This is possibly the finest live performance by a female singer that I have ever heard. I have been hunting for more information about the amazing Vladislava Todorova (Vasileva?), but have found little info other than she sang live with Irfan from 2006-2009. In my opinion, Vladislava is an exceptional talent who deserves a world stage.

'folk' is with a pop/oriental and ususally serbian/turkish/greek influence, and rather expresses profanity esp. with lyrical content- in other words, we also call it 'chalga'. 'folklore' music is the ethnic folk music, that might be with various arrangements or with an original sound.

This song is about the time when Bulgaria was under the ottoman rule and these soldiers are Muslim ottoman men who kidnapped the butiful Christian girl.

Yes, they do put some oriental style in executing it, yet this is original Bulgarian traditional song! So it is quite normal for a Bulgarian group to play a Bulgarian traditional music, isn't it! So, the Dead Can Dance copied a Bulgarian traditional song not that Irfan copied DCD! Greetings

I just was trying to explain the origins of this wonderful music, some people believe that it's a copy of Dead Can Dance which is totally wrong. I was just saying that Irfan is the real bulgarian music and explaining that Lisa Gerrard was listing to this music in Melbourne because her neighbors had türkish or greek roots, which is very close to the bulgarian culture.

Christophe MARTINEAU sorry, this is not Turkish-Greek music at all! Bulgarian traditional music is much older by thousands of years than any Greek music not to mention Turkish one! Yes, they do put some oriental style in executing it, yet this is original Bulgarian traditional song! So it is quite normal for a Bulgarian group to play a Bulgarian traditional music, isn't it! So, the Dead Can Dance copied a Bulgarian traditional song not that Irfan copied DCD! Greetings
