Episode 80: DOCTOR STRANGE Marvel Comics Superhero Figure Statue Review by Applause 1997 DR STRANGE

While DC Direct was setting the tone with their line of DC Comics-inspired character statues back in the mid-1990s, and before Bowen Designs acquired the license to produce Marvel Comics character statues taking them to an unprecedented level in quality in the late 1990s, Marvel Comics characters were getting the 3-dimensional treatment from companies such as Creative License and Applause. This Doctor Strange statue was produced in 1997 by Applause and has been sitting in storage since then. Price points for statues such as these were very low compared to today's costs and the quality of these sculptures was hit-and-miss as collector demand was certainly not anywhere near what it is today. Collectors such as myself were just tickled in seeing these great characters appearing in 3-dimensional form.

Dr. Strange was created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko for Marvel Comics back in 1963. He first appeared in Strange Tales #110.
