    Marty & Chris Poland are both legends. Hard to decide between the two for me, Marty's solos were more iconic but Poland had more of a sinister sound that I love.

    I can get his fretting hand being so fast but, not quite for his picking technique at that speed :D :D. I want you to try playing solos with his picking style, would love to see that.

    Awesome! I'm a big Marty fan too myself, from his Cacoophony and solo work to his contributions in the classic '90s era Megadeth! He's definitely an iconic player with his own recognizable style!
    Even though my favourite classic 'deth record remains Peace Sells But Who's Buying? (Chris Poland is another underrated player IMO, so distinctive and talented) I discovered Megadeth with Countdown To Exctinction and the first Marty solo I listened to was the Symphony Of Destruction one! I was instantly hooked! I didn't even know his name, but that quirky phrasing left me speechless! Gonna have a blast watching this one! Cheers Rob, as always you're the man! 👊🏻

    Back in the day i had the 2 Cacophony albums & his solo record Dragons Kiss, so when he landed the Megadeth gig you kinda knew Mustaine had got himself a true Shrapnel shredder ! At the time the music was awesome, everyone i knew was happy when they bought the Rust In Peace album, when something is good its usually years/decades later when we really begin to appreciate how "fantastic" it was/is. Its also very heartwarming to know we still have these guys around making & playing music. Super video Rob, thank you Sir. Cheers...

    I had the chance to catch Marty at a clinic he made for the Musician Institute and he only played "clean", no gain whatsoever (a student even complained about that at some point) but the result was stunning because he was left with only his touch and choice of notes to make an impression (in front of like 1000 guitar students which is not your usual live attendance !) and he really pulled it off big time. Hardly any mistake and out of this world phrases à gogo :-) Btw, there is an often overlooked Megadeth album with Friedman, and that's "Cryptic Writings".... it's more commercial than their usual stuff but it's a minor masterpiece imho and the production values (courtesy of Dan Huff) are just phenomenal... they never sounded so big, past or present.

    • @80s_kid
      @80s_kid 3 місяці тому

      I think a lot of people like that era. And the record before it (Youthanasia) is probably the band's best in terms of songs, production and vocals. Yes, it's not as fast as the "holy cow" Rust in Peace which is usually mentioned as Megadeth's magnum opus but in overall I like Youthanasia better than Rust. (It doesn't mean that the Rust is not great.)

    I love it when i come across never before seen footage. The classic Megadeth lineup has a special place in my heart. I remember a similar culture forming around the mr Crowley solo. There were comparisons between randy vs jake e lee vs zakk vs gus g.

    What a treat to hear Marty slay those solos hearing only the guitar! I also have always wanted to be able to play that cool clean part of Holy Wars, but have failed miserably so far. Haha

    So I have a bit of a “less is more” approach onstage, mostly for stage monitors as I’m not big on IEM personally. I just have my guitar, main vox, and my backups. I hear drums plenty well enough onstage, and I don’t personally need bass!

    Marty was the reason I started to like Megadeth, being a young guitar player in the 80 ies, shrapnel records was the shit! Becker, Friedman, Kotzen Paul Gilbert. Then Marty joined Megadeth, and from there Thrash was the number 1 genre for me, still is!

    Hey Rob, digging your solo work, just got my hands on it.
    Would you consider doing more reaction videos? I'd be interested in hearing you pick apart Poland, Kiko etc and sharing your thoughts.
    Ever considered doing a podcast?

    • @RobArnoldWorld
      @RobArnoldWorld  Місяць тому

      Thanks man! I'm not really into reaction videos, but I did talk a little about all post-Friedman Megadeth guitarists in this video: ua-cam.com/video/13BGWMlUQsc/v-deo.html
      I've really been digging Teemu lately... his precision is fantastic, and I love how much care and effort he puts into playing every solo note for note, the way we're all used to hearing them. And it's all done with such confidence. He's a monster
      I'd love to do a podcast, but I I wouldn't want to start from scratch, and I already feel like I could do everything a podcast does, with the UA-cam channel I've got.

    Hmm nobody mentioned The Killing Road solo, it has roots with Tornado. Again we have this comparison crap that is completely irrelevant to the song. Here is why, without Dave Mustaine you have nothing, he gave Marty the solo with the chord structure he was playing, just one different chord and that solo never existed. So thank you Dave Mustaine for bringing out Martys creativity. Personally I think Kiko kicks ass over all of them, then I can put Poland, Friedman and Broderick all in a tie for 2nd. Kiko has Marty play on a song from Open Source album. Eminent Threat is a kick ass tune, let me know when you think Marty comes in. It will test your ear. Thank God for Megadeth the best metal band on the planet !!

  • @mylogify
    @mylogify 3 місяці тому

    I listened to the Tornado* and I think the lead part is way too quiet, almost barely audible. In Metallica songs it doesn’t happen, you hear every notes on the solo and rhythm isn’t overriding the solo part. Kind of a shame…
