play some better pokemon lines. Maybe several months... or years... from now when you don't instinctively start twitching at hearing Parasect's name.
That's a fair point! I'd considered the Venusaur team, but it seems they were too busy giving everything Earthquake in the Round 2 league to add Sludge Bomb :P
Parasect is interesting pokemon to explore,but that typing is so bad with that awful speed. If only gen 1 badge boost would have been there to fix that speed issue 😅. Hack,even fury cutter would have helped out a lot , because of the power increase, but that can only be a thing in gen 2 or in gen 4. I believe that Parasect was meant to be a physical attacker more then a special one, because most of it's moves are physical. Even though having one special move in early game made a difference to the poor zombie mashrom. The funny thing is that parasect and Dugtiro shares the same base stat total,but I think Dugtiro maybe have a shot being the best worse pokemon maybe Shuckle won't be alone in that tier list after all 😂😂. The new overlay is really cool!Keep it up!
Ahh the badge boost. Taking awful Pokémon and making them run-able. It's something that I just haven't had the pleasure of playing with yet. There's no run button in Gen 1. I.. don't think I could.... Having Fury Cutter might have made for some interesting changes. Maybe? Charizard resisting it by 4x might have thrown a wrench in, but hey! I would have tried it. I didn't know that Parasect and Dugtrio shared the same BST! I'm seeing 80 base attack and 120 base speed... At least if I encounter problems with it I might be able to outspeed and Fissure my way through. Maybe? You're probably right. It'll be awful :P
@@Eggsceptional Fury cutter could have 2 shoted Charizard with the right rng with sword dance. But that is gambling, because that 95 accuracy is always there to remind you it exists. And yeah Dugtiro is bad, because of that hp stat but at least it can outspeed most Pokémon in the game,and then what? Ground moves are heavily nerfed because of Levitate. And with that in mind good luck with Agatha and Lance and Lorelei.😅🫡

I knew this run was going to be a struggle. At least you aren’t using a paras/parascect with dry skin that would give you an 8x/ octo weakness to fire though not like the dry skin ability exists in gen 3
What I would have given for Paras to be able to learn Rain Dance.. I feel like in the end game Dry Skin wouldn't have made any difference. We were getting one shot regardless :P

