We are a Christian nation. What purpose or to what end is the Government introducing this bill? Declaring by law what is already known and predominantly practiced is otherwise a wasteful and needless effort. The bill should be perceived as an attempt to creating an obligatory situation for the people and a deviation where freedom of religion and right to associate or affiliate with any religion are constitutionally protected. Have the Government and the Parliament run out of other policy issues and laws to enact or to amend laws that are becoming archaic?
Catholicism is a 2000 + years old institution, and they have a significant influence on European and Western politics and thoughts, which PNG have adopted. They have experiences and lessons learned when you attempt to enforce a religious identity on people. If politicians in PNG Study European History and Religious wars in Europe, they will understand the unintended consequences of playing with religious identity and passively enforcing it for conformity to state laws.

I have reservations. The people in this nation don't act like Christians. Only in word, but deeds are dead and un Christian. Look at the transportation situation. Do bus drivers and taxi drivers act like Christians. They break all traffic rules. They think they own the roads. Look at the general public, the way we pollute our environment. On the roads, market places, streets, school, bus stops, shopping centers, etc. Ethnic groups fighting and killing each other, corruption from the heads to the grassroots, both people who claim to be Christians and the non Christians and people from other religious backgrounds. This is a mockery. We are the worse hypocrites. We should go back and read the Bible and ask God, what qualifies a nation to declare itself a Christian Nation. I am ashame these days, when we declare PNG a Christian Nation. We are not fooling anyone accept ourselves.

Section 45 of the PNG constitution deals with freedom of conscience, thought and religion, and makes no reference to Christianity. This omission is intentional. First, an explicit preference for a particular religion in Section 45 would be a direct contradiction of that very clause. Second, Section 45 emanates from rich Christian concepts that find their origins in God. The freedom to choose was given by God so that humans can decide to love and obey Him freely, for without the freedom to choose a person cannot truly love. It ultimately follows that a person can decide to not love and obey his fellow humans and God. Therefore, Section 45 when referring to the human right of freedom of conscience, thought and religion is not in contradiction with Christian principles and teaching. It is consistent with them.
