I felt the same way when I went through spine surgery, where they needed to replace 2 discs and repair other 2 that were damaged during a car accident I had. Now, 10 years later I smile when think about it. My advice to you is, don’t think too much about it, keep yourself busy and keep your family informed. In ten years you’ll be remembering and smiling about this, just like me.