Eggcellent sir, Eggcellent, at last we got the ZomBugTing and I was not disappointed, not even a little, I genuinely thought it would be so much worse, possibly low thousands resets. but still we got a lot to unpack here. that 1st run from October, I see why you gave it up for several months and needed to recover, that R2 Charizard was appalling, how did it not miss after like 10 resets, that is madness, there must be something in the RAM to explain it because if that was you using fire blast it wold missed half the time, literally every other time would of missed for you, it doesn't make sense. the moveset jank was shocking as well, figuring out what you needed to make the zombie bug work was madness and I have a feeling we'll see that moveset again one day on something equally frustrating. I can't comment on the why you didn't try this strat or that strat because figuring this thing out is never easy and you kinda gotta wing it and make it up as you go and hope for the best. now the 2nd run, 1st, I thank you for your shout out and naming it ZomBugTing, it is a perfect name. I was going ask about choosing to face Charizard again but you covered that in the video and I gotta say fair enough to that. it keeps it consistent and allows us to see the difference between the runs and how it has been optimized and improved. I knew you'd go for psybeam for the egg move, it made sense and it made a massive difference, but I got to ask you about your choice of nature, naive is ok, but the loss of special defense for speed is way riskier than it needed to be considering your weakness to fire, yes it wasn't going to help in the R2, but you might of tanked a lower fire or ice move more readily and shaved off a reset or 2. I would of gone the opposite and had sassy nature, more special defense and less speed, you said you would never out speed the charizard or the aerodactyl, lean into it and invest in the defense and trust it to luck for those battles. your moveset choices were interesting, I have run a few Parasects over the years and never used secret power or return on it, even with swords dance. for the R2 and the Steelixeseses did you consider losing HP rock and having dig, I know its a little less powerful in terms of base power but it would of been super effective and you would of been underground to dodge any attack they make in the event they woke up and then relearn HP rock or something else maybe for Agatha afterwards, there is the chop and change capacity with moves like that for Parasect, it is a shame that moves like aerial ace are single use because it would be could to get back once its been lost. also I had a thought about R2 movesets and something popped up you might like. have you considered Facade? doubles in power when used by something a status like poison or burn, works like guts. it is TM 42 and you can get it on Island 5 from the memorial pillar, just bring the grieving guy some lemonade and he gives it. also for special Parasect, did you consider HP ice or water, I have been theory crafting and I think a special Parasect in R2 might make good use of it. might breed one and test it in an R2 myself to find out. good news physical Nidoking is finished and I can report that it runs essentially the same as special king, same resets and levels for the R1 and R2, the only difference is that R2 physical king made no new moveset upgrades because there was none that could be made, earthquake, rock slide, brick break and shadow ball is the best set. I am moving onto Queen now, I have my special queen caught and am about to get started, I shall report back how it does as a Nidorina until it gets crunch and the problems that come with that.
Thank you! Surprisingly this wasn't even my highest reset run. Still, it definitely had my temper flaring. I really tried not just winging it and I think that's what ultimately lead to my defeat with Parasect. There was no optimal path, only paths of lesser sucking :P Concerning the nature in the second playthrough I think I agree. Leaning into SpA for R1 just wasn't as viable as I'd hoped, and maybe just eggcepting the low speed and going +Atk might have been better too. With the amount of Earthquakes in Round 2 I didn't go for Dig no. Bruno's Hitmonchan in R2 is the only one without EQ. I would be interested in hearing about a more special Parasect run. I was thinking that leaning more into physical might be the way to go. But I do like physical sets. Awesome news with the Nidos! That's a gnarly set on King for R2. Pure coverage, you gotta love it. I'll be interested to hear more about Rina/Queen in the coming days! Concerning a race between the two I'm inclined to agree. Having the additional bulk on Queen I feel will be more useful than the additional attack on King. Rocky said it! It ain't about how hard you hit, it's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward. I've been thinking about the Gen 4 runs a lot lately. I just need to push through a little more FireRed content and I can fully devote myself into learning that game for a bit. No distractions, just playing and getting better. I'd love to start bringing them to the channel sooner than later, but there is a certain level of play/quality that I eggspect of myself. I like the idea of Magmar/Electabuzz but I don't see them happening for a little while yet. So many runs to do. So many. Masquerain will be a fun one I know we've discussed it before. Anything with Water coverage instantly gets better in my books. Yeah I'm feeling like I might have to devote some time to Mewtwo/Rayquaza again soon. I would like to really grind out some attempts with them to try for that sub hour run. Mewtwo for sure, Ray maybe. Special Ray has a lot of potential. Aerodactyl seemed to go for AA every time with Parasect I don't think I saw AP a single time. That would be a really interesting pair to run through the game actually. Incredibly slow and getting smacked around until defeating Blue, getting Trick Room, and being unstoppable. Ahhh Gen 4! I must get there faster! I really want to include GameHook integration as well, I know the team has been working on it for Gen 4. Feraligatr: Thank you again. I had a TON of fun with that run. Getting the flinch luck and Ice Beam freezes felt so glorious. I was really hoping that the Rage would guide me against Brock! Clearly that was a false pretense. It's true with the Defensive EVs they're all over the place in FR. Cycling Road is half Def, half Atk EVs. DD would have been fun to start with, but I'm sure I'll have a ton of fun re-doing this is Gen 4.
