There's just something different about epic metal that normal pop/rap songs aren't, it's different in the good sense

Instruments need to match the power of the vocals

I know I'm late to reply but here's my take:
They don't need to do anything.
All that matters is if the song works together and sounds good and it does
The vocals are indeed the focus but they also back up the instruments in an interesting way that works for them
It feels different from some bands somehow the way it works, where the voice highlights the instrumentals but the instrumentals prioritize the vocals.
I'm in no way knowledgeable on music but that's my take
