Bought a 2017 MDX Sport Hybrid with Technology package for $48750 plus tax a week ago. Quiet, smooth, with great driving dynamics. It feels quick, nimble, agile. Very pleased.

My dad got the 2018 MDX, so not too far off. Rides well, feels great, and the only issue he ever had was the wireless key acting up in 11° Fahrenheit winter weather.

Yes. This brings back all the features like the adaptive suspension I had in my 2012 MDX Advance. Loved that car. Glad Acura is bringing back all the features they took away from the MDX Advance in this current generation.

Great detailed review Alex. I have a '16 RLX Sport Hybrid and remember your review of the early 2014 release. You seem to be more convinced and understanding of the Acura Sport Hybrid mission than you were with the RLX review. I think these cars are engineered well over the price point and I am fascinated how well integrated these systems are. Everything from the smooth Start / Stop, to the regeneration dynamics added to SHAWD to the POWER without penalty is quite an achievement. Depending on how your drive the car, and selectable settings, you have a vehicle with multiple, and contrasting personalities from conservative efficiency to precise handling to unexpected power.

A quick update to my week old (then) MDX Hybrid. The support person found that a backup fuse had dislodged during transport to the dealership, causing the vehicle to shutdown. Not sure how to react. However, driving is a dream and the engine sound in Sport+ mode with the paddle shifters are a sweet new experience for me. Just wish the infotainment system was as good as it was on my old Lex 350.

A great car. I have the 2019 with Tech. Excellent value. Doesn’t feel like a big car to drive, lot of power and great handling. It is not as luxurious as other brands and even the new RDX interior seems more special and hitech. However, overall the interior is nice. The infotainment system is a weak spot, but it’s functional and, with the addition of apple carplay and android auto, I think there nothing much to complain about.

Hi Alex, as always another excellent detailed review! I own 2017 MDX (non hybrid), the ZF9 transmission definitely feels bumpy on lower gears. I test drove Hybrid MDX today, it feels much smoother and responsive. But it still has the old (2 screen) infotainment system which is outdated. (where as Honda Pilot already received updated infotainment system). I am waiting for the next MDX Hybrid with updated infotainment system, then it will be worth upgrading!

I would go for 18-20 models because of the updated info-tainment with Carplay. You have to add aftermarket Carplay for around $500 to the 17 MDX hybrid. It can also be an issue with some models of the 17 MDX with old discontinued 3G modules for Acuralink.

Interestingly, with discounting available now, this Sport Hybrid with adjustable dampers and other improvements costs only about $3K more than the new 2019 Acura RDX A spec and even less than the Advance trim. You lose the better infotainment, but get a bigger, just as quick, just as good handling, vehicle. Solid value here.

Thank you for the detailed review Alex. I have a 2017 Acura MDX and have approx 5k miles on. I'm consistently seeing ~22 mpg in the city, highway mileage seems fine (24-25). Attempting to resolve this with Acura - would appreciate any feedback from you or fellow Acura MDX hybrid owners. (P.S. I have benchmarked against 2 other mdx hybrids which give >24 MPG city, so it seems to be just my car for now)

The 17-20 MDX Sport Hybrid uses a Port Injection 3.0L NA V-6 that can run on 87-91 Octane You don't have to worry about carbon build-up on the intake valves like dome DI engines. It states the Sport Hybrid has VCM; but, I've never felt/hear it engage on my 19 MDX Sport Hybrid in +4 years and +44,000 miles.

    • @harrytej

    • @mrgold3591
      @mrgold3591 Рік тому +2

@@harrytej I always try and use Sams or Costco (top tier for Costco) 91 Octane. Their prices for 91 are very close to the corner store gas station 87-89. I also live/drive 5000-7200 feet and the 3.0L is already down on hp/tq by 15%-20%; but, the electric motors fill in for the I.C.E. reduced power. Plus, the electric sport hybrid doesn't have the same amount of drivetrain loss like other mechanical awd systems.
Sams/Costco don't have mid grade at the pumps and I would probably use that if they did. I just stick with 91 and lean towards top tier fuels when I need to fill up when traveling. I always seem to stay within my 24-26 city/hwy/combined mpg average and 425-450 miles per 19 gal tank with that formula.

I found the Acura MDX hybrid to be sportier than the Volvo. The 7 speed dual clutch and torque vectoring system are phenomenal. You may find Acura customer service a bit disappointing should you encounter issues with your Acura (rotor issues, transmission woes, mpg etc). I did not know this but seems like Acura pulled out of BBB in 2012.

Here's why the Acura is better for me. Storage. Places to put stuff in the front seat like phones, wallets, keys, change, receipts, pass cards, etc. For such a big vehicle the XC90 has almost no cubby space. One small cupholder sized square is about it. And doing everything through the screen is a hazard when driving. I say this as a two time Volvo owner, including one currently. Very good looking in comparison, but less reliable and less day-to-day liveable.

Supposedly according to Acura there are very few people that cross-shop the Highlander, although I could seem myself doing so..

The MDX is a performance SUV with sport hybrid tech. It has improved braking, handling, and acceleration with EV components instead of using a larger displacement engine, Turbo, or supercharger. The MDX sport hybrid just happens to get the same city/combine/hwy 25-27 mpgs as a side effect. The MDX Sport Hybrid wouldn't be on my list if I'm cross-shopping and looking for a mpg hybrid like the Highlander, Rav4, Lexus hybrid, CR-V hybrid, etc...

we own an MDX hybrid and the RX 450H F Sport and the Lexus and way sportier and a much better ride than the MDX. Both cars handle amazing but the sportier ride is definitely the lexus.

Am I the only one that sees Gonzos (Sesame Street) face on these new Acuras? Granted I watch a lot of SS with my lip guy but I am not feeling this styling direction any more than the last face

I don't understand why most Acura now had 2 screens ? It was confusing and look ugly

I feel like when it comes to interior luxury, Honda has surpassed its Acura brethren. I mean isn't there a 4 way lumbar adjustment available in the CR-V!!??

You said that you don't plan on towing with your three row crossover. What gives? I thought you tow.

Thanks for compare with XC90. Of course you also have to offset the price with tax credit and the big discounts you are going to get from Volvo that you are not getting from Acura.

Driving at a steady speed is no hybrid test. After watching video have no clue how well systems operate around town.
