We test the "Visible Slug" - You Make it We Mach it

- We have a new design from Brian to test out. This is a transparent slug where we can see through the center of the body.
The criminal who has been impersonating me is back unfortunately. Since I posted my last video, I have blocked him but he continues to make new accounts, sometimes several a day. Some viewers have fallen for the scam even though I made an entire video warning viewers about this. I think he offers some sort of prize but the sucker has to pay for shipping. It's unbelievable to me that people still fall for this. Anyone can just copy a YT channel's logo and impersonate them. Please share this video to your friends so they don't fall prey to this internet criminal.
Thanks to Brian for providing these slugs. And thanks to Joe for being the guest shooter. Okay you had some failures and you had some successes. I still enjoyed the video. I know there is much more time put in "behind the scenes" that isn't shown. Keep posting and I'll keep watching.
thanks
@taofledermaus can you give me a list of basic dimensions that a projectile needs to be? I have a few ideas I want to send to you but wanna be sure they are the right size for loading. Thanks.
@@Watchdog_McCoy_5.7x28I think he does that through email
@@taofledermaus"I showed you two different loads..." phrasing... and the fact I'm still watching tells you how much I want to see the results... the girlfriend peaked what around the corner like whatwhatwhat?
Great shooting Joe can’t blame you for a loose sight. Good shot in the melon! The fact that thing held up on the lead plate so well was so amazing.
Red dot hiccups aside, that custom round looks pretty accurate and stable!
Yeh no way that sucker isn't going to be accurate. Sure you would have to zero it but eh something that stable it not going to be prone to wondering
@@nanaki-seto From what Geoff said, the scope's mounting screws were wrong and that caused it to mess up.
It could have been much worse and thankfully, they realised what was going on before they lost all the test rounds
Thanks to the guest shooter and thanks to the maker! Great video. You guys are awesome
I like the mixture of guest shooters and the OG
As a resin caster myself, I am impressed with how well the slugs held up. I could see a load of microbubbles in the closeups, which usually weaken the epoxy, but it might be that the thread on the bolt provided enough support to make them last. Always something new to learn from your videos!
And that was one of the better ones. SOme had even more bubbles!
I was thinking the same thing about the thread. It provides greater surface area for the resin to adhere to. That must account for at least some of the durability.
Not surprised. You can learn a lot about a material when you subject it to extreme pressures and impacts. That is why I love channels like this, because different materials act in different ways when subjected to the strains of being fired from a barrel.
You all never fail to put out a good video. Even your "failures" are highly entertaining and informative.
Glad you think so!
@@taofledermausthe missed shots aren't failures , with the slowmo it's always a win because you get to see the slug's behavior on a longer trajectory which is more important to me than the impact
That support bar shot is a one in a million lol
Excellent work 👏
See if Federal will send you a few cases of Fosters. They could be used as a standard for sighting and diagnostics. Always great stuff, Jeff, the OG and guests! Many Thanks!
I hope Brian sends another batch to you for a second chance…but i think the way they flew true and super stable, also how well they held up, would make them a success. We just like to see stuff go booom!
Agreed would have liked to have seen more impacts. Ballistic gel etc. shame about the red dot issue. I’ve had similar happen to me at the range and didn’t realize it til halfway through the range day tho! So can happen to anyone 😂
Joe did pretty good shooting without sights.
No matter what happens, these videos are always fun to watch. Keep up the great work Jeff!
I appreciate that!
For me, even when things go wrong, there's always something to learn from the video. Jeff's high speed camera is such a great asset to the channel!
If Greg doesn't show up wearing a kilt in next weeks video I'm gonna be really disappointed.
Coming soon
those look promising, id like to see a second go around with more of these if possible.
Always enjoy your videos. Hit or miss, still entertaining.
Glad you like them!
Nice slugs Brian, it's hard trying 2 shoot unfamiliar shell's. You and Joe from Bakersfield still made my evening Jeff. Got 2 give u, a solid 8/10. Again thank you Jeff.
thanks!!
What is happening with your grammar and punctuation? Looks like you took a handful of words and punctuation marks and just threw them at the comment tab.
@@taofledermaus ❤️
@faust167 oh man, a word cop? I'm sorry I made u feel triggered. But this phone has 2 redo most things I write
Thanks to the guest for showing up! 🤗
The round was VERY stable in flight - nice! 😃👍
Every video you do, every round you test is always well worth watching. They’re always proof of concept no matter what. This is what ballistics/science is all about. We always learn something from each of your videos. Your efforts and sense of humor are greatly appreciated every time. Keep up the great work!
