I love this song. Recently lost my wife of forty years. She had blue eyes, but they were not pale. They were as blue as a beautiful sky on a cloudless day.
So much truth in his music. The "dirty" side of life, the pain... the pleasure. We all have it, we all feel it... but Lou put it out there, plain as day. No shame, just being human, just... being. Thank you Lou Reed & RIP
I fell in love with this song when I first heard it as a wounded teenager (weren't we all once?) - now I am closer to the age at which he died, and hearing this recording in his older, matured voice - the Lou Reed on the other side of Magic and Loss - just reaches a depth I can't even find words for. Beyond beautiful. Thank you, my old friend 💕🪄✨
Yes, he did change the lyrics on purpose. He wasn't one for living in the past so if he was going to play his old songs, as classic as perfect as they are, he wanted to change them since he was an everchanging human being...Truly an artist and a poet in every sense - Lou, the best.
guess you are right in that - I just miss the guitar and sound from Velvet Underground days - but all in all its Lou - he could do and did wht he liked eh - one of the very best
some songs just perfectly capture the moment when you fall in love. I believe this is one of them. Mr. Reed more or less saved my life back in '75, He has always sung about love, in all it's different forms. I don't believe that in my lifetime , we will see another like him, or Mr. Leonard Cohen, or Mr David Bowie. Enjoy the music, y'all! God is good. thank you, gz
I went through a break up over a year ago now, we were together 5 years and lived together, I thought I was going to Marry her and have children with her, it still cuts deep to this day, I feel a real connect to this song and it's lyrics more than i ever have, The Velvet Underground and Lou Reed take me back to my teenage years when my group of friends starting finding music for ourselves. I remember my music producer friend lent me the best of cd and it soon became the soundtrack to our teenage antics, I wanna throw my friend some love for all the good times, try searching Lonely Gimmick - All Along the Watchtower, I think he's really talented and deserves more recognition, he records it all himself on is laptop, he's really talented
Unglaublich schön! Danke unser wunderbarer Freund Lou. Wir werden Dich nie vergessen. Deine wunderbare Musik ist Zeitlos. Danke, danke, danke.., ❤️❤️❤️
His voice, really beautiful, one might try but that voice is not imitable, the timing of the words, each one, is really perfect and meant by him to be the way they are. Can listen to this over and over, love the guitarist and the drummer and of course the bass player too. Wonderful that Lou has such an equal in the latter part of his life, an artist and intelligent and as kind as he was also, someone who cares about you for real, what is there better than that.
what a man this song reminds me of all my babies a don't no why but Lou I tell everyone and ppl that ain't herd of him to listen and truthfully they'd be lying if they said they'd not love him x maybe not as much as me
October 1967 seeing VU and CTA at the Whisky A Go Go is my favorite concert memory. Lou gave us several songs that spoke for the era. This is such a sweet song of sad love. Linger on, Lou. You knew us and we knew you.
i love how he sings it differently from the original...... it just to show that the song and lou has evolved throughout the years. man, i can't still believe this was aired 12 years ago, i remember seeing it on TV at the time and was mesmerized at the performance.
One more great musican poetical who is gone...Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, ...so many are no longer here that I couldn't list them all. "when you're gone, you can't come back. Out of the blue and into the black..."
RIP Mr Reed. Yes, he was cynical, brash, maybe downright rude. Yet, I met the man completely by chance in Morocco in the 90s. He was gracious, humble and sincere. It will be one of those days of my life that I will never forget - my "Perfect Day". Thank you, Lou. Enjoy singing with the Angels.
Well, the old classic one is the studio-recorded version from 1969. The album is called " The Velvet Underground" and you can read more about it on wikepedia.org (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Velvet_Underground). This version (the video up above) is ok...it's live..it's good. I just prefere the old version
annie patten Or, you know, it could be that this performance was 30 years after it was originally recorded, and thus some of the passion was no longer there.
Sweet Genius...your musical talent...should have risen to the winds above the cities...Sweet Genius...we will miss you! You brought us togetherness...the human touch...which many don't know anything about....
OMG - know this song from the first vinyl... sure this must have been the best of Lou's evenings. Love the bass play, just as the other guys... Lou knew to gather to finest !!! And, realy, back then I had a cruch ex-act-ly like thsi... a 'femme fatale'
Shame the old guy had to go ...still, with his kind of live we can be gratefull that he hold out so long after all. Lou's songs have been an inspiration and comfort to me for a great part of my live. Thanks mr. Reed, it was a privilege to have been present during two live performances. Missing you but luckily I still can listen to your beautiful songs, RIP.
bob dylan, lou reed, tom waits, van morisson, lenard cohen, neil young, paul simon, these guys, man, i am so grateful, to have been alive when these guys roamed the earth,100 years from now, they will teach bout these artists, the way they do about, mozart, and those artists,today..cept they will call it higher art in 3 chords........
Lou Reed has allways had an ability to construct beautiful melody lines. He has reached in his later years a kind of inner harmony. I liked much his film "Lou Reed's Berlin".
Lou- a true romantic. He writes beautiful melodic love songs which are pure every time he sings them by improvising his lyrics. Then he sings a song like Street Hassle and he takes you on an entirely different emotional trip. Art at its best.
I like the honesty here. I always prefer the original I fell in love with. But I love that Lou Reed sticks to his original lyrics, singing them as he felt them. Of course -- RIP Lou. Thank you so, so much.
Lisa, Not starting an argument here, just stating the facts. You do realize that some of the lyrics (in addition to the melody) are slightly different than the album version. That is OK though, it is what makes live performances special. If all you wanted was how it was on the album, then throw the CD on and listen to that. Something special about Lou playing live is he always made it a unique performance.
Lou sings as he feels it a that moment.. no 2 versions will ever be the same.. some times faster, sometimes slower... words may change, but its what was in his heart that day
If you think Lou reed got the words wrong your clearly not a velvet underground fan. Lou is all about being raw and in the moment. Most of there songs you can find different versions of released on different albums of theirs. This is clearly is his version for that day with what feelings he had at that moment, a much less poppy version than the original, but ALL Lou
I used to wonder why the Lou Reed and the Velvets were such an influence to so many others - for those of you who still do, listening to this song will cement any doubts... It is said that not many people bought Velvet records, but the ones that did, started bands... When I heard REM cover this song on Dead Letter Office, I almost pooped my pants at its beautiful sound - I picked up the electric guitar and never put it down. Thanks Lou, linger on.
I love this song. Recently lost my wife of forty years. She had blue eyes, but they were not pale. They were as blue as a beautiful sky on a cloudless day.
Lovely tribute to your lost love. May u find her again one day! :)
So much truth in his music. The "dirty" side of life, the pain... the pleasure. We all have it, we all feel it... but Lou put it out there, plain as day. No shame, just being human, just... being. Thank you Lou Reed & RIP

