I am an actor and content creator with Hollywood credits including roles on Lucifer (Netflix), Starlight Christmas (Hallmark), JT Leroy (Universal Studios), etc. In this channel, I offer insight to Kpop performances using my 10+ years of training in dance, acting, singing and overall performance. In dance, my forte are contemporary and musicals and have done most of my performances in theatre. this performance is inspired by a movie "terminal" they are performing as a twin assassin who is left and harassed by their father and got revenge. the part where ryujin and yeji stood side by side and ryujin mumbled "i'm scared" is also a reference to the movie where the other twin wanted to commit su1c1d3 but was saved(?) by the other twin or yeji

The song itself is about bipolar disorder. I think they’re clever for using a twin concept to portray the message of the song especially at the first chorus where they look like fighting each other/pushing each other out. They look like the same person but different, kinda like representing the two opposite sides of a person with bipolar disorder.
Ryujin's bangs wasn't fake, it's real meanwhile to be able to look like twins, Yeji was the one who adjusted and had to add the fake bangs and Ryujin's two symmetrical moles on her face. It's beautiful they really looked twins

The twin concept was barrowed from the movie Terminal with Margot Robbie where she plays twin assassins. The ending pose was in the movie after they had a dude strapped to a chair and took a huge needle through his eye, the stood there with the hands overlapped and looking at their work. The Choreo is expressing the song lyrics, but the look is from the movie.

I heard this actually had a movie reference, but this performance together with the song made me interpret it as struggling with your inner demons but your just as bad as them. Like she doesn’t need her demons to make her bad cuz she’s already bad enough by herself, so she doesn’t know who is who, which is why the roles shift, one controlling the other and then the opposite

The song itself, as a mood, is both empowering and depressing. As the line “I can break my heart myself” shows you’re independent. But it’s also very sad when you think about breaking yourself apart. It’s such an interesting line, as it displays two meanings or perspectives. Which is why I love this song and I commend to the writing of it.

I mean that they are doing amazing, but personally, I still expect something more powerful or more unexpected after that part of partner dancing ( I don't know how that part is called exactly 😅) because the music is getting to its climax so I wish that the choreography would change too rather than just be the same as the verse before.
However, this performance is still great and worth seeing overall.

I get you! It felt like the specific “kick” was missing from the choreography even though it was still really well executed. I expected them to have something really hard hitting in it, so I was a little disappointed to not see it.

That would be random and meaningless for the whole choreo. Jesus, did she expect them to go backflip or something for no reason so it fits to climax of the music? 🤦🏻♀️

So, Yeji and Ryujin said they were inspired by the movie Terminal. In the movie, Margot Robbie play twins who were abandoned by their father and abused by their teacher when they were kids, so when they grow up they want revenge and go after their teacher and father. That's why Yeji and Ryujin have similar clothing, hair and make up, but in different shades and if you pay attention to their expressions, while both have a little bit of "maniac" expressions, at times during the performance Ryujin expresses fear while Yeji expresses cold/lack of empathy - some comment

The one thing that's clear for me from the lyrics up to the way they portray the dance is tied into Bipolar Disorder, where you experience hypomanic and manic stage hence the break my heart myself.
