18:30 Originally aiming was an issue. You had to aim while in the passenger seat... Meaning you didn't even see where the thing was tilted at or know where it was pointing. People complained so the devs changed it to that camera angle.
18:50 the old version of aiming was much better and fun to me. You actually had to physically move your vehicle left and right in order to aim and using small hills for more range. But I guess it was too hard for most people to do. (Which I totally understand because it was really hard.)

HL Alyx: This is what he would say about the weapons. I hope in the future we have the technology like Combine Fabricator that allow the user to modified and customize their own guns into any configuration that they want. Alyx 1911+Combine Tech: Okay.....The pistol is now a machine pistol with hologram display sight instead of conventional red dot optic. It also got some sort of ammo reservoir and it reload automatically which is quiet impress. Overall, it's good but a little overengineering and it will cost a lot of money for this pistol. Shotgun+Combine Tech: The weapons look so compact ideal for personal defense weapons. Its got a folding stock remind me of VZ61 Skorpion. The way this thing reload is open like top break and insert each shotgun shell into the tube magazine. Then you close it, rack it and its ready to fire. It got the same hologram display sight like the pistol instead of conventional optic sight. What surprise me the most is autoloader. Those mechanical arms will grab each shell reload your shotgun automatically. Also, why would you need a grenade launcher for shotgun? Shouldn't we have that for assault rifle instead? Pulse SMG+Combine Tech This is probably the first compact size energy weapons used by the Combine. When the player reload the magazine. I thought you gonna insert the whole magazine into the gun. Instead, you just insert that small tiny energy cell and depose the empty magazine which is kind of waste resources if you ask me.
12:30 Rifle muzzle DOWN in helicopters and UP in boats and trucks ! Pretty much common sense in fact ! Heli's engines are above head and boat dont do well with a hole in their hull ! (in case of accidental of negligent discharge) For trucks, it depends.. but we were told that if we bumped on a pothole, it's better for the gun to bounce on the metal floor with their "tip" (muzzle brake or not)
12:05 The reason you would keep your rifle barrel pointed down is so that if by any chance you have a negligent discharge it doesn't go up into the rotor.

We didn't have the sharp shooter when i was British infantry , we had the mighty L86 crow canon ( LSW ) god i hated that weapon lol love the SA80 though still enjoy shooting that I'm still serving just not infantry anymore. I was a minimi gunner in iraq its perfectly fine to shoot form the shoulder not the preferred method as soon as you can't get in a stable fire position then bipod is deployed and the fun begins , however i done contact drills over and over again doing pair fire and movement with the gun basically using it like a full auto rifle. When i was on patrol i used to have a 50 round pouch on my minimi so it was easier to fire form the shoulder in the initial contact if need be , the rest of my rounds where in 100 round pouches and i also had a 200 round box carried 800 rounds all in all. The helicopter thing is correct yes you never put your muzzle in the dirt however a chopper is different you keep the muzzle facing down , just in case there is a ND so the rota or engine dont gets hit. When i was infantry i had been in many heli on op in ireland and iraq and always told to keep the muzzle facing down for that reason .
Would love to see him reacting to the good ol original doom guns just for fun. I look forward to going to the museum once things open up a bit more! give him my thanks for the knowledge and music appreciation. glad he has taste in 2 fine things of higher culture!
Ooh thinking about really detailed and weighty reload animations I'd love to get Johnathan to look at the guns in the original Killzone on PS2. They had some incredible animations and weight to them, and I'd love to see what he thinks of some of the wackier aspects of the weapon design, like the Helghast having a bullpup drum magazine in their assault rifle!
It’s like crack when you play squad. The 2 minutes of euphoria you get running through mortars and maybe going through 10 bullets before getting gunned down is something else lmao
7:45 the move he made i think that it save is life because yes Jonathan was asking this a the start of the video there is in fact a "suppression" effect it blur you view and wen you aim wile supressed your gun move a lot so i think that it save is because the enemy could not aim anymore
yeah slapping your weapon to clear it helps... far cry is so mediocre, in my mind its a game you give to someone who has never played a fps game before... its too cinematic and not in a good way, everything just seems to done because it looks cool. while the core aspects of the game are left alone, which in my opinion would have to the horrible AI, they are blind, simplistic with no group cohesion, they just see enemy shoot a few rounds and hide behind cover. even old games like hl1 and 2 have more interesting enemies, they implement bounding, aggressive flanking and entering and will use grenades to flush an enemy out of cover...
One of the games that had the most realistically working weapons; jamming, getting dirty, and at last - straight up falling apart in hands! Take care of your weapons! and keep them by your side…
IRL, to fire RPG-26 you must remove the safety pin FIRST, and THEN pop-up the rear sight, which is also cocking the fire mechanism. Squad devs take this mistake from their own Project Reality mod for BF2.
I've had to subscribe. This is the 3rd video I've watched of this guy today and it's just brilliant, even for someone with 7 years military service like myself, its interesting to listen to someone with a professional oversight of more nations equipment sitting and talking through it.
ub32 on technical pick up is actually a thing on middle east. Lots of zombie homemade techies are being used including putting a BMP turret on a jeep. I mean, there is no impossible on jihadist as long as it works it works
I have to wonder how John would react to games that REALLY make you count your bullets because there’s a few games that will punish you for reloading every time you shoot one bullet.
Daddy Ferguson is the real deal. I love these videos. his focus on detail and realism rather than "guns go boom" is incredibly refreshing and entertaining. Give this man a pay raise
Never played squad but the realistic ammo management is part of why I love insurgency sandstorm so much. Between that, proximity chat, and shooting through barriers with varying degrees of success it's a really fun game.
The only issue I have with the M4 as someone who plays this game and is also in the military, is the M4 in the game cannot be toggled to automatic, it can only be used in semi or burst. I don't think its an oversight, maybe I'm missing something, but all the M4s I've used are all capable of full auto.
Thing about aiming your weapon down while flying in a heli has to do with the fact, that if the gun goes off it won't hit the blades. While driving in a truck you would hold your gun muzzle up, so you would not hit the gas tank.
Been playing this game (essentially) since Project Reality alpha back in the day and it’s definitely the perfect middle ground between something like Arma and Battlefield! Great game