Thank you!
Shotgun are so versatile being able to shoot so many different items from Legos to custom rounds. Awesome see. Keep the great videos coming!🥰
thanks!
I am impressed how stable this slug is. Interesting concept and design. Success in my book. Good job Brian. Thank you gents for sticking with it.
This has always been and continue to be one of my favorite YT channels. I always appreciate the content and look forward to every video.
You've really been having the gun sight blues lately.
Hopefully you get more of those. We need a part 2!!!
Of course, we always love your videos even with guest shooters, it is amazing to see the designs that people come up with, and the different ballistics of different slug types. Some of these Home designers have come up with some incredible slugs that are absolute beasts. And others look great, but will not shoot straight to save their lives. No matter what it is always an enjoyable episode!! Keep up the good work!
Not gonna lie, I appreciate that the shooter isn't rehashing what you've just described about the projectile.
For such a large channel, considering the number of comments, it's remarkable that you take the time and devote so much attention to the comments section, replying to comments, and last but not least, reading each and every single comment. I think that deserves a lot of praise, because that's anything but common on UA-cam nowadays.
Appreciate you. 🤝🏻👍🏻
I think it is important. Plus it bugs me when I ask a question on even tiny channels and they just ignore me.
Always a like and a complete watch with your uploads Jeff . I forget how many years I've been subbed and enjoyed every one of them . Thanks for some of the best content on youtube .
thank you!
Somedays you’re the windshield, some days you’re the bug.
Thanks for another great video, Jeff & ‘crew’!
I was impressed by how stable those things were flying. Seemingly perfect rotation and arrow straight.
Thanks, Jeff and Joe, I know you're having problems with the sights, so I don't blame you for mechanical troubles. I still enjoy the show, keep up the good work. God Bless and stay safe.
The ingenuity & skills some of the creators of the projectiles provide for Mach testing seldom ceases to amaze Me , equally amazing are skills of the person not just behind the camera filming these events but the same person has used his expertise to somehow make them function in an acceptable manner , and finally the person behind the Mass Accelerator who must clearly know what they are doing so that they collide with the medium intended . Well Done every body and Thanks for another Great episode of Taofledermaus . Catch You next episode . Shoot Straight Stay Safe & Stay Well.
I cannot express how awesome this channel is. The attention to detail and figuring stuff out is impressive.
thank you!@
I truly enjoy getting to the comment section before the "UA-cam experts" show up to criticize the minutiae. Great content as always, Jeff. You keep Mach'in, and I'll keep watchin'.
Great video, brother. "You make it we Mach it" is about the rounds folks make and them testing or needing a little more work or work like Champs. Thanks for the content, as always. 🤙🏽
thanks!
As a competitive trap , skeet and sporting clays shooter not to mention being a shotgun instructor , your shooter has to stop raising his head when he pulls the trigger . This is a common reaction in shooters . It’s an involuntary reaction not done on purpose. I thank him for taking the Time to do this video for us . Thanks so much for all your hard work for us !……
Stunning Video, thanks Jeff and Guestshooter, always fun to watch. But the cherry on the cake is always the commentary during the shooting. Love it. Keep up your good entertainment. Blessings from South Africa.😊
thanks!
No matter what happens during your videos, it’s always awesome. Thank you
Neat slug idea! Maybe Brian can send you some more seeing as the difficulties encountered didn't really give it a fair shake. Thanks for coming out Brian! Excellent shooting!
Keep up the great work guys! I always look forward to your videos and each new one feels like a tiny Christmas gift :)
Guest shooter is appreciated, as always. Thank you for helping get this content made. And thanks to Jeff for always making these interesting videos
I’m glad this slug is visible unlike all of those other slugs that are transparent.
It would be rad to have a time capsule containing a hard drive of some sort with compilation videos of all kinds of unique slugs & rounds.
People in the future with their floating a.i. powered *redacted* probably be like "Whaaat? They had to hold & aim the *redacted* all on their own?"
Lots of fun when you have no front sight.
I've done a bit of that recently myself in another way.
We've been having a problem with pigeons (imports, not the natives) in our workshop and the way I've found best to get rid of them is to shoot a couple in each area that they use.
