Dude you really need to check out Wintersun and their song Sons of Winter and Stars (ua-cam.com/video/Tl5T-glTdXw/v-deo.html). The drummer and bass are now playing for Nightwish. Where the drummer you have been seeing is a great drummer and showman, Kai (that came to Nightwish from Wintersun) is a technical beast.

About "Romanticide" - it's a song about the death of romance, in a relationship full of betrayals and lies, with the destruction of dreams and invested hopes, and in the end - the cry of release, that's how I interpret it.

@@IronSmokeLTD Official Nightwish videos have correct lyrics with really accurate time sync, too. Just press the letter C in keyboard to toggle captions on/off. And you can also customize the rendering style of the captions using the gear icon - subtitles - options. I personally prefer background and window opacity at 0% and black outline for white letters.
'Song of Myself' is the next song to react to from this concert.
You'll appreciate the drumming by their second drummer in "Devil and the Deep Dark Ocean".

As a former drummer myself and seeing around 200 different shows/artists Jukka is the best drummer I have ever seen live. The best songs to hear his drumming would be Slaying the Dreamer, Master Passion Greed, Scaretale, and Planet Hell.

Hey drum smoke haha , I am gonna throw up another suggestion, I know you have lots but I think this one is a gooder, Shudder Before The Beautiful live at Wembley, the show opener. I’m an older guy who grew up with many of the big hitter bands throughout 70’s/80’s/90’s and came across Nightwish by accident through a drummer Ami Kim who drummed to one of their songs . Btw she is pretty good , anyhow I haven’t missed a day of some Nightwish since and that was 3 years ago lol they are just so different and talented, Floors my favourite too . You don’t have to reply to me as no one else seems to so thank you , and I will be seeing all your NW reactions 🤘🏼💥🤘🏼

Every song, man. Every. Song. They're all so good! From my perspective, you can't go wrong with anything from Wacken 2013, but there's a few great things from Buenos Aires, Wembley, Tampere, the End of an Era Tour (you'd hear their original singer there). I'm not a drummer, so don't have a specific ear for what might interest you more than something else. I can just tell that Jukka and Kai both are master class. They all are, in this band. So despite that, I might recommend Song of Myself. I love the breakdown in that one. Glorious. Everdream hits like a locomotive in the second half of the song. Two of my favorites there. Both of these from Wacken 2013. Yours is an Empty Hope is pretty heavy, and a bit of a surprise. I'd suggest Wembley for that one. Storytime is another of my favorites, but for other reasons. Wacken also for that one. Others I saw had some great suggestions for drumming-focused listening, but I think as you might be able to tell now, all their songs are different, and they are all amazing! Knew you'd like this one though. Romanticide is amazing. Great reaction!

@@IronSmokeLTD Oh sure! I'm here for the ride. I love seeing people discover Nightwish, as it reminds me of when I did, and I generally had the same sort of reaction, and still get to when I see others go through it too. If you do get around to learning the Romanticide drum line, I think that'd be a cool video to see. I've never heard it isolated. I've also never heard drumming parts of songs I know specifically commentated for the drumming parts, so if you wanted to do some things like that in addition to music reactions, you might find some traction with that.

Nightwish has a heavier sibling called Epica. They are a dutch Symphonic Metal band with death metal influences. The growler and founder of the band Mark Jansen(no relation) brought Floor into her first band After forever in 1997. He left to form Epica in 2002. Epicas lead singer is Simone Simons and is also a Sorano like Floor. Consign to Oblivion will blow your doors off and introduce you to there drummer Ariën van Weesenbeek. Consign to Oblivion Live in Paris.
With so many transition, jukka timing is always perfect, This make all member feel sure and free to do their part. I miss him, very very miss him.
I went down the Nightiwish/Floor Jansen rabbit hole in early 2020 and have since been discovering how amazing they truly are just as I believe you will be in the coming weeks and months. Jump on the Nightwish train and hang on for dear life, it's one helluva ride!

Dude! How much I suddenly realized what I had been missing!
That's a 3 octave glissando that Floor does in tandem with Marko. I think Floor hit D6 there(don't quote me on that). Her range is listed as C3-F6. The studio version , from 2004, only has his 2 octave slide.
One of the few that Emppu really shreds on, as he and the entire band play what is needed for the song. They aren't out there to show off.
The lyric was 'double faced carnivore' .The song is about a romance that has died. It's over ,time to move on.

Yep, Marko sings on a lot of songs. Mostly backing or co-lead, but does lead in a few. Unfortunately , he left the band for personal reasons early last year.
A couple heavier songs (both with new drummer Kai) are Weak Fantasy (Tampere 2015) and Yours is an Empty Hope (Wembley 2015).

I love the ‘stank face’ by Emppu right after the Floor-Raid siren.
The more you hear from Nightwish, the more you'll become to the realization that this band not only is the real deal, but also happens to be the complete package.
With that i mean, you'll notice they have mastered so many different styles, timings, rhythms, and compositions that one thing has become a certainty.
That certainty is, ... if you had the powers to make them play any song or music of your liking, they would not only nail it, they would improve on it massively, they can literally play anything.
The musicianship in this band is orchestra-quality, fine-tuned to perfection to ensure this kind of high quality in all their live performances.

I think as a drummer you will probably appreciate Wintersun - Sons Of Winter And Stars (TIME I Live Rehearsals At Sonic Pump Studios). The current Nightwish drummer also played there and he is getting a nice workout in this song.

