I asked for this song not long after you started your channel. I’m a 64 year old guy and this reminds me so much of my middle school years. Thanks for finally getting to it, so much appreciated. Please don’t stop doing the wonderful things you have going here, I love what you’ve been doing.
Remember it's 1973, so no computer alteration of voices. This is pure vocal harmony. You really need to find one of the live clips and you will really appreciate the artistry. Beautiful.
Yep. I was a 12yr old boy at the skating rink, just trying to skate couples to this one with some 13yr old girls to get a little whiff of that perfume, the 12yr old girls weren't wearing yet.
I can not begin to explain how HUGE this song was. There are so many songs you do that take me back, but this actually made me cry. Thanks for the memories
When I randomly came across this song again, I cried too. Their voices with the strings... I guess I was sad that I'd forgotten such a beautiful song & was so relieved to have "rediscovered it."
Some of these songs are like time machines. When I was about 7 or 8 years old in the early 70s, I'd get up with my mother at 3:00 am. We'd go to the warehouse to fill up the station wagon with newspapers to deliver, and then she'd drive around tossing the papers to people's driveways while listening to her favorite music before dropping me off at school. This was one of the songs I recall from that time 50 years ago.
I Know im going to see my om Elaine W in Heaven after i see my awesome Jesus Christ 1st and that will be very very soon. THIS SONG MAKES ME MISS HER EVEN MORE I was 13 in Kodiak Alaska when this song came out,She took good care of me me and my family so much
A beautiful example of the Philly Soul sound! This song came out in 1974 and peaked at #2 on the billboard hot 100 50 years! Also brings back precious moments of my wonder years
73' 9 yrs old, First song I recorded off the radio on to my new tape recorder. We did that as kids. Sometimes wait hours for your favorite hit song to be played, great times man! Once we captured it, we can play it over and over! Much love to you guys, thank you! ✌😅
Yup, same age. For my birthday my parents asked what I wanted...A Panasonic Tape Recorder..Recorder many songs..including my guitar playing. I still have the Recorder and those tapes of the songs..plus many goofy stuff me and brothers said..I get a huge kick out of those tapes..👍🍻😀
in 1975 I was in the navy and married the love of my life on May 3rd, and on May 5th my ship departed for our home port. I didn't get to see my lovely wife again for 18 months, and this was our song. Faithfully by Journey is another song that reminds me of that particular time, because I promised I would write her every day and I faithfully fulfilled that promise. We had 43 wonderful years together, until she passed away in 2018.
I didn't think I could hold a grudge for 50 years, but yup! I had this gorgeous song on a 45 and played it daily on my high-end stereo. My kid sister snatched it, snatched it I say! She took it to a sleepover at one of her little giggly friend's houses and honestly thought I'd never know. I took it out of the now ripped paper sleeve and found Cheetoh dust in the grooves. It must have played on repeat all night on a cheap, portable Partridge Family record player with a worn out needle. That beautiful harmony, from beginning to end, did nothing but hiss and pop and skip and crackle. In the end, I made her give me a day of her lunch money to buy another copy and I didn't talk to her for a week. Now, 50 years have passed, and I got agitated stomach acid. We love 600 miles apart, so I'll have to call her later. No, not later. So what if it's five in the morning. I don't care if I wake her. Hah! Thanks, guys. ✌️and ❤
I know how you feel. My brother snatched my original Beatles albums and wrecked them on his crappy record player. This happened about 50 years ago too.
I'm a classic rock guy. But, this has always been one of the most beautiful songs from my childhood. So well done. Those three ladies were both stunning and talented.
Whoa!!!! LEGEND !! Edit - - Guys, you've Gotta see the 'Live' version. It's visually stunning. Mesmerizing. Entrancing! (the Audio isn't Live, but to watch them perform it on stage...seated... b4 an audience... while the stage rotates.... is one of the best things you'll see - - maybe all year.)
