Thinking of the nightmare that unfolded on Interstate 95 in my own backyard in Virginia yesterday and today this would be a great to keep in your car as well!!
As soon as you started talking, I said "you live in Texas, this is a realistic thing to prepare for!" I'm very into emergency prep after my town was hit with a horrible storm and I was without power for 10 days. It's so important. This year I'm budgeting for building up my preps and buying a (small) generator!
Also super small and handy that your students could toss in there is one of those small like $5 first aid kits from Walmart. They don’t have much but they do have the basics to bandage and keep a wound clean, which would be essential during something like what happened in TX last year.
This is so thoughtful. Most young folks don't think about that kind of stuff or can't afford it. The plastic is a great idea to cover drafty windows if necessary. Thanks for sharing
Mixing candle wax & paper shreds or dryer lint also makes great fire starters, if you have left over candles or can buy those cheaper. This works great for camping, and we will love having them on hand for our fireplace if/when we lose power this winter.
I love this. I got to duplicate this for our second home. I am well prepared in PNW due to being in an earthquake zone but was nervous in Florida with NOTHING. I have always said one could be well prepared at home and be on vacation and have NOTHING. THANKS !!!
This is such a thoughtful, useful gift!! I'm 1000% sure that they're thankful to you. Even if the freeze doesn't happen again in Texas, it's super likely again to happen again in the future. 💙
Great ideas!! This is very loving to gift and extremly important!! We have emergency bags at home, but I will add a shoebox kit in each of our vehicles too. Virginia's 27 hour snow emergency proves this to be a mandatory item! In the winter, we like to keep a fleece blanket and portable shovel in our car. I'm definitely going to add in emergency food packs and water. 27 hours was a LONG time for those people to be stranded on the highway!!!
This is genius! I know this stuff (old lady with some disaster experience) but young people far from home need this. Especially love the sheet of paper you prepared. Go Sarah!
Thank you!!! We have these things at home already, by the sheer luck of being people who like camping and hiking. I had not considered the idea of putting together boxes on a budget for friends who may need them, this is a great idea!!! I'll be making one for the car, for sure.
We are used to cold & snow up here & they’re relatively proactive, but occasionally we lose power if the storm brings more than just snow. Nor’easters can be windy so this might still be helpful. Thanks for sharing.
God Bless you Sarah for your thoughtfulness, there is a lot there. The little stove was great. If there is room in that shoe box, a pack of facial wipes or the little hand wipes from the dollar tree might be good as well. Thanks again for thinking of them. Have a Blessed day.
Great video- in emergencies it is also important to have CASH on hand- debit / credit cards may not work in power outages, floods etc. Thanks for your great content and care for others! That is so nice of you to make these for the people you care about!
I LOVE this. (Currently realizing how unprepared I am for life). For my emergency kit, I would maybe include some kind of phone charger and maybe an emergency blanket of some kind. Do you have a video re: frugal emergency kit ideas for your car? Thanks for the excellent content!
As I watch your video it is currently -13 in northwestern MN....I was born in TX and spent 25 years there and now 25 years here. Maybe it was my youth but no self respecting teen girl would cover their hair in the 80's in TX. In 15 minutes or less you can have frostbite here. Minnesota nice also stems from....people can DIe without help here in the winter. TX gets ice and not snow typically. Minnesota people drive on ice only because out snow plows have spread salt or a chemical treatment to help melt it. To drive on snow is better. Minnesota people understand that Mother Nature is in charge and she lets you know if you get to leave the house today. The wind makes snow drifts and depending on the type of snow (light dry and fluffly or heavy wet) on whether you might make it through with your vechicle. In the summer (all year round actually) I carry a window punch and seat belt cutter in my car as water/lakes/ponds are everywhere here. Thanks Sarah for bringing these preparations to remind people that it is probably a matter or time that situations will happen.
In an emergency, when you light the candles you can tilt it, drop some wax where you want the candle to sit and then put the candle on the melted wax. It’ll keep the candle still, safely. Just keep it out of the way
The camp fuel should Not be used inside. Gives off dangerous fumes. They work great outside tho. Definitely do research on it. Great little emergency kit.

I love these videos. I'm not a super prepper but I have a small supply of things needed for no power situations. Thank you and keep up the great work!
Thanks for watching!
This is so great. Thank you for this video.
Canadian here and where I am right now, we're in -50 degree C weather. Honestly, preparation is everything. And rotate your goods, everyone!
You are wonderful for thinking of others, awesome prep and gift.
Thank you kindly!

You could save lives with your VERY thoughtful gifts!💗 Wonderful idea!💡
Dollar tree glow sticks eventually don't work. Had some laying around decided to activate them. Nada. None of them worked. Just an FYI.
Awesome! The best high school graduation gift I got was a College First Aid kit!
