SOLI DEO GLORIA!
If you prefer simplicity, analog, and tube over digital, then this is just the ticket!
Enjoy :)
sorry if it was you: thought it was a SCAMMER? in the reply to my comment on this video> wheres my prize Darrell ! lol
Hey I think there is a scam account going around with your icon and everything. It keeps wanting me to use telegram.
This thing sounds as good as any combo I have.
I love the simplicity, physical knobs with one function each. It sounds very convincing, much like a real tube amp.
That sounds really nice to my ear.
Sounds pretty excellent. I do love a simpler setup, and this would make that a reality for me. I'm really enjoying this channel. It inspired me to do my first kit build using many of your tips. I can't wait to start modifying it. Feel free to reach out if you want any guitars/equipment from Japan. I'd be glad to help.
Gotta love the up close photo of the pedal where we get 5 reflections of Darrell holding a camera.
Finally, thanks for the video. Needed this 10 years ago.
I have that exact guitar, nice! Everything sounds good, I'm attracted to the pedals simplicity because I hate digital displays and fumbling through the options although the ability to create presets is nice but simple wins for me.
You have good taste! 🎸😁
@@DarrellBraunGuitar BTW if you want to give that Fender FMT some updates the Black Fender staggered locking tuners, Black Schaller locking strap buttons (Schaller makes Fenders locking strap buttons) and Black Fender American Series String Guides look and work awesome on that guitar. But FYI (if I recall correctly) despite the headstock already having 2-pin alignment holes the pattern doesn't align to the Fender locking tuners so you need to jig new alignment holes and I also think I recall the post holes need to be reamed out to 10mm (I think from stock 8mm). That specific Tele model has non-standard stock tuner specs from other comparable MIM Tele's.
Thanks Darrell really great coverage of what it has to offer.
Wow! That really sounds like an amp!
Very cool device as a carry-around device for plugging into a monitor or PA. Nice tones from it.
So artsy how your reflection shows up in all the knobs!
This pedal did sound pretty good, but I just like the idea of having the full amp there...
That sounds great!! A strat demo with that would have been interesting. Seems that with "solid state" devices (and amps) a single coils don't stand up versus the DH.
Definitely not.
Can you briefly explain for the uninitiated (me) how we are listening to the Ampster? Is the final output thru your amp speaker cabinet, thru a direct line output or what? Thanks.
Sounds really good and natural, you also hear the tube, opposite to a lot of other amp-in-a-pedal-solutions, which I have heard or tried during the last time.
If you need more "beef", add a PlexiTone or Kaluna, and you easily get everything up to Heavy Rock easily and in excellent quality. Only for Metal you certainly need a different solution.
The balanced DI out also is nice for recording. Even on my C.A.B. M+ the difference in quality is noticeable, if I use the XLR or the jack plug. But also the Ground lift can be helpful.
Sick!!
might need to try one out!
Surprisingly warm sounding!
Something that Laney IRT-Pulse tried to do, but failed (cannot get convincing tones without additional EQ). Now we have Blackstar Dept. 10 dual drive, Two Notes Revolt, and this one. I wish someone will make shootout for all of them. Ampster sounds intriguing here.
Exactly! 👍 I play at church and we've converted to the ampless stage like so many. I've owned and sold the Simplifier and the Amp Academy, both of which were too grainy and artificial sounding. I'm at an impass between the Ampster and the Revolt, having been so disappointed with digital simulators and really liking what I hear from these two tube driven analog platforms.
I have tried so many different preamp options. Currently have the revolt but not loving it. Looking at Ampster or Friedman IR-x. Or maybe an AMT pedal
My experience with analogue amp simulators is that they sound like farts when you put overdrive, distortion or fuzz pedals through them. This one seems to sound more like a real amp even with pedals.
Sound track working fine now.
And one thing to mention: It´s almost noiseless , nowhere near the noise of a "normal" amp.
How would you compare the Ampster against the Humboldt Simplifier? IMO both units follows the same approach.
I use a DSM Black Clouds through a cab sim and into a PA. Love it.
Formats like this are perfect for someone like me. I got a UA dream 65 as I only need one amp type and want simple controls. This seems similar but with the added benefit of a valve
Sounds good with those blues licks in first part of the video.
Nice!! Great tones. This would be convenient in a small space.
Is there any post processing done here, apart from the reverb? The sound of the Ampster with the Morning Glory side of the Double Barrel is fantastic. Just need to know if there's more to it than meets the eye
You always seem to come up with some very tasty riffs for these demos.
Very cool device. You always get the coolest stuff!
Please check the Ibanez RGDR4327
👍
That is the best playing I've ever seen on this channel. Possibly cause of that blues style.
The device that has well and truly replaced my traditional amps is the BluAmp Amp1 Mercury. I've not found anything more musical and practical both in the digital and analog domains. In my opinion, despite being 10 years old, it should be the benchmark device for any new "amp in a box" system. But it doesn't seem to have caught on in America or Canada - I enjoy watching gear videos, and so often when a device like the Palmer here is praised, I'm asking myself whether the reviewer is aware of the Amp1 and the fact that it has been able to do what new Blackstar or Palmer gear does, for 10 years, only better.
