I'm building a 55 bel air also. The only thing original is the roof , sail panel behind the back window and cowl. It has new floor , truck pan , narrow wheel house and doors . When I removed everything I had the skeleton on a body cart welded down . The door gap on both sides at the top is horrible. And the trunk on the passenger side along the gutter is terrible. All the metal came from golden star. Do you have this fitment problem. I'm a small business restoration shop and have built a half dozen cars but never had this many problems with poor fitment. I took a million measurements and kept very close during assembly but this is horrible. I will probably have to make alot of medications around both doors and the deck lid on passenger side. I watched you put quarters on the same car and noticed you left the door jam and welded quarters to them.
Michael, yeah aftermarket sheet metal is always tough...we have used all the brands out there, and they all need tweeking. We leave the factory door jam as a good reference point for gaps, but all the aftermarket metal needs to be cut and moved around for proper fitment. If you look through our build galleries on our website you will see more of our fab work when replacing TriFive sheet metal...maybe you'll see something that might help your battle with the 55 project.
And that is why these builds cost so much. Details, details, details. Looking great!!!
Thanks...yeah, these cars take a lot more work & time than many people realize. Thanks for watching!!
I am so envious of y'all's skill
