      @@jam-ss2jc so you can't 'confidently' say infrastructure is comparable. I have been visiting IIT Chennai and Bombay for my work, and have done research (physically) at a mid-tier American research university. I can say that there is still a large gap in the infrastructure, facilities, and instruments required for research at IITs. Talent and excellent professors at IITs compensate for that gap.

    • @ala7515
      @ala7515 2 роки тому

      @@jam-ss2jc I think that could be an appropriate comparison; in south Asia IITs, IISC, TFRI, etc. could be better in terms of infrastructure and quality of technical education. In my opinion, infrastructure is not the only problem. Companies that provide sophisticated instruments, reagents, material, etc. required for R&D are not in India. India or private companies need to build in-house capability to produce material/equipment that supports R&D. The way to build this life cycle is that the government provides a large research funding to these institutions, this is an impetus for private companies to build research equipment&material and demand-supply life cycle then continues.

    1. We have kids aged 12, 13 who have changed their middle/last names with mothers names.
    2. I came across a person in a MNC who was a man last year, and is a woman today☺️.
    3. I came across a blind HR head at a US based MNC in Bangalore.
    How cool is it.

    Excellent quality discussion! Really enjoyed the discussion on philosophy in particular. Thanks for the complements on IIT. I am an IITian myself. While pleasant to hear, let me offer some candid commentary. Firstly, I am not sure, 95 percent of full professors even in India will pass the IIT entrance exam competitively so you are likely being a bit tough on the Pakistani education system. Nor does the toughness of the exam have a great correlation with school educational standards in India in general. Even the quality of IIT professors was candidly average and somewhat variable compared to what you will find in the US. It is the entrance exam selection which has made the difference historically in developing the IIT brand. The IITs are now making a strong push to raise the quality of research as well but this is a recent phenomena and there is some wood to be chopped on this front.
    Coming to the entrance exam, students prepare used to prepare for the IIT entrance exam (JEE) through two years of intense self study in my day. School in the last 2 years was not highly relevant (in fact we skipped classes to prepare) because the entrance exam curriculum itself was quite a bit more more expansive than school curriculum. We studied Russian math books, Resnick and Halliday for Physics etc. books and materials that they use in college courses everywhere else including the US. Nowadays, aspirants use a lot more in person coaching classes, but it is still primarily self study. Nothing you can’t replicate in Pakistan. Start with copying the format of this exam (modifying as necessary).You may not even need to set up a separate institute. Just having a tough entrance exam for an elite program at say LUMS may be a good starting point. It may take many years to build the brand itself, but build it and the best students in Pakistan will likely come.

    I highly appreciate his views on science and technology and the corruption that is taking place in the name of science in Pakistan. But I think every guy should remain in his domain of expertise and not try to belittle or make fund of things which he does not understand like the religion of Islam. Islam never says that you should not seek medical attention or use the latest treatment in medicine. In fact it is highly recommended to seek medical attention. So the fact that he used this false argument to make this justification against religion shows that he is not an expert in this field and should abstain from giving advice in areas which are beyond his knowledge. I think this is what he tries to preach and does not practise this when it comes to religion.

    Sir I am sorry but you have not sufficiently studied the Islamic philosophy. We do have Mullah Sadra, Nasir ud Din Tusi, Ibn e Sina, Mir Baqir Damad and many more philosophers in Islam. Plus Islam has a very profound political philosophy. It's so strange that you have given such blunt opinions without doing justice to the topic.

    Dr. Hoodbhoy, not sure how an academician of your stature (who always stood for evidence-based conclusions) suddenly departs from it and speculates on politics not backed by an iota of evidence. What a pity if learned people like Dr. Hoodbhoy and Co. aligns with the imbeciles and start tooting their horn.
    Please don't get me wrong here. My comments are specific to Dr. Hoodbhoys write-ups in daily Dawn where he sides with MNS/MSS/AAZ point of view and openly criticizes IK's policies with scant regard for logic and reason and totally divorced from evidence-based reporting. And I am posting them here since Dawn does not publish my comments. My apologies for using the wrong window to air my views.
    Branding IK as a "cult" so I politely ask, where does Dr. Hoodbhoy place dynastic politics? Is that appropriate and conducive to the progress of Pakistan?

    101: موجوده زمانہ میں مذہب اور سائنس کے درمیان جو نظریاتی ٹکراو ہوا وه اکثر غیر ضروری تها- جن چیزوں کو مذہب کے خلاف فرض کر لیا گیا ان کا تعلق نہ مذہب کی مخالفت سے تها اور نہ موافقت سے- اس کی ایک مثال ارتقاء کا نظریہ ہے-
    مگر خالص علمی نقطہ نظر سے دیکهئے تو یہ کوئی مسئلہ نہیں تها- نظریہ ارتقاء بالفرض صحیح ہو، تب بهی مذہب کے ساتھ اس کا کوئی ٹکراو نہیں ہے- کیونکہ نطریہ ارتقاء جس چیز سے بحث کرتا ہے وه خدا کا وجود یا عدم وجود نہیں بلکہ صرف یہ کہ ذی حیات اشیاء کا نشو نما و ارتقاء کیسے ہوا- وه خالق کے مسئلہ کا جواب نہیں بلکہ طریق تخلیق کے مسئلہ کا جواب ہے، خواه خالق کوئی بهی ہو- چنانچہ مسلم محقیقین جو عسائی علماء کی طرح غلط عقائد کی پیچدگی میں مبتلا نہیں تهے، انهوں نے بروقت اس نکتہ کو محسوس کیا اور اس کی صراحت کی-
    مثال کے طور پر طرابلس کے شیخ حسین الجسر(1909-1845) کو پیش کیا جاسکتا ہے- انیسویں صدی میں جبکہ عسائی علماء نظریہ ارتقاء کو مذہب دشمن قرار دے کر سائنس دانوں سے لڑ رہے تهے، شیخ جسر نے اپنی کتاب" الرسالہ الحمیدیه فی حقیقه الدیانه الاسلامیه" میں نشاندہی کی کہ نظریہ ارتقاء کا مذہب سے کوئی ٹکراو نہیں ہے- کیونکہ بالفرض وه صحیح ہو تب بهی وه صرف خدا کی طریق تخلیق پر روشنی ڈالتا ہے، نہ کہ خدا کے وجود کی نفی کرتا ہے، جیسا کہ خود ڈارون نے اس کو یہی حیثیت دی ہے- ڈارون کے نزدیک ارتقاء سے خدا کے وجود کی نفی نہیں ہوتی بلکہ صرف یہ معلوم ہوتا ہے کہ خالق کا طریق تخلیق کیا تها-
    اہل مذہب کو اس معاملہ میں فتوی اور مناظره کا انداز چهوڑ کر یہ کہنا چاہئے تها کہ ارتقاء کے حق میں سائنٹفک دلائل پیش کرو- اس کے بعد انهیں معلوم ہوتا کہ اس نظریہ کے حق میں کوئی سائنٹفک دلیل موجود ہی نہیں-