@@Eggsceptional you make a good point, winging it with Parasect is about as bad as optimal, it very much a matter of "the only way I win is the way lose" a lot of the time. you did well though, in both runs, it could of been a lot worse and I think the audience expected it, you did good. leaning into the special attack is good to an extent, in a normal run (no egg move, no optimal HP) its only real special is its STAB and since its STAB leaning into it just for that is not so necessary, either more attack or more defenses is better investment, I'd argue defenses as 6+ with Swords Dance for the R2 kinda takes care of that. I forget about earthquake, but here's the thing, as much as Parasect is quad weak to fire and flying, it does also quad resist ground and more often than not as more physical defense since FR just provides more EV's for it. as for running a special Parasect, I intend to breed and train a special one with psybeam and either HP ice or water (water preferably) and then just take it to the R2 in my leaf green home game (where I store all the solo runners and theme teams) and just see how it handles the R2 because that is the big one, I think sub 100 resets and level 95-98 is possible. the 2 Kings were fun and that coverage for the physical is kinda perfect, the only spot where it wasn't its best was Bruno as I had no flying moves for the fighting types, HP flying would of been nice there, but STAB earthquake is just as good, its STAB earthquake, thats almost always good. I'll let you know about the special Rina/Queen, i'm testing its HP right now (I do it early in every run), it seems to be a special type, but thats all I can guess so far. be warned with the VS, the bulk is good but the speed is important between the 2, in both my King runs, it barely out sped the Aerodactyl and thats with good IV's and EV training and Queen is slower, bulkier Aerodactyl getting in one extra earthquake might make the difference to the reset counter. getting out and into a different game and a different Gen where the mechanics are massive different is no easier thing, especially when you have been so used to running one way for so long, fire red is your home after all, but you will get there and I know you'll have fun with it when you do. I think its safe to say he have earned a little rest after giving us the Parasect run at last. Parasect in Gen 4 will be fun for you as well, it gets a decent dual STAB in the form of X-Scissor and Seed Bomb (physical grass move) and you still get spore and Swords Dance, in a trick room, it is a monster, there are very few slower than it in a normal run after all. Magmar VS Electabuzz will be awesome to see they are both beastly and have some of the best coverage for either of their types, Charizard VS Raichu is the only comparable pairing to them. Masquerain will be great and might be the best bug you run, its coverage and stat spread is just good enough to be almost perfect and with a silver wind boost for good measure, its a monster bug. I just watched Scott do a Colab with Steve and speed runner with a back ported Ray in Yellow and it was not so good there as you might think, I think sub hour would be a hard ask of it, special might carry it and give you one of your best runs, but it won't beat the Mewtwo I think. Mewtwo is your best bet for a sub hour, depends on how you optimize, maybe give it a cheeky move tutor move from Emerald instead of an egg move. you had about as much good luck with Feraligatr as you had bad luck with Parasect, it was rather superb, I knew it would do well and that you'd enjoy it. water starters are beasts, in Gen 4, Empoleon is just as good and you'll love it for the same reasons, maybe have it VS Gator to see which one rules Gen 4. you'll have Dragon Dance for Gator and Swords Dance and a natural high special attack for the Penguin. rage was worth a try but yeah no, not again if possible lol.
@jptheflipper3825 I hope that there's a bit more than can be gained from Parasect beyond just winging it and hoping for good RNG. I can't deny that some of those battles were just "hope for the best" but the runs were also separated by months and run 2 wasn't eggsactly well planned :P That is a fair point that he quad resists the Ground. I hadn't taken that into consideration. Even underground it's still essentially a resisted shot. I agree that with the STAB options being so poor that relying on STAB moves wasn't really the way to go. Leaning into SpA felt like it would be better than it was. I was wrong! Maybe with a special HP typing to help cover, but still. HP Flying would have been nice for Bruno, but STAB EQ hits for more damage with the Nidos. It's something that always catches me when I'm running Normal types with Return. STAB is just so darn strong. I love STAB EQ. That's a fair point, but outspeeding Aero is always up in the air, even with fast Pokémon. I'm hoping that Queen's bulk will allow at least soaking 1 move from Aero while having the HP to survive a Kingdra shot as well. I can see something like that being the case with Ice Beam nuking everything else. I agree. I've been wanting to diversify for so long now, and I feel like I'm finally in a position where I can start focusing on that. First, redesign the SS overlay using the new FR one as a template. I need the visual quality to remain high at least as my gameplay quality plummets :P I'm hoping to really focus in on it in the next couple of weeks. My free time will be running HGSS on repeat just for practice. Hopefully... Life has a way of interrupting even the best laid plans. Ahhh yes, thinking about hunting for omniboosts with another Bug. A few people got mad when I did that in Butterfree's video. Eh! It was grind a bunch, or fish for luck. I'm happy to take the latter :P I don't know if Charizard VS Raichu would be equivalent, especially with the egg moves. I haven't played Rai myself, but seeing Scott's attempt at Red with Pika/Rai.. it looked painful. And he didn't go into EQ land aka R2! Perhaps :P But especially with legendaries I don't want to push things too far. I feel like they shouldn't need the egg moves because they're SHOULD be naturally super strong. Not like Ho-oh/Lugia.. that'll be a fun start to the game. I wasn't able to watch all of that collab project, but I did catch some of it. I think you're right. Mewtwo will be my sub hour, but I'd love for Ray to be nipping at Mewtwo's heels at least. Getting both sub hour would be insane. I disagree! Rage was not worth it. Rage.. is never worth it :P But yes, I had a ton of fun with Feraligatr. Empoleon seems right up my alley too, again going back to that discussion about how badly I want to start running Gen 4. Especially with adding the BP budget for and expansive assortment of moves, maybe even a game corner budget too! Ahhh... SS is going to be a lot of fun.
