the kind of collar they're talking about is called a prong collar and it imitates the feeling of a mother dog holding them by the scruff. it can be used to make dogs feel calmer. it's not a sign of aggression in dogs. that being said, you should always keep your dogs on a leash in areas that require it, and respect that other dogs and people may not react well to your dog running up to them in said areas.
I have a 150 lb Anatolian shepherd and a 90 lb pit bull, NEITHER of which have been off a leash or accosted anything in 13 years. Yet my Karen neighbor’s pack of rat dog chihuahuas have bitten both my fiancé and myself, as well as EVERY NEIGHBOR. They run off leash EVERY GD DAY yet nothing happens. But go on everyone with your vicious pit and big dog bullshlt. 🙄 It ALL COMES DOWN TO THE OWNER.
mte the dog isnt on the ground bleeding because it let itself off the leash - you get a dog its your responsibility to either teach it to fucking behave or keep it on the leash. if you cant put in the effort or the minimal effort that its holding the leahs then dont get a fucking dog
Yeah, I LOVE dogs but the only time I ever got attacked by a dog it was a chihuahua. You're right, it 100% comes down to the owner. My dad had a pitbull when I was a child-- she would come up to me when I was sitting down and nuzzle her head between my arm and side, and rest her head there. People would joke that if a robber would come into the house, she would follow him around and show the robber where everything was, tail wagging along the way. He'd bring people by that she'd never met before and she'd be just as loving to them as she was to me. I miss her. She was a great dog.
I had a greyhound and this man had the personality of a grandpa from the day we got him. He never really had a reason to be on a leash because he was too lazy to care about anything. I mean our cats would always try to play with and mess with his tail and he wouldn’t even look at them. But we would still keep him on one and just lay it on his back when hiking so if we saw someone we could grab it because if he saw someone that looked like my father he would mosey over and sniff them to make sure it wasn’t him. I mean he was a big muscular greyhound so if you didn’t know him he could be scary. Well one time we were walking around the block and a lady holding a Chihuahua walks towards and stops to ask about my dog. As we are talking she sets her dog down that is off leash. Now my dog is just standing there wondering why we stopped walking but he’s just chilling because he likes his breaks and the Chihuahua jumps up a bites a chunk out of his ear. Now I am still so proud of him till this day because in this situation I would understand why he might have bit this dog back because when we got him he was pretty traumatized from being an abused racing dog. But thankfully he didn’t and instead he just jumped and backed up behind me because he honestly could have killed that dog in one bite.
My pitbull had a similar thing happen, chihuahuas are the MOST aggressive dog breed but people think because theyre small they dont need a leash, so ive had way too many experiences with them running up and biting my dog on the FACE!! Luckily my boy is just like yours and doesnt fight back, i think he understands his size and power
oh shoot i hike blackstar all the time, its so sus. that was also the location of the largest murder of a native tribe in OC. place is rad to hike but eerie
I have a pitbull whos super friendly but i ALWAYS keep him on a leash because he can be unpredictable and likes to hunt small animals, but other people in my complex LOVE to let their dogs off leash and let them run right up to my dog, parking and snapping, dogs have bitten mine and drew blood before but these people still Refuse to use a damn leash. To train your dog you get an extra long leash!!!! I have a 30ft leash i use when i want to train my dog to be off leash or let him fetch, its far too dangerous to let your dog off leash, you dont know whats in the environment
i 100% agree with keeping your dogs on a leash- preferably with a harness. i have a banty rooster (hes a rescue whos lived inside his whole life and at 8 years old weighs 1 3/4 pounds), a cat, and my family has little dogs. they all wear harnesses everywhere, even tho i trust a couple of them without the leash, just in case someone elses animal or a wild animal whos not so nice comes along, i can snatch them up real quick if i need to. big dogs need to he on a leash too tho, and you need to be strong enough to control them. i frikin love big dogs, my dream dog is the biggest rescue i can find, but irl im too small and disabled, i couldnt control them so i wont have one. ive never had an animal that doesnt get along with almost every other animal (besides some chickens, but most never left the house anyway) but they stay on leashes for their own safety bc other ppl dont know how to control their animals
Big dogs I can get since they can do more damage bit I don't get peoywho fear small dogs. One of my chi's you could literally hold her with one hand but a friend of mind didn't want to she her cause she was afraid of dogs even after I told her she's literally the size of a toy. Ofcourse I'm not trying to shame phobias but it's just so bewildering to me
