I don't know... I really never cared for Korn that much. That's not to say they aren't talented - they most definitely are. But after hearing maybe two of their songs, all the rest started sounding almost exactly the same. Kinda the same way that Breaking Benjamin all sounds pretty much the same. I don't know... Easy to like, but also really easy to tire of. Best way I can explain it.
Agreed here, he’s in what appears to be a nu metal esk vibe so Deftones more heavy riffing songs is probably his lane at the moment till he can hear more of what Deftones has to offer. Nothing short of blowing his mind for sure though as he goes deeper into their songs.

II started as a 20 yr old something listening to Deftones and now Im a 50 yr old still listening to them. One of the greats! Many others mentioned some more bangin songs but haven't heard anyone mention Rocket Skates.

I listen to all music on house speakers that are older than me. Early 70's Sansui SP 2500's. You'd be surprised at how hard music like the Deftones bangs on them!! It's something I think everyone should experience in their life 😉

Hi…Grandma from California again. I don’t know if I mentioned it before, but both of my sons are musicians in their hearts and in their souls from the ages of 8. Now 44 & 40 years old with non musical careers. The oldest is a 23 year Firefighter/ Paramedic Battalion Chief in charge in water rescue on the Atlantic, but still plays piano and guitar everyday, teaching his 7 year old twin girls to play. My youngest is a Director of Marketing for an online Tech company. He hasn’t stopped writing music and lyrics since he was 8. He has formed 3 bands and released over a dozen albums over years. He just dropped an EP on Spotify 2 weeks ago. The reason I’m mentioning it is that his first band hung out with Deftones behind stage and opened for Papa Roach several times here in CA. That was almost 20 years ago. Yes, those bands have both been around much longer than that.
Deftones is the perfect example of a band whose progression is steady from album to album. They always maintain their sound, but each album in the discography you can hear them growing musically. Every album after the next is better than the last.
Defines are awesome. Suprised I've not seen more comments for "Back to School" yet. Feel it's right up your street as his vocals in it are much more in a hip hop new metal style than a lot of others. But Deftones have a bunch of killer track, look forward to seeing more.

Engine no.9 is an awesome instrumental, back to school, hexagram, needles and pins, minerva, hole in the earth, passenger, change (in the house of flies) , diamond eyes. The list could go on. My spotify acocunt has a Deftones playlist all its own!

This song was written while recording during a heat wave in Seattle. Heat waves are unbearable in Seattle because up until recently, few homes had air conditioning (there was no need except for the two weeks a year it was above 29.4/85). Great song and great reaction! More Deftones, please!
Finally you are getting into the Deftones! I am very much a Nu-Metal guy in my 40s....These, Rage and System don't even fit in genres, as much as I love Korn and Slipknot, Deftones will always be my favourite, they are just so unique and make my emotions go through so much!

In fact, Deftones have covered all of them at various points in their career. And yeah, Defones are this amazing live, too. :D
I don't like getting caught up in genre labels because it can be limiting, but to me deftones sounds like rock or metal filtered through 80s alternative influences like The Cure. Which makes it have a unique flavor. But at the end of the day what matters is whether you like it, regardless of how someone categorizes it.

"Head Like a Hole" "Closer" by NIN is a great place to start, but "...Nice Shot" is a MUST at some point!!!!!

Us older metalheads weren't in love with the nu-metal movement (mostly due to Limp Bizkit) but we all recognized that Deftones was something special.
Truthfully though, Limp Bizkit does have like 3 good songs. The other 197 are trash, but those 3 are pretty good.