@@Eggsceptional there is a way forward with Parasect, but it won't be any quicker than you've already shown. I fought nearly every trainer I could with Parasect and went in to the R1 and R2 at much higher levels, fair enough you got through both below level 90, which is impressive but the lower level does of course come with lower defenses and that made a difference, the extra defensive stats helped as much as having a little more attack. resisting earthquake that much is a rare luxury and one that I made good use of it. also, I did invest some time into hunting for boosting items for Parasect, a Hard Stone for boosting HP rock did help a lot. yeah there is that with Bruno and earthquake, but HP flying would be best overall, it will provide so decent coverage through the run before you get earthquake and it will give you something at the very end to deal with the Heracross without allowing to get off a rock tomb and ruining your speed. speaking of speed, without a plus speed nature, Nidoking can out speed Aerodactyl at about level 83, maybe 85 to be safe. Queen will definitely need a higher level or a speedy nature to out speed, that or max defense investment. also with the Nidos, Lance is most likely to send out Kingdra after Gyrarados, might be because if the water typing, STAB hydro pump hurts a lot. very true, life does get in the way a lot, especially when you don't want or need it to most. a little practise in SS and you'll be ready to show us what you got, any plans on what your 1st runs will be or will that be a surprise? Also I am curious, will you be sticking to the same rules for SS as you do for FR? and will you be showing us the physical and special of each move on the overlay? I know its not so needed on the FR as type dictated the physical/special but in SS it is a must to know for some runs. the few who complained about you fishing for the omniboost clearly have never tried running a low powered bug in Gen 3. and yeah maybe that isn't the best comparison, but its the best I got, mixed attacking electric and fire types aren't exactly common in Gen 3, flareon and jolteon or raikou and entei aren't exactly comparable and to be fair, it it is possible to run raichu or charizard as pure physical or special or mixed attackers even in Gen 3, not easy, but doable. physical Chu as it is known is a little monster in Gen 4 after all. I saw Scotts Raichu run, rather rough and could be improved but he is new to fire red and I think we can forgive that, i think he is going to start doing the R2 when he starts doing FR runs properly. be fair with Ho-Oh and Lugia, they are monsters and in Gen 2, they are some of the fastest solo runners, but in gen 3, they suffer to Brock too much, they are bulky and fast, but that doesn't mean much to an Onix that can rock tomb and that is the start of the problems, as is the case with ant solo runs. Mewtwo will be your No.1 I do not doubt that, although saying that, I suspect a fast moving normal type but give it a good shot, I think for both Squidgy and Scott, Ursuring and Zangoose stand tallest after all. I think with maybe a dozen runs and some near perfect RNG and luck Ray could get the sub hour and be near to the top with Mewtwo, but when a lot of that is down to luck and not consistent, it might be a hollow victory . against something other than a rock, in a prolonged battle it could be worth it but yeah, no, not again. you'll like Empoleon and will give you a good run, a little rough in places, but will be good, water starters are always beasts, I think that continues into all gens and all water starters in all games, Blastoise is decent in Gen 2, swampert and Gator became even more beastly in Gen 4 as I said, 5 gave hidden abilities that upped them again, Gen 6 gave megas. so much for a single type, but you'll get to all that in time. BTW, a little while ago, I talked about the idea of a fire red mod that would make it more like Yellow instead of red and if someone had made one, I think I have found one, its called Recharged Yellow and looks rather good, might be something for you look into, the different teams for gyms and the rival will make a difference to your solos I think
@@jptheflipper3825 Oh yeah I can imagine that a boosting item might be worth taking a shot at in that run to be honest. It's always such a toss up for me because it could be quick, but it could be a long search. I suppose grinding against the league a little more might have been an option. The first few members weren't horrible after all, that may have sped up the run. That Heracross and it's Rock Tombs. It's a super cool lead, I much prefer it over Pidgeot. Sand Attack and Featherdance. Get outta here. Getting to the mid 80s with a Medium Slow Pokémon isn't too crazy a challenge for Round 2. Noted with Kingdra coming out second. I think I mentioned my plans for the initial SS runs on stream? I don't mind revealing them, they'll be some attempts of the game using the Gen 4 starters, then I think I want to try the earliest dex number of Gen 4 of each type. I hope that makes sense. They likely won't have optimized playthroughs and I'll be seeking a ton of feedback on the initial run of videos. It's definitely inspired by Scott's first run at FireRed. I really hope that he includes some Round 2 content in his upcoming FireRed videos! He definitely has a much more refined approach.. I must learn coding. It's true though, fishing for that omniboost and saving between league members is the only thing that keeps me sane with some runs :P I'm considering doing Lugia/Ho-oh after starting the SS series. I'm hoping that'll give me enough of a time buffer to dial in my VS series process a bit more. There are a lot of things I've been doing manually.. I'm trying to change that. That's a fair point with Ray getting the sub 1h time. Mewtwo, though, for sure. Ahhh I have so many runs that I want to do!! Ursaring has been in my mind for a while. I want to test a Guts/Rest/Sleep Talk strat to see how it stacks up. I hope that I find a bit more pleasure in playing some other types in Gen 4. Most of the time in FR it feels like I'm just looking forward to the next Water run. They're just so good! Empoleon with the Steel typing too is right up my alley. Too bad you cant have Dry Skin yet, could have given you even more fire weakness. Swords Dance with any combo of physical moves like Return, Sludge Bomb, Dig, Aerial Ace, etc could get you thru league rematch
That's eggsactly what this run needed. More Fire damage :P It's true with SD, I'm thinking that if I do end up re-playing this run I'll stay more physical throughout the whole playthrough.
Don't forget, Lvl 100 with the maximum possible speed that it could possibly have! This doesn't fill me with hope for other base 30 speed Pokémon in the future :P