This is metal love song 🤘❤ Tuomas Holopainen (keyboards) writes and composes this beautiful music, he is our metal Mozart. But I will say million times how I love Jukka's drumming and his style. He is not the current Nightwish drummer because of his imsomnia at that time. But I never forget Jukka 💕

Song of Myself is the song that fully sold me on Nightwish, mostly because of the killer breakdown at the end that caused involuntary headbanging upon first listen. Which happened to be while driving on the freeway. This band is the very best rabbit hole, fall with abandon!

I think that everyone that hears NW has the same reaction as you... I've heard this song hundreds of times and STILL get sweaty palms! I also find my heart racing :D with a huge smile on my face and goosebumps... I am so mad that I only found NW in 2020 - the one good thing that came out of the pandemic lockdown. The NW army IS so positive and friendly - glad that you're a member.

Floor growls on yours is an empty hope while Marko sings. Some don't pick up on that thinking Marko growls while she sings deep. But if u know Marko's voice, it stands out . The valkry queen can surely do anything she wants.
You're on the right track for getting to the heaviest Nightwish has, but it's better for you to build up to that one. Meanwhile, for heavy, I'd suggest you react to Nightwish's performance of Yours is an Empty Hope, live from the Vehicle of Spirit show, at Wembley. You'll have fun with that one!

Romanticide is from the 2004 album Once featuring Tarja on vocals. It was never performed live with her. It wasn't until 2009 that it was finally performed live, with Anette on vocals.

Enjoyed the reaction. Love Nightwish, all of their band including both drummers. I am not a drummer, but the drums with Nightwish are always on point. Ariën from Epica is a beast too. And I Vlad from Jinjer also stands out to me. Also always loved the drums with Opeth. All those bands are a complete package though.

An eider is a sea duck that coat themselves with an oil to insulate their feathers, they are excellent swimmers and can disappear under water in a flash. A double-faced carnivore would be a deceitful hunter. So to me this line is basically saying I'm on to you now you deceitful person so you are not going to hurt me anymore.
This Wacken show was recorded for a blu ray disc release so there are very high quality video/audio of the whole 90 minute set.
I have a suggestion I really think you should react to Master Passion Greed it’s a track from 2007 and the emotions , power , and conflict that was going on around the former singer Tarja is poured out in this song if you want to hear some more great drumming and Marko vocals this is a masterpiece.🔥👍

If you want HEAVY Nightwish you have to go with a song that will never be played live, "Master, Passion, Greed" with the incredible Marco on vocals
I would add Bye, Bye Beautiful as well.
He needs to build up to that one. As a drummer in a band, he'll be more familiar with meanings behind the lyrics instead of just going straight into it. I agree on him reacting to it, but it will be even more powerful with knowing the story behind it along with the feel in that song.

Jukka is my all time favorite drummer, and even thou I love their new drummer too, I will always miss him. Jukka was not the fastest or the most technical, but he has amazing stage presence and his rhytmic choices, fills etc were always on point. Unfortunately there are no drumcams of him playing. But I definitely recommend that you just watch this whole show piece by piece. Edit to add, I hit save too soon; OMG you are the first to say they want to add it to their learn-to-play list. Sure, many say they'll add it to their music rotation, but you've taken it to the next level. I have watched thousands of reactions and have not heard that from anyone. Bravo to you for that - true musician there. NGL. I have a sheet music copy of Ghost Love Score for piano, and love trying to get through that one.

Great reaction, there are no two songs alike out of hundreds of songs . I will tell you Tuomas (Keyboard & composer) & Marco (Bassist & singer) wrote there heaviest song outta extreme anger about the husband & Manager of there 1st singer Tarja fired in 2005 they put it on the album in 2007 but vowed to never play live and never did . As a connaisseur of the harder metal as well, for me with Nightwish it is like: I'm obsessed with a couple of awesome songs, and I'm very indifferent about a lot of other ones. Some of the songs are too.. Disney for me. But dammit I love the songs that I do love! 😄
I love the variety with Nightwish. They do so many different styles (wanna hear a sea shanty?!), and do something unexpected with every single one of them. If you want a single band that can broaden horizons, this is one of your best bets! Having said that, the Wacken trilogy of GLS/Romanticide/Storytime is a good primer before possibly branching out into other shows.
This huge energy blast tells a story about the suicide/homicide of a romance. Tuomas is an excellent lyricist ("Eider covered in oil", "you double-faced carnivore" etc.). 😎👍
I almost feel it necessary to do a quick background for each song before I react! The more I learn about the song, the more I go back and listen to it again.

Since you asked... this is what I would like to hear from you. I'm not a drummer, so I don't hear these beloved Nightwish songs through your ears, but I want to. So teach me. Teach me what you hear and why you hear it. Teach me why it stands out to you... why it makes your heart race, why it makes your palms sweaty, and why it makes you want to get up and start jamming out. Teach me what it involves, the skill it takes, the techniques, the nuances of drumming. It comes naturally to you, but it's lost on me, so educate me. Make me aware. The Nightwish Army has heard these songs hundreds of times, and though we love to live vicariously through a new persons ears when they experience Nightwish for the first time, it's something really special when you can make us rediscover them ourselves by hearing something we didn't hear before or experiencing them from a different perspective... YOUR perspective.

NW’s lyrics are really well written and I do recommend turning on subs if you have an interest in knowing what they are. For NW videos I find them pretty accurate