The problem with this is that we can't let the public see it happening.
I'm only using a .22 air rifle but it's a pretty heavy duty one and looks bigger than what it is.
The pigeons like to roost over the entrance doors and roof supports so I'm aiming out to a shaded area above a daylight space with basic iron sights from around 15 meters to stay out of sight of road traffic.
I gave up on trying to use the sights and just went back to side of barrel alignment. At that range, good enough. Killed 7 out of 9 so far and they've stopped coming back
Thank you Joe for being our launch controller for today.
I just found your channel last week and ive watched 30 videos. I love your content. Hey bring back OG, he's great.
thanks Cody
@taofledermaus thank you for responding. That means alot.
I don't know why I like to watch these videos before bed time.
Jeff, always a Gentleman with entertaining content and thought-provoking information. Thank you!
thanks!
Thank you Joe for your stepping in. Nice work both of you.
"Just go and do precise hit" had me rolling.
If everything went to plan how boring would that be, almost the first line of one of OGs many band songs. As ever Brian excellent entertainment!
I've said it before, many things can go wrong. Surprisingly we can't blame my powder recipe this time!
I hope one day a camping table manufacturer will sponsor Jeff...
Of course we still enjoyed the video. We all have good days and the occasional bad day. You still entertained us for a while. Thanks and kindest regards from Scotland.
I love that slogan on the optic's box "Just go and do precise hit!" say that next time your guest shooter misses a shot.
Lol that was some great Chingrish
Murphy's Law gets you every time.
despite the problems with the sites, you did a fine job Joe, hope to see more of you on the channel.
thanks
@@taofledermaus all the thanks goes back to you Jeff, and all the guest shooters, we've met some fantastic people on your channel.
I think one day we are going to see that table just implode in on itself. You could ask Scott at KB, I am sure he's got a few spare tables... or remains you can use to make one good table. Pretty nice slug, and great video as always.
We don't intentionally destroy stuff like table, I value things too much to do that
@@taofledermaus Exactly. That was my point. I'm tired of the intentional blowing up of expensive firearms for views. I barely watch his stuff anymore. To me, it seems he's saying, "Look how rich you guys have made me!". I like your channel, no theatrics, some corny jokes, lots of fun, "guy/girl" off the street guest shooters and interesting stuff that is educational.
I'm shocked, *SHOCKED* I say. Rifling didn't make everything better by not correcting for bad aim.
That support bar hit was superb!
Equipment malfunction happens to us all at some point! Even watching slow motion of those rounds flying past the target was pretty cool, just shows how a good round keeps stable over longer distances. And when it does hit something that awesome! Great shooting by Joe especially with no sights! You keep on putting outvthe videos I'll keep watching them!
Appreciate all these cool slugs and your awesome guest shooters. The ability to stay cool even under duress was fantastic. Showing even when things go wrong is part of what makes your channel real and beloved by myself.
thank you Tracy
That one shot was a real melon-splitter!
"Up to my first knuckle of my index finger, which is one inch, believe it or not, try it sometime." You'll have to buy me dinner first, sir.
Always fun to see this stuff. Ya'll are awesome!
I had the "Visible V-8" engine model when I was a kid (early 1970s) Still a car and motorcycle "nerd" 50 years later!
Good job guys!!! Sucks about the failures… but its still great content!!
Well, I guess that's why they call them a scatter gun. 😅😅😅
It was a good day, you found a problem & figured out what the fix needs to be.
Thank you for the video
Thanks for the scammer shoutout, just reported one myself.
Always a great video.
One suggestion… a large marge cardboard panel behind the targets to see where the rounds go beyond the target.
The HS camera pretty much shows where the misses are going
@@taofledermaus Of course, the high-speed shows a lot, but it would be nice to see some physical evidence beyond the target.
@@taofledermaus and I’m talking about all the shots, including those missed.
@@taofledermaus You could place the cardboard pieces at variable lengths behind the target to see what sort of deflection each target causes.
Video was awesome as usual! Cannot wait for you to get O.G back 💪👊💥😁 Thank you Jeff for all your GREAT WORK!!
thanks!
Yeah good epoxy is extremely tough, I had no doubt at all that it would hold up.
Cool slug!
Thanks Jeff . And thanks Bakersfield Joe . These slugs good or bad, still are awesome to watch.
"Nerd VPN won't protect you from being a sucker!"