Unglaublich schön! Danke unser wunderbarer Freund Lou. Wir werden Dich nie vergessen. Deine wunderbare Musik ist Zeitlos. Danke, danke, danke.., ❤️❤️❤️
Beautiful song and no one can sing it as well as Lou Reed. And, others have sang this beautiful song but only he can deliver and perfectly sang ❤
Possibly the best version of this song besides the original version, and possibly Reed's best song.
It´s so beautiful, It´s so shine. Miss you Lou!
Linger on....Mr Lou Reed eternamente....
Essa canção é uma das mais perfeitas já feitas por um SER humano...
The Best of all times ...
RIP...
Yessss❤❤❤🇨🇭

Probably his best version of all his great performances of "pale blue eyes "
The version live at La Cave, CLE, 1968, is waaaay better
so touching , so true , so pale blue eyes , keeps us alive
Linger on forever lou thanks for beautiful music
the more i hear it....the more i love it
what a man this song reminds me of all my babies a don't no why but Lou I tell everyone and ppl that ain't herd of him to listen and truthfully they'd be lying if they said they'd not love him x maybe not as much as me

R.I.P. my brother. your music and influence will always linger on. Peace, Jeff T. PGH PA
god, the way he delivers some of these verses....adds so much more to the legend
and the song
It was so cool I got to walk the earth the same time as Lou Reed 🖤
i love how he sings it differently from the original...... it just to show that the song and lou has evolved throughout the years. man, i can't still believe this was aired 12 years ago, i remember seeing it on TV at the time and was mesmerized at the performance.
Amazing poetry put to perfect music.

