Loved this video. Was born in Tucson , raised in Phoenix.. then got the heck out of the heat and headed waaaay north. Visited Guadalupe with my father, who was a reporter. We visited this wonderful family. They had dirt floors but they were so worn down that the floor/dirt was hard and shiny. The people we so genuine and full of love and grace. Always will remember their kindness. Great video
Thank you John. We just found out we're Yaqui Indians. Funny, my Dad's half brother's last name is, Pedraza. I also went to high school in CA with a Pedroza family. Also, worked with a guy named Pedroza who was their cousin. God Bless, and God Bless our Veterans.
Lot of these folks don’t know their True culture the pascua yaqui are a native and indigenous tribe and are a strong people. Fighting colonialism of both America and Mexico.
I find “Indian” very derogatory. From what I’ve heard, some tribes supposedly prefer being called “Indian” where as others will be very offended. I’m trying to learn more about my Native heritage…Yaqui & Cherokee.
I remember when Guadalupe had no side walks and free roaming chickens everywhere! My family where one of the first settlers in East Guadalupe they are the Osunas .

"Seewa tomteme" (pronounced see-wah tohm-teh-meh) means "blossoming flower". It's a community center mainly used by the youth development programs in Guadalupe. There's a private garden in the back.
I joined the American Legion there in Guadalupe. We had a Veteran’s Day Parade and placed a wreath at that memorial. I’ve met several nice people in that village.

Pascua Yaqui is the name of the tribe that runs the town of Guadalupe Arizona. I can understand the confusion though becausw Guadalupe Arizona is near Mexico and the town predominantly speaks Spanish.

Im part of this tribe but sadly wasnt raised knowing about it. Now im an adult withchildren and dont know how to share our culture. And just wondering why do we have to "prove " who we r but are limited as to how far back we can be traced as native? 🫶

The Yaqui are originally decended from the Native ancient Mexico tribes, so yes, they would honor those roots

@@AG-xs6up unfortunately a lot of records have been erased. I have done some genealogy and it can get hard tracing some routes.