True, ID10t Error can strike in the best designed systems.
Great video, I have watched a number of your videos where you had a few small malfunctions. And I know it happens, but anytime I am testing I take two weapons that are similarly equipped but for sure same caliber. Just a suggestion, again I like watching what you guys do. Thanks!!
Thanks. I thought it was fascinating that the slugs performed so well. Very much enjoy your videos.
Greg accidentally swims from Scotland to another country again, creates yet another international incident.
(Just busting on OG, it's expected at this point.)
Great video, sorry about the red dot going weird on you.
Kentucky never shoots above the chronograph. He directly shoots at it point blank with the 4-bore. Kentucky is the GOAT.
ok
That slug has serious potential.
Use Kentucky windage, forget about those fancy schmancy red dots.🤨
Always bring a spare gun.
Interesting fact related to the video title?
In the UK people from Sunderland in the north of the UK are colloquialy called "Mackems". It comes from WW2 and the ship building industry. They had massive shipyards and built a lot of the Royal Navy destroyers. The phrase goes "We mackem, they attack 'em"
(We make them, they attack them)
The sight may be a huge one too! Oh my gosh haha.
Good try on the new slugs guys, I fully understand the experimental aspect of things. I just wish that my whole week wasn't ruined because of this video
So, Jeff/geoff...it is reminiscent of the earlier days of the channel. It Is Ok...still because you know it...things change outside of our control. And I am still here even after the cut 22 projectiles and other weird stuff. That is the stuff that keeps us all watching. Thanks for a great psa!
thanks Tom
Never underestimate the strength of epoxy. And perhaps consider a simple bead sight. They do work!
Those nuts are some kind of alloy. We used them as security nuts for assembling beds fixtures and such when I worked for WI DOC
If life gives you loose red dot you make... well you just aim somehow anyway. Very cool slug, unexpectedly it hold together.
Your channel is one of the only channels that replied to an old video of Danny. I just appreciate the interaction, it was several years ago, and I think it was real. Could be wrong. Anyways, back to the video.
I do try to interact as much as I can. I mean, why leave a comment if it is going to get ignored!?
Awesome. I'm so excited to see some of these slugs you showed in the other day
i miss officer Greg
A very stable slug despite the sight issues
Suggestion: Bushnell makes a magnetic bore sighting tool. It's very useful for in the field. I've used it in the USA and in Africa to check my guns zero. We also use it in the gun shop. No arbors needed.
Thanks to you and Joe for a good video.
I blame the shooter, Greg for not showing enough leg, Jeff and his cheap camera, no tarp, not taping down the ballistics gel, the lead plate casting, the red dot, no red dot, no rifling, rifling, the sun , the clouds, the cold, the heat, Danny for not fixing that front sight, and that one fly. And don't get me started on your choice of targets!
Those seem like great slugs. With functioning sights you can hit whatever you like with those. Great shot on the melon with just guessing the windage and elevation.😉👍
Thanks for coming back and shooting Joe!
nice job joe, great shooting. og and danny are hard personalities to stand in for. I don't talk much because I have no filter. when I do say something its exactly what I'm thinking, so I typically won't say much to spare people my harsh nature. back to the content, good stuff I enjoyed that, thank you gentlemen.
thanks
That wonky optic was a bit of a bummer, but the shots that connected worked well enough.
Lol , we can't blame my powder recipe on this at least
I hate targets that play Hide-and-Seek.
Laughed out loud when I heard "try it sometime" 🤣
Failure is always an option, and an opportunity to learn.
These are awesome. Makes me want to snag the security bolts off of some trailers at work to make some.
Results may not have been the best but it still seems like a very functional slug that is stable and hits reasonably hard. I'm always curious what the "real world' cost of the individual rounds would work out to.
Great shoting joe!! Couldnt imagine the pressure of shooting rounds not knowing how accurate they are going to be! Great job!
It's quite a bit different than just shooting factory ammo!
@@taofledermaus I bet!! Plus the ballistic engineers in the comments waiting to complain. They will always be there, but they are a very small part of this amazing community, and some people just need to complain about something! Well done again to Joe for helping you out, im incredibly jealous he got to spend time on the range. He did great and hope he enjoyed!
You need to join the video group that Forgotten Weapons and Bloke on the Range and others have created. I subscribed it's terrific. If you got on board I'd never need youtube.