I sit here looking across the room at my beautiful wife listening to this song that we both danced to in 1974 .All you young couples out there soak your youth up it will soon be you at our age ❤
This record was No1 in the UK exactly 50 years ago this week. It reached No2 on the Billboard Hot 100. The Three Degrees were only the 2nd girl group to have a UK No1 hit almost exactly 10 years after The Supremes who were the first with Baby Love in 1964. The Three Degrees were far more popular in the UK, Europe and Japan than back home in the USA. The girls vocals feature on the massive hit that was the theme for the Soul Train TV show- T.S.O.P. (The Sound of Philadelphia) by M.F.S.B. which was a US No1 single in 1974 and is regarded as one of the very first disco records. At the time this record hit it was summer and the whole vibe chimed with that holiday romance experience so many have while on holiday. It's a true classic. They had a run of big UK hits including a number of albums/singles written and produced by Donna Summers producer Giorgio Moroder. They were also famous for being a young Prince Charles favourite group and performed for him many times. All 3 girls shared lead vocal duties and were known for their exquisite 3 part harmonies. The group was originally formed in the mid 60s and had a few minor hits but finally got their big break when they signed with Gamble & Huff's Philadelphia International Records in 1973. The girls also appeared in the movie The French Connection and US TV show Sanford & Son.
The Three Degrees should have been much bigger than they were in the US, a truly sad reflection on civil rights in the Seventies. Like many black American artists of the time they enjoyed much wider success in Europe, where they were HUGE. ✌️
@@andymageen5308not questioning race issues in the seventies existed , but loads of Black artists had massive success in the 70s, including all female groups (like the Emotions). Female singers like Aretha Franklin, Dionne Warwick, Roberta Flack, Deniece Williams and others had hits throughout the 70s on pop and R&B charts. Donna Summer dominated disco and so many other examples, and those are just female artists. Stevie Wonder, Michael Jackson, Earth, Wind & Fire, the Commodores, and countless others. The 70s had wide variety of music, which very much included very popular Black artists.
@@andymageen5308 - Abba was much bigger in Europe as well. So was Queen, Cliff Richard, the Bay City Rollers, David Hasselhoff, T. Rex, Sweet, etc etc etc
Once again, we connect to the 70s and the greatest music of all time. The sound of Philadelphia and you can recognize it if you knew it back in the 70s some great groups.
I was 14 in Melbourne Australia when this came out and New Year’s Eve 74/75, had broken up with my boyfriend and this was the last song on the radio and I cried my little heart out for him. I was devastated. He is gone now and I was so sad when I found out, even after over 45years later. Thank you Mark W for being such a sweetheart.
It's so hard to realize that someone, anyone has not heard this tune. It was so much a part of the times back then et played constantly. Constantly. One of the things so unique about it was that YOU NEVER GOT TIRED OF IT, EVER.
1974 driving in my mom’s Montego in Northern California with their angelic singing and the San Francisco breeze filling the car. Great memories with this song!
Everything you hear from this era, from the music to the vocals are pure talent. There's no computer-generated sounds.. And these three Beautiful Women voices sound totally different than the Bee Gees. Like a lot of other groups. 👍🏽✌🏽 Back then no group sound the same.
Great 70s classic and that’s saying something as it was the greatest musical decade of my lifetime. These ladies represented the Philly sound and in fact did vocals on TSOP. Woman In Love is another great. I had a huge crush on Sheila Ferguson the lead singer. She ended up having a huge career in Europe and is still around and still a lovely lady to this day. Thanks for a great reaction and a special memory.
They were never off the TV or Radio here in Britain in the 70's, just raw talent, no auto tune or electronic music production, so many great songs including Woman In Love My Simple Heart The Runner Take Good Care Of Yourself Giving Up Giving in, and my personal favourite, Year Of Decision 🇬🇧
There's one video of them singing this song in front of an audience and they are so classy. I also like so much the way Sheila Ferguson pronounces the word 'love' when she says 'are we in love...'
Amazing and it’s crazy to think I took music for granted!!! I’ve known this song practically my whole life. I can’t remember a time where it wasn’t but to see your reaction with fresh tears is just so beautiful.
This group was born out of the early 70's "The Sound of Philadelphia" phenomenon. This genre also had it's own record label, Philadelphia International Records. The catalog is large, i.e., The O'Jays, Billy Paul, TSOP. This is a rabbit hole you definitely want explore.
One of the great hits of the early 70's. Rest in Peace to Ms.Fayette Pinkney. I remember them when they appeared on an episode of Sanford and Son with Rollo as their manager, funny episode. Another great Philly group of females was First Choice, they had many hits like " The Player ", Dr. Love ", " Smarty Pants", and my favorite song by them, " Wake Up To Me". The Philly Sound and Motown, just awesome music.