That was smooth 😂 I’m surprised people haven’t done a “beat soundtrack” using the audio in this game
Moar Squad. Look at the ATGMs, more rocket launchers, and if John is familiar with them, check out the vehicle guns.
Yes, and the grenades, the IED together with the explosion effects and the artillery. The 40mm detonations made him assume the explosion effects aren't as realistic but he really has to see the other explosions.
He's definitely familiar with them

Originally aiming was an issue. You had to aim while in the passenger seat... Meaning you didn't even see where the thing was tilted at or know where it was pointing. People complained so the devs changed it to that camera angle.

You actually had to physically move your vehicle left and right in order to aim and using small hills for more range. But I guess it was too hard for most people to do. (Which I totally understand because it was really hard.)
i love the passion of Jonathan has when he talks about weapons , that why i always hear him focus on what he says.

Such a good game but so little attention, I wised more youtubers/streamers took a look at it.
Absolutely. Jonathan needs to look at that game
Squad has the best sound design I've ever heard in a video game
Check out Post Scriptum as well; the authenticity of the sound design and the visuals is really immersive there.
Tarkov
Squad might sound great, but its actually broken as hell. There's only 3 sound files per gunshot, so if the sound file changes while youre walking up to someone shooting you not only know the direction they're in but the exact distance you are from them as well. Not even counting the lack of any vertical audio clues whatsoever, the sound engine needs a lot of work
Love the part where the other players are like 'Hello Royal Armouries!' :D
I really love these videos. Jonathan is so easy to listen to, and follow. He always has interesting insights into the realism of games. Please keep making these videos. They make my day.

The rocket pod on the pickup view is a gameplay concession. It's just to make it playable not really realistic at all.
It suprised me, i didnt use them in a long time, when that view didnt exist and you would aim from the driver seat whitout seeing the position of the pod. As he said, Just aim in general direction and hope to not tk.