I agree, it sounds amazing
Nice demo with very good sounds. 10 times better than Pete Torn's demo of the Ampster with very thin sounds !!
Reminds me of a DSM simplifier... But with less options
Love my Boogie V-Twin pre with tubes!
I noticed reverb on your playing. Where did that come from? Also does it have a power amp in it? Or do you have to link out to a power amp to play at even practice volumes?
So the minimum signal chain would be guitar-cable-amp in a box- cable-output speaker? Does it need anything else between it and a speaker cab?
Sounded nice but the chug was weak
So wheres the reverb coming from!!!??
This begs the question: should we use a Countryman 85 DI box with Ampster when we want to record using a Godin A6 guitar or is Ampster enough?
Hi James the Ampster should be enough.
Dear Darrell, great presentation, thank you, only I didn´t find info about how you the chain goes on after the ampster. Did you go to monitor speakers or did you have an arrangement with a cabinet and a mic? Thanks for an answer.
Whoa whoa! Don’t go to crazy with all that noise!
During the demo at 2:42 is the reverb coming from the pedal or did you add it after to smooth off the sound? No shade if its added as I'd be adding a reverb too I'm just deciding which amp alternative to get. Cheers for the great review!
This is an unrelated topic, but did he ever demo the Blackstar St.James combos?
Unbelieveble!!!!
Is there a sequel to those fret board stickers coming soon?
Nice product, have you ever looked at a DSM Humboldt Simplifier? That product appears to be similar to the Ampster but with a few more features.
Great piece of gear! But for stereo at the end of my effects chain I would need TWO of these ... 🤔😟
AMT make some similar pedals that are worth trying. Their legend 2 pedals are really good.
Como siempre brutal. Gracias y mas ahora donde se esta dejando de usar los amps.
I missed demoing the different ”built in” cabs… Would have been nice to hear the difference 😎
And it's only 300 bucks. Sounds amazing at that price. I'll be getting one soon.
I am using only amp pedals now I have 3 different ones (6W, 20W, 75W). Only the 6W uses 9V power or my battery power pack. This sounds really great but I believe is not a stand alone amp (SIM out only). Shame this does not have a Reverb and a Boost built in or headphone output.
How do you connect the ampster in a Scarlett Focusrite or any kind of audio interface ? do you use the xlr input designed for mic ?
Via its XLR output
Thanks for the video it really got my attention .
I'm wondering if you described the link socket incorrectly. You said that it bypasses the cabinet emulation but my understanding is that it bypasses everything including the preamp so if you connect another amp you are getting the same signal that is arriving at the pedal. Other people have suggested that if you want to just bypass the cabinet emulation you can do so by plugging an IR loader or whatever into the send socket.
Hi Robert, you are corrent 🙂
I think it would be super cool if you reviewed signature guitars from big bands such as GreenDay breaking Benjamin guns n roses metallic etc.
Sounds great! Are you going out into a guitar amp or Sound card?
How is this different than a regular pre amp since you still have to go into a converter?
What converter do you mean? AD/DAC? If you record your real amp with microphone, then anyway it should be converted to get recorded and then played back. What is the problem with that?
No problem. There are rack preamps with effects like the old ADA MP1. I was asking is this was like that. The ADA output could be run to a converter without an amp.
@@stevepierce2457 I still don't get the question. What converter you are talking about and why it matters?
Hey Brother... Been watching and enjoying your vds for a while. Just watched one from 8 years ago. " Bring the beard back". LMAO JK. thanks for all the vds.
Hi Darrell! I'm looking for a tube pedal to put before my digital plugins to give to my sound a "tube touch". Do you think that this pedal could do the job? Thanks!!!
Interesting innovation.
Carl Martin makes some quality gear.
Would like to see this paired with a Synergy preamp
Thanks for the video.
Can I use a real cabinet with this amplifier? Can this output called "Link" being used for speaker output?
I use boss ML2 in live scenes. Of course, I use whatever amplifier is on stage. I have my own mesa 2x12 cabinet. Can I use Carl Martin ampster as an amp head? I think I'll use the xlr output when I'm too lazy to move the cabin. This pedal seems to get me through any situation.
Are giveaways done through telegram from your channel?
Would it work with effects send, into reverb/delay then direct to a full sized amp's effects return jack?
can get an adjustable one and lock it in on our 120v 50 hz...no need for the adapter.
Are you giving away a red fender strat with a case?
This is cool
You should check out laney loudpedal
Most of these PC ports aren't used, but except for one usb. There is an option to plug more speakers into your amplifier, when all you had was hyper drive toys powered by 9V. Might not be aware that's what you imitating with holding a pick with volume rocker. Let's be clear you getting Ibanez, is it best to have - there will be no answers. Must have a big wooden desk so nobody would see it on your car dashboard. Problem should have it as software, but they resist with usb-c audio driver.
Can you do a review of Fender austiasonic guitar. and a review of how to use guitar amps for different sounds
Watch you all the time
Joan
Meant to type acoustisonic. Sorry.
