Still blows my mind that out of all the groups, Steve Smith was in Journey. He really played down to them to help rock the arenas haha. What a phenomenal talent!

The pressure to over play is hard to resist. Buddy "live" could be insane or super chill. He was comfortable in his ability. He could bring chills by what he didn't play. It was scary good. I usually left the show in a state of shock. I took up the instrument when Nixon was elected. Hehe.

Apprezzabile l'omaggio del grande Neil batterista progressive ma ne viene fuori uno swing tedesco purtroppo...

There is no doubt that Neil Peart held back. He claimed to have issues hearing the band.

He also had to take lessons to do this concert. Jazz is a different beast than his percussive heavy style.

Buddy Rich looked down on non-Jazz drummers.

It bothers me as a 40 year veteran drummer that these guys use a double kicker bas petal so much. This was not available back in the days of the birth of jazz drumming. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm a metal drummer, but a true fan of jazz... And I if course use it. But in jazz .. I wouldn't ... Somehow takes away from the feel

All excellent drummers, but none of them even come close to the sound of jazz.

Buddy Rich was a great drummer, let's see how he would have performed playing Rush.
Neil Peart is not a jazz drummer, he was great at progressive rock and playing Rush music.
But what he did inspired so many drummers it's hard to quantify.
He inspired me to play drums better.
Neil's legacy is his amazing drumming for Rush, his unapologetic but tasteful aggressiveness and the shear number of people he inspired to pick up real or air-drums.

I give Neil a lot of credit for getting out of his comfort zone to play this kind of music .