You know what Eggsceptional? Let me tell you. Despistes its many weaknessed and lack of speed, I do still like parasect, because it's insect type and good against psychic Pokemon. This alone makes it a nice Mon, for me! After all, we have to consider its resistances too. It's a tank against fighting, water and ground pokemon. I know, its double weaknesses are deadly, well let's just say it could have been given better defenses, speed and HP. That's his problem.
I hope that this video didn't serve to try to pull people away from Parasect! Not at all! I just didn't have a good time running it is all. As a team player, or in a different region I see the potential of Parasect. Maybe :P As a solo runner in Kanto though.. Paras gets a big ol' "F" from this guy :D

somehow parasec feels strange, the brock split was faster in the second run, sure, but the others times were... meh r1 champ -6, but the other times didnt change from the brock time, or were even slower

I agree. Seeing that barring the Brock split I actually ended up losing time over the remainder of the run was quite disappointing. The overall time save was fine, but being -2 at the end from the Brock split felt bad. I think it was lucky and my shear lack of ability to solve this problem. I had ideas for a third run.. but I need a break from this bug :P

The paras line is one of my favorite bug Pokemon lines and a Pokemon that comes to mind that gets a big buff not only due to the physical special split but the leap is great moves available. Does it still struggle against fire types and flying types? Yes, but a purely physical Adamant parasect with full attack ev training is nothing to scoff at.
I can imagine so yeah! I think I say think about every single Pokémon that I play, but I cannot wait to see how differently it plays in Gen 4. Parasect less so.. that would mean playing it again :P Maybe it can convert me.