HL Alyx:
This is what he would say about the weapons.
I hope in the future we have the technology like Combine Fabricator that allow the user to modified and customize their own guns into any configuration that they want.
Alyx 1911+Combine Tech:
Okay.....The pistol is now a machine pistol with hologram display sight instead of conventional red dot optic. It also got some sort of ammo reservoir and it reload automatically which is quiet impress. Overall, it's good but a little overengineering and it will cost a lot of money for this pistol.
Shotgun+Combine Tech:
The weapons look so compact ideal for personal defense weapons.
Pulse SMG+Combine Tech
This is probably the first compact size energy weapons used by the Combine. When the player reload the magazine. I thought you gonna insert the whole magazine into the gun. Instead, you just insert that small tiny energy cell and depose the empty magazine which is kind of waste resources if you ask me.
id like it.

Finally, a game with real guns
12:30 Rifle muzzle DOWN in helicopters and UP in boats and trucks !
Pretty much common sense in fact !
Heli's engines are above head and boat dont do well with a hole in their hull ! (in case of accidental of negligent discharge)
For trucks, it depends.. but we were told that if we bumped on a pothole, it's better for the gun to bounce on the metal floor with their "tip" (muzzle brake or not)
12:05 The reason you would keep your rifle barrel pointed down is so that if by any chance you have a negligent discharge it doesn't go up into the rotor.

With the steel panther shirt and his knowlege of the good old games I bet he has something to say about those 2d sprites and low frame animations.
Also for a western themed video call of juarez: gunslinger has some really interesting guns with the schofield and the colt ranger (I guess it was).

One thing I like about Mr. Ferguson here
is he is knowledgeable about guns/firearms which is something I know mediocre amounts about
but wears metal/hard rock band shirts which is something I am knowledgeable in - since I am a musician and have been playing in metal bands since I was 13 (12 years so far).
I look forward to going to the museum once things open up a bit more! give him my thanks for the knowledge and music appreciation. glad he has taste in 2 fine things of higher culture!

Looking forward to seeing the "Firearms Expert Reacts to Battlefield 2042's Guns". Cuz, we absolutely know it's going to happen.. Can't wait!
19:23 Is basically 90% of squad gameplay...and a lot of running and waiting.
"a lot of running and waiting" that alone would make the game realistic.
It’s like crack when you play squad. The 2 minutes of euphoria you get running through mortars and maybe going through 10 bullets before getting gunned down is something else lmao
We should have this series twice a week!! Such a great series
7:45 the move he made i think that it save is life because yes Jonathan was asking this a the start of the video there is in fact a "suppression" effect it blur you view and wen you aim wile supressed your gun move a lot so i think that it save is because the enemy could not aim anymore
On the point of stoppages like he mentioned, I think far cry 2 would be a great one to check out
yeah slapping your weapon to clear it helps... far cry is so mediocre, in my mind its a game you give to someone who has never played a fps game before... its too cinematic and not in a good way, everything just seems to done because it looks cool. while the core aspects of the game are left alone, which in my opinion would have to the horrible AI, they are blind, simplistic with no group cohesion, they just see enemy shoot a few rounds and hide behind cover. even old games like hl1 and 2 have more interesting enemies, they implement bounding, aggressive flanking and entering and will use grenades to flush an enemy out of cover...
Mitri I never said it was realistic, just would make a good video, didn’t need an essay on AI and inaccuracies.
@@zade8586 im just saying its not a very appealing series to do. maybe fc3 which had the gm 94 and surrpressed makarov would be slightly better.

IRL, to fire RPG-26 you must remove the safety pin FIRST, and THEN pop-up the rear sight, which is also cocking the fire mechanism. Squad devs take this mistake from their own Project Reality mod for BF2.
You assume they don't have safety pins removed

I have to wonder how John would react to games that REALLY make you count your bullets because there’s a few games that will punish you for reloading every time you shoot one bullet.

The only issue I have with the M4 as someone who plays this game and is also in the military, is the M4 in the game cannot be toggled to automatic, it can only be used in semi or burst. I don't think its an oversight, maybe I'm missing something, but all the M4s I've used are all capable of full auto.
Base model M4s had semi and burst, but have all been upgraded to M4A1 by now, which is semi/full
@@ThatBruniusGuy yea I noticed that on a game the other day, I guess I over looked it
Thing about aiming your weapon down while flying in a heli has to do with the fact, that if the gun goes off it won't hit the blades. While driving in a truck you would hold your gun muzzle up, so you would not hit the gas tank.
Imagine if Gamespot did one about Payday 2, that would be awesome!
