- This is the last amateur, competitive performance by Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean of their Free Dance to Ravel's Bolero at the World Figure Skating Competition in 1984. The venue is the Civic Centre, Ottawa.

The best ice dance ever; so elegant and timeless. These two deserve their legend. I love Jayne's petiteness and grace; and the dress was also fabulous.

This was the best ice dancing I had ever seen at the time and in 2010 it still is the greatest I have ever seen. Thanks Vienna for this video.

This gave goose bumps then and it still does. They were skating as a complete unit - perfection.
There is an indelible impression of flight in the way they move across the ice as one. It would be a brave (and heartless) judge who didn't award a 6. For some of us, Bolero is always purple and lasts only four and a half minutes.
It was also a kinder and more innocent time, when we found it easy to say 'Great Britain' and when perfection (not banality) was applauded.

The way Betty Callaway stood back at 7.37 to allow Jayne and Chris to take all the applause shows what a lovely lady she must have been. In effect, she won the medal as well for being their coach.

They danced as one. Elegant and classy.I saw them in person in Toledo in 1985 and I had chills running up my spine. We could hear their blades slicing the ice.
That was the best...what can you say but W-O-W- even to this day no one can touch this...
My be I am a little bias, but hands down I have never seen another couple skate so graceful and on point with the music. I get that ice skating has changed, but now it is a bit too rough for me. Torvill and Dean are set in stone.

They are still breathtaking - just watched new version of Bolero, with fab drummers, on final of Dancing on Ice 2013 - Inspiring beings with perfect devotion to their craft and no doubt themselves.
The best Ice Dancing couple in world is Torvill and Dean for Great Britain the record they set may never be match 13 perfect scores they truly are the best !!!

Wasn't this the one that was delayed due to a power cut? I seem to remember staying up until about 2am with Mum and Dad (in England) to watch it.

Jayne Torvill/Christopher Dean in a class of their own i never liked watching skating till they come on the scene and because they from my town nottingham i just watched because of that, then came champions of the world 5times then skating went down hill then nobodys watching they were the best in the world,who think nottingham would have the best skaters ever on this planet
I wouldn't want to be the couple that had to come out and skate after this!