What is the song you use for the intro?
Of course it's a great pedal, it's a Danish product.. Where I come from...... 😊👍🍺. Cheers ..
Great gadget
What epiphone lp is with out push pull pods..??need 1 without that stuff
Sounds great, but that chugging! Who votes Darrell does a chugging lesson? Please, please Darrell!
Will you review ToneX?
DB will this work straight to a powered PA speaker like Mackie SRM350v2 ?
Yep that would work really good.
@@Pedalmakers THANKS !
I guess you would still have to have some quality speakers.
It's been years since I used my amps.
Low gain setting sounds quite o.k., high gain (with metal distortion pedal) not really convincing, sounds muddy.
Very nice. I've been looking for a good tube pedal preamp to do exactly that. Give me real analog and tube tone and reaction without all the other junk in a modeler. And real, not a mediocre copy of a tube circuit. This is not quite what I want though. I don't see why you need a switch for the cabs, when I think many like me would pick one and leave it.
After all, with a real tube head, you don't go changing cabs mid show. I need two channels. A good clean and a good dirty, that I can boost with pedals. And it doesn't need to be super small. It can be the size of a FM3 (which I'm trying to sell mine of) or a Cortex, and still fit on a pedal board with other pedals. Not if it means cutting features and tone.
Did you give one a go? Also check out the Effectrode blackbird, tubesteader preamps and Kingley preamps, might be what you’re looking for :)
Digital and solid state devices- amps, pedals and software, are the equivalent of eating on paper plates. Tube amps are akin to eating on fine china with excellent food, great friends and having a wonderful time.
Tube amps are 4 dimensional. The alternatives are 2 dimensional.
However, it is amazing what is being produced in the artificial world. They are fun and offer a cheap, or at least a cheaper way to experience many high end sounds. Much of it is mere novelty acts.
There is an aspect that guitars are becoming simply, input devices.
Toys, Toys, Toys. Our Toys addiction will be the i/o switch of us all.
How much does the unit cost?
This thing is still quit pricy, you might as well put a little more and get a small tubes amps.
The pedal is cool...BUT...that guitar is killer.
I get a kick watching nonmetal guys "chugging". Krank that gain up let's hear it chug! Lol. Looks like a nice sounding pedal amp for sure.
That definitely needs to be demoed with a Stratocaster too get the full picture of it's abilities.
Sounds good in the video, unfortunately that tells me nothing about how it will sound IRL. All I can really tell in the video is the EQ curve.
Here is the problem. Other company’s have pedal AMPS that can go right into a speaker.
So could I use this as a head into a cab if all I have is a cab?
No. It's a preamp in direct box form. I was watching for that question to be answered.
You can buy some power amps in pedal form that you could put after to power a cab :)
That in Europe comes without a power supply, wouldn't mind an European one in the package :)
Hi Paulo, no they come with a EU PSU now, it's the first batch that didn't have the PSU ;-)
@@Pedalmakers too late now, already bought one 😁
It's 9v powered?
1 amp though
The sounds are real dark I prefer more highs
Can di that as well
first
You were second.
🏆
That little box is for me. I'm sick of 5,000 choices and amplifiers and cabs we're at really in reality no service only use a couple things and pay some outrageous crazy price for a piece of gear we never even use the 3rd of gorgeous guitar and gorgeous sound at Guitar to Daryl
John, this is a good take. I'm an old farther and I have a fender mustang amp with about a million options that I can't figure out how to program properly. This thing sounds like a great investment for someone like me.
Yeah the more the world goes digital it makes me want to Retreat to analog. I think was a much more Superior found anyway it had heart and soul to it. Over the last year I've gotten rid of a lot of things from my home studio breaking it down into more of an envelope Studio. As much as possible I do record on my PC but it's just a multi-track stereo recorder you can't go in and edit note-for-note pull out things you don't like to put them back in place else. It makes you be more of a musician when you can't do that. I would rather play something 100 times to get it right. Cheat my way through editing things so much that it sounds robotic. Don't feel bad because you can't figure out some of this digital programming things You Are Not Alone. I think people have taking the joy out of music by not wearing the same using Auto-Tune everything you don't have to tune your guitar you can audit unit pretty sad. Don't claim to be a professional anything. But I personally think that's why music is gone the way it has now nobody wants to put in the work to learn how to play instrument they just want to make some odd noises and pasta together make a couple verses and words bring them together and call that a a song pretty sad by my estimate. People cheat herself out of the joy of learning. And I really think the long run people that do that well really come to regret it I think music is the gift from God. Especially songwriting. How else can you explain waking up in the middle of the night and grabbing a guitar keyboard and out of midair in just a few minutes you have a beautiful piece of music come to you I can't find another explanation. Keep on playing my friend have a good one
How much does it cost?
@INBOXDarrell_BraunGuitar scam...reported you.
Hamster
Dude, I need this box! How many watts is it? ELO84's or 6LP6's? Is it transgender friendly? Covid compatible? Would Elon approve? Can it get Eddys "negro sound?" Asking for a friend
