I've heard this sung by many wonderful sopranos - Netrebko's version seems to be the most appreciated, but wow, this lady's version - Pumeza Matshikiza - raises the hairs on my neck ... total magic.. !!!!!

Somebody was saying Renee Fleming and Jessye Norman, But she is actually more akin to Price, but with less scooping into the notes. When it's a glissando, that's different. It's when you don't land on the note directly (and you have to scoop up to it) which is a slightly annoying habit. It's better to land right on the note without the scooping. But her glissandi are fantastic here.
My heart was quivered by this music .
Suffering , sadness , fear , lamentation and joy are all in this music .
Its like Renee Fleming and Jessye Norman had a vocal baby.

Not very true for me... I never liked Renee's vocal qualities and I can't listen to her scooped notes. This woman has a far more beautiful tone: there's no edginess to it.
This song should not have each note spiked out. It should be as legato as possible. With Renee, you're going to get each note almost with a pointed accent, and her lower register is going to sound awkward and a bit undeveloped.
Nobody can compare with Jessye Norman. Jessye had the lungs of death... Nobody did the Strauss four last songs at such a slow tempo. You have to have big lungs for this. The only other person with lungs who could sing long phrases was Caballe, but Jessye was the best, hands down.
I have worked with both; and I was friends with Jessye.
This woman is in her own league. She's unique. You can't compare her to anybody because I've never heard anything like this. The quality of the voice is wonderful: she has a REALLY great instrument to use, but her lungs are clearly smaller because she has to go at faster tempo to keep the volume and complete the phrase.
I had the honour of hearing you sing last year in Johannesburg. Thank you for sharing your talent with the world and your home country.
