I use to watch your videos when I was reading at middle school and now I am at high school you are literally a God at Origami i hope you keep making vidoes and never give up you are a very good person for me, you deserve 1 million subs :)
I'm really happy about this video, cause you usually make easy as simple origami (which is also cool)! But a complex or intermidiate model every now and than I always AMAZING Happy folding from Texas! Thanks Jeremy ✌️😀
I've always wanted to fold a Mantis but the models were too complicated. I find this figure quite realistic and not impossible to fold...The tutorial is very good as always. Thank you...
Yes my favorite insect!! I used to have so many as pets and they would last for about a year, sometimes longer! That's if I could take care of them from baby to adulthood. Awsome video!! I know you probably work so hard on these. Keep going!
Thanks David for expressing that. I love it! I sleep almost every night with this video playing: ua-cam.com/video/dIFvht9RKOI/v-deo.html To me it's so relaxing, like asmr, and I hope some of the French actually seeps in. It's neat to imagine that some people find my voice equally as relaxing.
Hey Jeremy, I Really Love Your Videos And You Have Really Inspired Me to Make All Different Types Of Origami! I Hope I Can Make Something So Cool like The Big Bang Flasher One Day! Thank You 🙏
I get my Kami from Daiso. It’s an actual store near where I live in San Francisco California, but you can get it online Pretty much any origami paper that says origami paper will be good for folding.
You always surprise me with different models at different times!!! I don't even know how you are coming up with these things! and by the way how are you making so many!!!??
Your videos are awesome... but if you truly are an origami legend, will you be able to design an origami video game action model in which you can actually play??
I suppose you could make some sort of a crimp on the body to achieve that, but if you look at pictures of praying mantises, a lot of them are straight like this one: www.islandssounder.com/news/praying-mantis-beautiful-but-invasive/
After all the pre-creasing and accordion sinking, I’m not clear on which becomes the head, legs, and abdomen. I ended up making something decent, but I cannot help but think that it could have been better if you specifically pointed out what was what…. you feel me?
It really could have gone either direction since the head and tail are identical. The two middle appendages are slanting toward one side but the model is still basically symmetrical until you start shaping two long appendages to be the rear legs and the other two to be the arms. So that’s why I didn’t specify because either side can be folded into the arms or legs.
@@jeremyshaferorigami oh, so I did do it right. I suppose not knowing that I was on the right track was what made the experience unsettling for me. Thanks Jeremy.
thank you for making this model because recently I thought for making a praying mantis by satoshi kamiya but it was very difficult only made it to step 40 . yours is very simple (compared to the other one )
Jeremy shafer i just think your a very good origami folding person cause you amost know how to fold everything and you can create and imagine stuff thats a pro!
When I was watching UA-cam I happened to get a video recommended to me of a praying mantis that could even catch a hummingbird and I learned other crazy facts about the praying mantis and that inspired me to try to fold one out of origami. I looked on UA-cam and I found Joe Nakashima’s tutorial for Robert Lang’s praying mantis and I thought I could definitely improve on it and so I went for it. The approach that I used was basic pleat sinking and I chose not to make antennas because that simplified the model and because the antennas on real praying mantises are very thin and at a distance almost not even noticeable.
In most of my videos at the beginning I showcase the paper I use including zooming in so you see the name brand and serial number. But in any case, I mostly use Daiso kami -- square paper in sizes 6-inch, 7-inch and 10-inch that is colored on one side and white on the other. Any "origami paper" that is colored on one side and white on the other will work well for most of my models. Daiso is the Japanese equivalent of the Dollar Store, where most items are $1.50. I live near a physical location of Daiso, so I can get packages of kami for the $1.50 price. Daiso also has a store on Amazon but the prices are more expensive than in the actual physical store. I link several of their papers from their amazon store on my amazon shop recommendations page: www.amazon.com/shop/jeremyshaferorigami Hope that helps!
I quit shortly due to: the flap was messed up and it ripped and when I folded it, it wasn't a star anymore. It seemed like it was gonna be good.. but it failed.
Well this is a challenging model to make, i have to sit for hours and watch the video while making this model but i think it will be worth having a mantis as pet in India 😜

Not complex like kamiya's