One more great musican poetical who is gone...Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, ...so many are no longer here that I couldn't list them all. "when you're gone, you can't come back. Out of the blue and into the black..."
Such a beautiful song that I cant stop it in my head!!
Rest in Peace dear Lou. ♥ i love you forever bby.
RIP Lou ..... your music will forever 'linger on' xx
This version is best... Beautiful
The Immortal bard of New York.
this one is tattooed in my heart and marrowbone. But not this version...I stay with the old, classic one...
what is the old classic one and where can I hear it...
Well, the old classic one is the studio-recorded version from 1969. The album is called " The Velvet Underground" and you can read more about it on wikepedia.org (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Velvet_Underground).
This version (the video up above) is ok...it's live..it's good.
I just prefere the old version
this isn't the worst i have ever heard
the original was better but, you have take into consideration that lou was still on heroin during his velvet underground days
annie patten Or, you know, it could be that this performance was 30 years after it was originally recorded, and thus some of the passion was no longer there.
Een van z'n beste nummers, naar mijn gevoel...
This while, and should, end up being Lou's signature song. One man's opinion.
Such a loss to music...I listen to Lou a lot, he reaches the parts other singers often don't. God bless him

Sweet Genius...your musical talent...should have risen to the winds above the cities...Sweet Genius...we will miss you!
You brought us togetherness...the human touch...which many don't know anything about....
Mike Rathke and Lou together are incredible.
RIP Lou. You were a genius.
OMG - know this song from the first vinyl... sure this must have been the best of Lou's evenings. Love the bass play, just as the other guys... Lou knew to gather to finest !!! And, realy, back then I had a cruch ex-act-ly like thsi... a 'femme fatale'

Thanks mr. Reed, it was a privilege to have been present during two live performances. Missing you but luckily I still can listen to your beautiful songs, RIP.
I'm listening to this on headphones. the sound is simply superb. Glad its been posted/shared/enjoyed.
I don't cry ever. This makes me cry. Vale Andrew.
This performance of Lou Reed and his group is so beautiful, deep and well balanced that you'll be disapointed with all the covers.
bob dylan, lou reed, tom waits, van morisson, lenard cohen, neil young, paul simon, these guys, man, i am so grateful, to have been alive when these guys roamed the earth,100 years from now, they will teach bout these artists, the way they do about, mozart, and those artists,today..cept they will call it higher art in 3 chords........
Yet again the World have losed one of it's great Sing & Song writer ~
a Poet of his time!
Just the most beautifull song ~ RIP Mr. Lou Reed
How can 73 people give this sweet version thumbs down?
probably because, like me, the onlyother version they heard was that of Sheryl and Emmylou
Lou Reed has allways had an ability to construct beautiful melody lines. He has reached in his later years a kind of inner harmony. I liked much his film "Lou Reed's Berlin".
Per creare una tale melodia, serve solamente un genio della musica. R.i.p Lou
Absolutely brilliant songwriting, people vary about their acceptance of Lou as a performer, but that just shows their weakness as human beings.
I don't want Lou to thank me. It brings him down to mere mortal status.
Wow, Lou is my favorite!
..pure music..words..style..emotions..lost in this time so empty..
Lou- a true romantic. He writes beautiful melodic love songs which are pure every time he sings them by improvising his lyrics. Then he sings a song like Street Hassle and he takes you on an entirely different emotional trip. Art at its best.

So beautiful. Thanks Lou.
Best love song ever.RIP Lou, great master. Such an influence on my life.
Descansa en paz. Genio. Te vamos a extrañar.
Great solo Mike Rathke and, as usual, master class drumming from Tony Smith.
RIP Lou! What an amazing song.

=( RIP Lou Reed. Thanks for joining us for.
Goodbye, Lou. Your music changed my life. Linger on... x

3 chords and a sonic landscape, that was Lou Reed !
Still unbelivable
R.I.P. brother
Perfect moment with Lou Reed RIP men.
