@@galactictomato1434 And how does that help with the fact that this device has useless gigabit ports? You don't need ccr2116 to handle that kind of speeds.
I personally had massive stability issues with the RouterOS v6 Mikrotik CCR2004-1G-12S+2XS's running x2 Full BGP Tables and OSPF for the loopbacks, so much so that I ripped them out of my network and put in CCR1036's instead. As soon as I put in the CC1036's my issues went away. I came to the conclusion that the ARM chips and RouterOS v6 just don't work well together. This new Mikrotik CCR2116 Router does look good, but my main concern is that it will basically only be stable on RouterOS v7? That said this Router does look pretty good :)
Eva, what is the difference between TILE and ARM MikroTik architectures? Also, what is the stability of the architectures? Why are all other CCR decides on TILE architecture and this not?
Like you already mentioned, TILE is an older architecture and MikroTik is slowly transitioning to the newer ARM. Most of the new devices are ARM. They are both stable and powerful, but ARM CPUs are more popular and affordable right now
If the CCR2004 came before the CCR2116, doesn't that make it its older brother? Disregarding that, this might be just the thing I was looking for for my new house. Completely overkill for my use case, just the way I like it.
Why ccr2116-12g-4s+ only has 128MB storage? Is that enough? If compare with the CCR1036 which has storage 1GB. Is that because the architecture is different? (ARM vs Tile)
the tests at 3:10 seem misleading... that specific model that was tested against has no SFP+ ports, and the total forwarding capacity you could get out of that is 16 Gbps... which is exactly what the test achieved, suggesting the interfaces are the bottleneck and not the CPU. i'd expect if this was tested against one of the other CCR1036 models that do have SFP+ ports the throughput would be significantly higher and these comparison numbers wouldn't look nearly that impressive.
Still single core for BGP convergence? Gigabit connections? No one use Gigabit connections today in datacenters for BGP , I hope 8 or 16 SPF+ or 8SFP+ and 2 QSFP28...

You need minimum 5 x sfp+ ports. Preferable more. Or even 25Gbps ports. Normal sfp ports is a waist of space. If you realy want to play with the Big isp's then please up your game.
While SFP ports have no waistline, you've got to understand that these are _software_ routers... Yes, BGP benefits from the massive increase in single core performance combined with ROSv7, but MikroTik will never play with the big boys without integrating ASICs/FPGAs. Since the costs involved would be passed on to the end consumer, it simply won't happen. Especially not on the scale that would be required to come even close to what enterprise vendors like Juniper deliver. It's just unrealistic.
