  • Bethlehem Evangelical Lutheran Church in Germantown, Wisconsin broke ground on its newest facility on Sunday, June 23rd immediately following the 9:15 am worship service. The long-anticipated addition will feature a worship sanctuary, a large gathering space, and a fellowship hall for Bible study and ministry groups.
A worship space on the corner of Hwy 145 and Bel Aire Lane was always part of the plan when the school was built in 2000. Since then, growing enrollment at the school for pre-K to 4th grade and childcare necessitated adding more classrooms instead of a worship facility. The congregation has been holding services in the gymnasium for 24 years.
Bethlehem Church President Dave Seager reflects, “Over the years, the Lord has blessed our congregation tremendously. The fact that we’re finally able to begin construction on this church speaks to His goodness and the heart-felt generosity of our Bethlehem family.”
Originally, church leaders thought construction would kick off in 2025 due to the time needed to manufacture and source key materials. But they recently received good news from their construction company, Catalyst, that delivery times are significantly less. The project is now scheduled for completion in late summer 2025.
The Germantown campus is one of Bethlehem’s two locations. The congregation also has a worship space and a school for 5th through 8th grades in Menomonee Falls, which is where the church was founded in 1960. Sunday services are held at 8:00 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. in Menomonee Falls and at 9:15 a.m. in Germantown.
Long-time Bethlehem member Erich Schmandt says, “I think a new sanctuary like this shows how many members are so thankful for their faith in Christ; and with their generosity, we are able to build a sanctuary with a welcoming and warm atmosphere. I’m excited that this new facility will allow more people to feed their faith and quite possibly be the first place that someone hears the good news of salvation won through Christ.”
Bethlehem’s mission is growing disciples to know, love and serve their Savior Jesus and their community. A large emphasis is placed on the spiritual growth of members through worship and Bible study, which results in their desire to share their faith and show God’s love in the community. Bethlehem welcomes the community to annual events such as Vacation Bible School, Trunk or Treat, Live Nativity, and the Blazer Dash 5K Run/Walk, as well as partnering with local food banks.
