  • It is a legal requirement to ensure your HGV has no defects before it is taken on the public highway.
As part of your duties as a driver, a pre-use shift check must be carried out. The pre-shift checks should be recorded, signed, dated and retained for inspection etc.
Normally checks should take approximately 15 minutes to complete. A record must be kept, even if no defects are found.
This video goes through most of the items that should be checked.
We hope it will be of use.

Sean Pargeter Well I'm glad you did bother. I passed my Mod 4, 2 months ago with 100% and first time. I don't think I could have passed it without your videos.

Hydraulic oil is also used for the power steering wheel . I don't know if in the same jar , and let's not forget about the brake fluid .

You didn't fully open the back doors and check if in good condition , in the same time some immigrant's can hide in there waiting for a free transport to their destination . Check for crack's , hole's , spillages on the bed you may be rejected at the collection point . Check for hole's in the roof sides etc .

Because it is a shitty video compilation, this company could not get one person to do the walk around checks but instead, they got several individuals recordings and make a patch up job. That tells me how professional they are, lol
Is like if all of them tried to make the same walk around checks but they all forgot something so they cut it and mix the instructors into one check.
In this video thery needed about 5 people to tell you the same thing, lol

@@LordOfThunderUK He's actually a very nice guy, and his actions are well intentioned. The driving industry has changed vastly since I first started doing it, I left the industry in 2014, and I'd never go back, but plenty of drivers new to the industry need to know what's required of them in this day and age.

This is very messy and difficult to follow, please re-do this video! You've got cross fades with voices overlapping, you've got three different people with different delivery style, we are jumping about all over the place in and out the cab from section to section and back. This is not a walk round check that can be followed as it is not in a logical and easy to execute order.
What is needed is a straight forward talk through the most efficient way to do your checks from approaching the vehicle right the way through to driving off in real time and in an order that makes sense and makes best use of the time in the cab and out of the cab without jumping in and out several times. It needs some thought to suggest the best sequence.
I would suggest starting with ALL the checks you can do in the cab first after inserting your tacho card (that was a good point by the way - to record the check time as other work) and then move onto all the outside checks including lights. The only check you can't do solo is brake lights I guess unless you carry a mirror stand with you ;-D. I don't think I would even look for oil or fluids underneath first as that may distract me from putting my card in, I rfeckon priority is to get the tacho card in THEN do the checks, just make sure looking for leaks plus stepping back and looking at the level of the truck is the first check on getting out.
    Cheers
    Guy