I knew this run was gonna be difficult but gogdamn the pain in this run could be felt in every second of the vid but it was amazing to see and amazing that you didn't have go to level 100. Also my math could be really off here (figuring out probability is not my strong suit) but I think the chances of either the quick claw activating or fire blast missing is 29% and for dodging the first Gengar's hypnosis or the quick claw activating is 56% again I could be wrong cuz that doesn't seem right to me or I read the probability calculator wrong but yeah still rough odds.
Looking forward to seeing how my favorite starter handles a solo run in Kanto, congrats on clearing this run and good luck with the Kanto Starters!
I think you're right about the probability. It should have been around that 1/3 range to happen against Charizard, but oh no. Not for this guy :P At least against Gengar things worked out reasonably quickly, but not that Charizard. Never that Charizard. I'm looking so forward to playing some Kantonian starters. Especially with the addition of egg moves and evolutions since the last time I played them :D

I feel like all of them will do amazing but not counting my bias towards Venusaur I see Blastoise having the best run of the three, as far as egg moves for Venusaur go Magical Leaf is probably the best since it has more power points then Vine Whip and has almost double the power so that means less trips to the Pokémon Center, also it never misses and still has more power than Razor Leaf and the same base power as Giga Drain in gen 3 so I can see it being on the moveset for quite a while @@Eggsceptional

Yeah if Petal Dance was at it's current base power in gen 9 I would consider it being worth the risk but at 70 base power its not really appealing. Honestly I'm not sure what else to put in that spot at the moment. I have plans for things like enemy stat blocks that update live, but it all takes time. It's like having the 2 sprites on screen. It's a little redundant, but I had to fill the space with something! Plus, I use the learn set for reference while running :P

Thank you! I use 2 pieces of software to alter my runs. First, the Universal Pokémon Randomizer to change my starter and allow for National Dex evolutions. Then, after getting my starter I save, pause the timer, and put my save file into PKHeX where I then alter the IVs/nature/add the egg move. I also set the electric barrier in Vermillion to being solved :)
I would like to see Parasect revisited... but AFTER you play some better pokemon lines. Maybe several months... or years... from now when you don't instinctively start twitching at hearing Parasect's name.
My left eye is still twitching, so I would have to agree with waiting a bit. Parasect needs love! But it certainly has taken all I can give for now :P
It's too bad the rival's Venusaur doesn't actually use poison attacking moves, otherwise Venusaur+double intimidate would be a nice challenge
That's a fair point! I'd considered the Venusaur team, but it seems they were too busy giving everything Earthquake in the Round 2 league to add Sludge Bomb :P

Parasect is interesting pokemon to explore,but that typing is so bad with that awful speed. If only gen 1 badge boost would have been there to fix that speed issue 😅. Hack,even fury cutter would have helped out a lot , because of the power increase, but that can only be a thing in gen 2 or in gen 4.
I believe that Parasect was meant to be a physical attacker more then a special one, because most of it's moves are physical. Even though having one special move in early game made a difference to the poor zombie mashrom.
The funny thing is that parasect and Dugtiro shares the same base stat total,but I think Dugtiro maybe have a shot being the best worse pokemon maybe Shuckle won't be alone in that tier list after all 😂😂.

Having Fury Cutter might have made for some interesting changes. Maybe? Charizard resisting it by 4x might have thrown a wrench in, but hey! I would have tried it. I didn't know that Parasect and Dugtrio shared the same BST! I'm seeing 80 base attack and 120 base speed... At least if I encounter problems with it I might be able to outspeed and Fissure my way through. Maybe? You're probably right. It'll be awful :P
@@Eggsceptional Fury cutter could have 2 shoted Charizard with the right rng with sword dance. But that is gambling, because that 95 accuracy is always there to remind you it exists.
And yeah Dugtiro is bad, because of that hp stat but at least it can outspeed most Pokémon in the game,and then what? Ground moves are heavily nerfed because of Levitate. And with that in mind good luck with Agatha and Lance and Lorelei.😅🫡

I knew this run was going to be a struggle. At least you aren’t using a paras/parascect with dry skin that would give you an 8x/ octo weakness to fire though not like the dry skin ability exists in gen 3
What I would have given for Paras to be able to learn Rain Dance.. I feel like in the end game Dry Skin wouldn't have made any difference. We were getting one shot regardless :P

