The downside for Singapore on the focus on financial instruments is unfortunately increase in cost on actual investments in brick and mortar businesses that produces tangible products and boost long-term employment and employability of the locals. The highly educated and capable will always be able to make their own way, but for the majority of locals in a physically small island with small market, it is vital to facilitate for their future or Singapore will become divided like Hong Kong.
Let me inform LHL & HC that Article 35(8) of the Constitution of the Republic of Singapore giving the Attorney-General discretion as tohis prosecutorial power does NOT protect the manslaughter nor abuse of power charges which should be brought against U. I've said b4, I'd emailed PM LW as to the basis of TH marking its UNLISTED "investments" but hv NOT received ANY reply. As for GIC, the FACT speaks for itself.........that GIC refused to publish the Sing$ equivalent to its asset values & that it does NOT publish details of its size nor composition........which ANY "externally audited" a/c would hv shown. Re: Norwegian sovereign fund etc.

The fact that you are questioning why marking unlisted investments to current value shows that you do not understand accounting or finance that these are common market practice.
