Extra long Amtrak Ethan Allen train 290 at New Haven & Middlebury, VT with 12 unit consist 8/6/23

  • Following flooding rains on Thursday, August 3 along the Ethan Allen's route in Middlebury and Rutland, VT, the first southbound Ethan Allen out of Burlington since the flood sported an extra long consist. Northbound Ethan Allen 291(3) was stuck due to floodwaters and split into two; one car and one engine returning south to Rutland to offload remaining passengers, and four cars and one engine left in or near Middlebury. The four cars and one engine were brought north to Burlington by Vermont Rail System power on Saturday, August 5, and coupled to the trainset that came north on 291(5) to return south on 290(6).