Eggcellent sir, Eggcellent, at last we got the ZomBugTing and I was not disappointed, not even a little, I genuinely thought it would be so much worse, possibly low thousands resets. but still we got a lot to unpack here.
that 1st run from October, I see why you gave it up for several months and needed to recover, that R2 Charizard was appalling, how did it not miss after like 10 resets, that is madness, there must be something in the RAM to explain it because if that was you using fire blast it wold missed half the time, literally every other time would of missed for you, it doesn't make sense. the moveset jank was shocking as well, figuring out what you needed to make the zombie bug work was madness and I have a feeling we'll see that moveset again one day on something equally frustrating. I can't comment on the why you didn't try this strat or that strat because figuring this thing out is never easy and you kinda gotta wing it and make it up as you go and hope for the best.
now the 2nd run, 1st, I thank you for your shout out and naming it ZomBugTing, it is a perfect name. I was going ask about choosing to face Charizard again but you covered that in the video and I gotta say fair enough to that. it keeps it consistent and allows us to see the difference between the runs and how it has been optimized and improved. I knew you'd go for psybeam for the egg move, it made sense and it made a massive difference, but I got to ask you about your choice of nature, naive is ok, but the loss of special defense for speed is way riskier than it needed to be considering your weakness to fire, yes it wasn't going to help in the R2, but you might of tanked a lower fire or ice move more readily and shaved off a reset or 2. I would of gone the opposite and had sassy nature, more special defense and less speed, you said you would never out speed the charizard or the aerodactyl, lean into it and invest in the defense and trust it to luck for those battles.
your moveset choices were interesting, I have run a few Parasects over the years and never used secret power or return on it, even with swords dance. for the R2 and the Steelixeseses did you consider losing HP rock and having dig, I know its a little less powerful in terms of base power but it would of been super effective and you would of been underground to dodge any attack they make in the event they woke up and then relearn HP rock or something else maybe for Agatha afterwards, there is the chop and change capacity with moves like that for Parasect, it is a shame that moves like aerial ace are single use because it would be could to get back once its been lost. also I had a thought about R2 movesets and something popped up you might like. have you considered Facade? doubles in power when used by something a status like poison or burn, works like guts. it is TM 42 and you can get it on Island 5 from the memorial pillar, just bring the grieving guy some lemonade and he gives it. also for special Parasect, did you consider HP ice or water, I have been theory crafting and I think a special Parasect in R2 might make good use of it. might breed one and test it in an R2 myself to find out.
good news physical Nidoking is finished and I can report that it runs essentially the same as special king, same resets and levels for the R1 and R2, the only difference is that R2 physical king made no new moveset upgrades because there was none that could be made, earthquake, rock slide, brick break and shadow ball is the best set. I am moving onto Queen now, I have my special queen caught and am about to get started, I shall report back how it does as a Nidorina until it gets crunch and the problems that come with that.
Thank you! Surprisingly this wasn't even my highest reset run. Still, it definitely had my temper flaring. I really tried not just winging it and I think that's what ultimately lead to my defeat with Parasect. There was no optimal path, only paths of lesser sucking :P Concerning the nature in the second playthrough I think I agree. Leaning into SpA for R1 just wasn't as viable as I'd hoped, and maybe just eggcepting the low speed and going +Atk might have been better too. With the amount of Earthquakes in Round 2 I didn't go for Dig no. Bruno's Hitmonchan in R2 is the only one without EQ. I would be interested in hearing about a more special Parasect run. I was thinking that leaning more into physical might be the way to go. But I do like physical sets.
Awesome news with the Nidos! That's a gnarly set on King for R2. Pure coverage, you gotta love it. I'll be interested to hear more about Rina/Queen in the coming days! Concerning a race between the two I'm inclined to agree. Having the additional bulk on Queen I feel will be more useful than the additional attack on King. Rocky said it! It ain't about how hard you hit, it's about how hard you can get hit and keep moving forward.
I've been thinking about the Gen 4 runs a lot lately. I just need to push through a little more FireRed content and I can fully devote myself into learning that game for a bit. No distractions, just playing and getting better. I'd love to start bringing them to the channel sooner than later, but there is a certain level of play/quality that I eggspect of myself. I like the idea of Magmar/Electabuzz but I don't see them happening for a little while yet. So many runs to do. So many. Masquerain will be a fun one I know we've discussed it before. Anything with Water coverage instantly gets better in my books.
Yeah I'm feeling like I might have to devote some time to Mewtwo/Rayquaza again soon. I would like to really grind out some attempts with them to try for that sub hour run. Mewtwo for sure, Ray maybe. Special Ray has a lot of potential.
Aerodactyl seemed to go for AA every time with Parasect I don't think I saw AP a single time. That would be a really interesting pair to run through the game actually. Incredibly slow and getting smacked around until defeating Blue, getting Trick Room, and being unstoppable. Ahhh Gen 4! I must get there faster! I really want to include GameHook integration as well, I know the team has been working on it for Gen 4.
Feraligatr: Thank you again. I had a TON of fun with that run. Getting the flinch luck and Ice Beam freezes felt so glorious. I was really hoping that the Rage would guide me against Brock! Clearly that was a false pretense. It's true with the Defensive EVs they're all over the place in FR. Cycling Road is half Def, half Atk EVs. DD would have been fun to start with, but I'm sure I'll have a ton of fun re-doing this is Gen 4.
@@Eggsceptional you make a good point, winging it with Parasect is about as bad as optimal, it very much a matter of "the only way I win is the way lose" a lot of the time. you did well though, in both runs, it could of been a lot worse and I think the audience expected it, you did good. leaning into the special attack is good to an extent, in a normal run (no egg move, no optimal HP) its only real special is its STAB and since its STAB leaning into it just for that is not so necessary, either more attack or more defenses is better investment, I'd argue defenses as 6+ with Swords Dance for the R2 kinda takes care of that. I forget about earthquake, but here's the thing, as much as Parasect is quad weak to fire and flying, it does also quad resist ground and more often than not as more physical defense since FR just provides more EV's for it. as for running a special Parasect, I intend to breed and train a special one with psybeam and either HP ice or water (water preferably) and then just take it to the R2 in my leaf green home game (where I store all the solo runners and theme teams) and just see how it handles the R2 because that is the big one, I think sub 100 resets and level 95-98 is possible.
the 2 Kings were fun and that coverage for the physical is kinda perfect, the only spot where it wasn't its best was Bruno as I had no flying moves for the fighting types, HP flying would of been nice there, but STAB earthquake is just as good, its STAB earthquake, thats almost always good. I'll let you know about the special Rina/Queen, i'm testing its HP right now (I do it early in every run), it seems to be a special type, but thats all I can guess so far. be warned with the VS, the bulk is good but the speed is important between the 2, in both my King runs, it barely out sped the Aerodactyl and thats with good IV's and EV training and Queen is slower, bulkier Aerodactyl getting in one extra earthquake might make the difference to the reset counter.
getting out and into a different game and a different Gen where the mechanics are massive different is no easier thing, especially when you have been so used to running one way for so long, fire red is your home after all, but you will get there and I know you'll have fun with it when you do. I think its safe to say he have earned a little rest after giving us the Parasect run at last. Parasect in Gen 4 will be fun for you as well, it gets a decent dual STAB in the form of X-Scissor and Seed Bomb (physical grass move) and you still get spore and Swords Dance, in a trick room, it is a monster, there are very few slower than it in a normal run after all.
Magmar VS Electabuzz will be awesome to see they are both beastly and have some of the best coverage for either of their types, Charizard VS Raichu is the only comparable pairing to them. Masquerain will be great and might be the best bug you run, its coverage and stat spread is just good enough to be almost perfect and with a silver wind boost for good measure, its a monster bug.
I just watched Scott do a Colab with Steve and speed runner with a back ported Ray in Yellow and it was not so good there as you might think, I think sub hour would be a hard ask of it, special might carry it and give you one of your best runs, but it won't beat the Mewtwo I think. Mewtwo is your best bet for a sub hour, depends on how you optimize, maybe give it a cheeky move tutor move from Emerald instead of an egg move.
you had about as much good luck with Feraligatr as you had bad luck with Parasect, it was rather superb, I knew it would do well and that you'd enjoy it. water starters are beasts, in Gen 4, Empoleon is just as good and you'll love it for the same reasons, maybe have it VS Gator to see which one rules Gen 4. you'll have Dragon Dance for Gator and Swords Dance and a natural high special attack for the Penguin. rage was worth a try but yeah no, not again if possible lol.
@jptheflipper3825 I hope that there's a bit more than can be gained from Parasect beyond just winging it and hoping for good RNG. I can't deny that some of those battles were just "hope for the best" but the runs were also separated by months and run 2 wasn't eggsactly well planned :P That is a fair point that he quad resists the Ground. I hadn't taken that into consideration. Even underground it's still essentially a resisted shot. I agree that with the STAB options being so poor that relying on STAB moves wasn't really the way to go. Leaning into SpA felt like it would be better than it was. I was wrong! Maybe with a special HP typing to help cover, but still.
HP Flying would have been nice for Bruno, but STAB EQ hits for more damage with the Nidos. It's something that always catches me when I'm running Normal types with Return. STAB is just so darn strong. I love STAB EQ. That's a fair point, but outspeeding Aero is always up in the air, even with fast Pokémon. I'm hoping that Queen's bulk will allow at least soaking 1 move from Aero while having the HP to survive a Kingdra shot as well. I can see something like that being the case with Ice Beam nuking everything else.
I agree. I've been wanting to diversify for so long now, and I feel like I'm finally in a position where I can start focusing on that. First, redesign the SS overlay using the new FR one as a template. I need the visual quality to remain high at least as my gameplay quality plummets :P I'm hoping to really focus in on it in the next couple of weeks. My free time will be running HGSS on repeat just for practice. Hopefully... Life has a way of interrupting even the best laid plans.
Ahhh yes, thinking about hunting for omniboosts with another Bug. A few people got mad when I did that in Butterfree's video. Eh! It was grind a bunch, or fish for luck. I'm happy to take the latter :P I don't know if Charizard VS Raichu would be equivalent, especially with the egg moves. I haven't played Rai myself, but seeing Scott's attempt at Red with Pika/Rai.. it looked painful. And he didn't go into EQ land aka R2!

