- Virgil Ortiz, an artist from Cochiti Pueblo known for his pottery who was recently honored with the Living Treasure Award by the Museum of Indian Arts and Culture, has launched a new immersive installation at Meow Wolf Santa Fe’s House of Eternal Return.
Combining the artistic mediums of sculpture, film, costume design and photography, Ortiz develops a spaceship interior for his Recon Watchmen characters that transports viewers simultaneously back to the year 1680 and forward to 2180. Rooted in Indigenous futurism, Ortiz’s work draws upon the Pueblo Revolt of 1680, a piece of lesser known history that Ortiz is dedicated to interpreting throughout his prolific art career.
His works have been shown in the Stedelijk Museum- Hertogenbosch, The Netherlands; Paris’s Foundation Cartier pour I’art Contemporain; the Smithsonian Institution’s National Museum of the American Indian; the Virginia Museum of Fine Art; and the Denver Art Museum. And now, “Sirens: Passkeys and Portals” in a permanent exhibit in Meow Wolf Santa Fe.

This is what I like about this channel. Draws folks in with retail hell theme parks and interdimensional public transport, and then shows them whole new perspectives on stuff that they would never have been exposed to otherwise
All your 🍋🍋🍋👁🍋 are belong to us.
It's like you can feel the underratedness and immense talent in the air
What a talented artist! Beautiful!
🙌🏼💯🙌🏼 we are all the same… with different stories….Awesome Costume Work !!!
ugh, i wanna see this in person! ceramics is so hard to master, but SO pretty! and that style is translated into a sci-fi aesthetic 😲
Amazing! I know some indigenous peoples ordered time in a cycle instead of linear. So present events would be a re-occurrence of the past, but I've never thought of that from the opposite direction with the future doubling back instead.
I have a lot of love for what you are doing and as soon as I heard you were doing a installation I am there and it opened me up to getting out of Colorado Springs for a trip down to Santa Fe. Thank you I can wait to return.
both the new rooms in Santa Fe look outstanding. Gah so temping to make another drive down from Denver...
🤩
Amazing. I'm Goth too.