I disagree! Rage was not worth it. Rage.. is never worth it :P But yes, I had a ton of fun with Feraligatr. Empoleon seems right up my alley too, again going back to that discussion about how badly I want to start running Gen 4. Especially with adding the BP budget for and expansive assortment of moves, maybe even a game corner budget too! Ahhh... SS is going to be a lot of fun.
@@Eggsceptional there is a way forward with Parasect, but it won't be any quicker than you've already shown. I fought nearly every trainer I could with Parasect and went in to the R1 and R2 at much higher levels, fair enough you got through both below level 90, which is impressive but the lower level does of course come with lower defenses and that made a difference, the extra defensive stats helped as much as having a little more attack. resisting earthquake that much is a rare luxury and one that I made good use of it. also, I did invest some time into hunting for boosting items for Parasect, a Hard Stone for boosting HP rock did help a lot.
yeah there is that with Bruno and earthquake, but HP flying would be best overall, it will provide so decent coverage through the run before you get earthquake and it will give you something at the very end to deal with the Heracross without allowing to get off a rock tomb and ruining your speed. speaking of speed, without a plus speed nature, Nidoking can out speed Aerodactyl at about level 83, maybe 85 to be safe. Queen will definitely need a higher level or a speedy nature to out speed, that or max defense investment. also with the Nidos, Lance is most likely to send out Kingdra after Gyrarados, might be because if the water typing, STAB hydro pump hurts a lot.
very true, life does get in the way a lot, especially when you don't want or need it to most. a little practise in SS and you'll be ready to show us what you got, any plans on what your 1st runs will be or will that be a surprise?
Also I am curious, will you be sticking to the same rules for SS as you do for FR? and will you be showing us the physical and special of each move on the overlay? I know its not so needed on the FR as type dictated the physical/special but in SS it is a must to know for some runs.
the few who complained about you fishing for the omniboost clearly have never tried running a low powered bug in Gen 3. and yeah maybe that isn't the best comparison, but its the best I got, mixed attacking electric and fire types aren't exactly common in Gen 3, flareon and jolteon or raikou and entei aren't exactly comparable and to be fair, it it is possible to run raichu or charizard as pure physical or special or mixed attackers even in Gen 3, not easy, but doable. physical Chu as it is known is a little monster in Gen 4 after all. I saw Scotts Raichu run, rather rough and could be improved but he is new to fire red and I think we can forgive that, i think he is going to start doing the R2 when he starts doing FR runs properly.
be fair with Ho-Oh and Lugia, they are monsters and in Gen 2, they are some of the fastest solo runners, but in gen 3, they suffer to Brock too much, they are bulky and fast, but that doesn't mean much to an Onix that can rock tomb and that is the start of the problems, as is the case with ant solo runs. Mewtwo will be your No.1 I do not doubt that, although saying that, I suspect a fast moving normal type but give it a good shot, I think for both Squidgy and Scott, Ursuring and Zangoose stand tallest after all. I think with maybe a dozen runs and some near perfect RNG and luck Ray could get the sub hour and be near to the top with Mewtwo, but when a lot of that is down to luck and not consistent, it might be a hollow victory .
against something other than a rock, in a prolonged battle it could be worth it but yeah, no, not again. you'll like Empoleon and will give you a good run, a little rough in places, but will be good, water starters are always beasts, I think that continues into all gens and all water starters in all games, Blastoise is decent in Gen 2, swampert and Gator became even more beastly in Gen 4 as I said, 5 gave hidden abilities that upped them again, Gen 6 gave megas. so much for a single type, but you'll get to all that in time.
BTW, a little while ago, I talked about the idea of a fire red mod that would make it more like Yellow instead of red and if someone had made one, I think I have found one, its called Recharged Yellow and looks rather good, might be something for you look into, the different teams for gyms and the rival will make a difference to your solos I think
@@jptheflipper3825 Oh yeah I can imagine that a boosting item might be worth taking a shot at in that run to be honest. It's always such a toss up for me because it could be quick, but it could be a long search. I suppose grinding against the league a little more might have been an option. The first few members weren't horrible after all, that may have sped up the run.
That Heracross and it's Rock Tombs. It's a super cool lead, I much prefer it over Pidgeot. Sand Attack and Featherdance. Get outta here. Getting to the mid 80s with a Medium Slow Pokémon isn't too crazy a challenge for Round 2. Noted with Kingdra coming out second.
I think I mentioned my plans for the initial SS runs on stream? I don't mind revealing them, they'll be some attempts of the game using the Gen 4 starters, then I think I want to try the earliest dex number of Gen 4 of each type. I hope that makes sense. They likely won't have optimized playthroughs and I'll be seeking a ton of feedback on the initial run of videos. It's definitely inspired by Scott's first run at FireRed.
I really hope that he includes some Round 2 content in his upcoming FireRed videos! He definitely has a much more refined approach.. I must learn coding. It's true though, fishing for that omniboost and saving between league members is the only thing that keeps me sane with some runs :P
I'm considering doing Lugia/Ho-oh after starting the SS series. I'm hoping that'll give me enough of a time buffer to dial in my VS series process a bit more. There are a lot of things I've been doing manually.. I'm trying to change that. That's a fair point with Ray getting the sub 1h time. Mewtwo, though, for sure. Ahhh I have so many runs that I want to do!! Ursaring has been in my mind for a while. I want to test a Guts/Rest/Sleep Talk strat to see how it stacks up.
I hope that I find a bit more pleasure in playing some other types in Gen 4. Most of the time in FR it feels like I'm just looking forward to the next Water run. They're just so good! Empoleon with the Steel typing too is right up my alley.
Recharged Yellow, I'll have to check it out. I hope it works with PKHeX and GameHook! I'm way too spoiled having those lately :D

Parasect should have been but ghost. That would have been game changer for it in my opinion.

That's eggsactly what this run needed. More Fire damage :P It's true with SD, I'm thinking that if I do end up re-playing this run I'll stay more physical throughout the whole playthrough.