The girl groups of the early 70's, the over lapped from 60s. The Three Degrees, The Honey Cone (Want Ads), Love Unlimited (I Belong to You, Walking In the Rain) The Emotions (Don't Ask My Neighbour), ....by the second half of the 70s girl groups were all disappearing. I think the last big hit by a girl group was Labelle and Lady Marmalade.
These are the women who lent their voices to the iconic track "T.S.O.P." (The Sound of Philadelphia), which was the theme for Soul Train for many years. If y'all never heard it you should check it out. And make sure you load the version which has their voices, because there's also an instrumental version to this also.
Another beautiful song that warms my heart and brings me back 50 years. If it wasn't for music like this to make me dream of my younger days, I would just be old. Thankfully God blessed artists like this to create music that not only reaches the ears but reaches the soul.
So glad you finally got to this one. Brings back so many good memories. ❤❤❤ Too bad you didn't do the video of them sitting in high-backed chairs singing this. Absolute 🔥
THE THREE DEGREES - " Woman In Love " AMAZING and Beautiful song a Vocals R&B/MOTOWN/SOUL 1978 Classic you guys must hear the Soulful Voices of these beautiful ladies accompanied by some of the Best Music of this Decade super Creative and Wonderful 🎻 🎹 🎸🔥
There was a guy I had a crush on at my summer job when this song came out. As usual, the soundtrack of our lives had this playing on the radio as I drove home on my last day there.. *sigh*
Back in the early 1970s, i saw The Three Degrees when they performed at the Wisconsin (?) State Fair. They were the opening act for singer, John Davidson and this was my favorite song of theirs. Thanks for bringing back memories.
This song is what it's like to be in love. Always makes me wistful. That's also the Three Degrees singing on TSOP (The Sound of Philadelphia), which you reacted to with the drummer Earl Young.
The Three Degrees were on an episode of Sanford & Son back in the day. They invited Fred to their show and were last on the bill. When the opening act, a lame comedian, was performing Fred and his pals would get up and chant, "We want the 3 Degrees! We want the 3 Degrees!" Great episode and great song.
My favorite song of all time. I could listen to this on a loop 24/7 and never get sick of it. I have always loved the fact that every line is a question. I love all the live versions out there on UA-cam as well. They sound perfect live.
A great song and a classic one. The vocals are gorgeous but the instrumentation behind it is amazing! Whoever produced this song and wrote the music for it did an outstanding job. But the voices are magic.
Dude this song takes me SOOO back to my childhood every time I hear it. Never fails. I was about 10 years old when this came out, and it remained super popular for the rest of the 70s, to the point where, later on, I couldn't remember when it had actually been released. It seemed pre-Disco and yet didn't. It was totally 70s pop-soul and yet it almost had *something* 60s pop-soul about it in spots. And those ethereal, amazing vocals. It's gotta be one of the best pop songs ever made. The 70s weren't all bad. ;-)
This is one of those songs I first heard as a child that stuck with me. I have it on multiple playlists! It's pure ear candy and always makes me smile.
OMG! This song instantly transports me back to high school in mid 1970’s. Sitting by the phone (land line!) and waiting for my first boyfriend to call cuz back then girls didn’t call boys. My how times have changed!
One of the best U.K. Number Ones of the 1970’s. Another brilliant ballad is woman in love. Some great disco bangers like giving up giving in, the runner. My simple heart and take good care of yourself are good. They still tour with Valerie Holiday who has been in the group over 50 years.
The Three Degrees were part one of the original artists from the producers Gamble and Huff who created a new record label: Philadelphia International Records (PIR) in 1971 nicknamed the "Philly Sound" that became disco. Other artists the O’Jays, Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes, Billy Paul, and PIR’s house band, MFSB (Mother Father Sister Brother) as well as The Three Degrees, went on to become major international stars. The creation of PIR led the Philly Sound to musical dominance during the 1970s. As young people began looking for something besides the Beatles and the protest songs of the sixties, they heard what they liked coming out of music from Philadelphia. It was a new sound being played in the dance clubs in New York and Philadelphia, and now being brought to air waves via PIR. The sound was disco, which mixed the Philadelphia soul sound with pop and funk. The music always featured an irresistible dance beat. Their first number one disco song was T.S.O.P featuring the Three Degrees. ua-cam.com/video/LS2PQs_IRNk/v-deo.htmlsi=HsCDhFRfYBSnj6Gp

Jay and Amber been waiting forever for this group and this song, thanks, thanks, thank you! Peace ✌️ ☮️ and Love ❤️ 😍 Gary, Great reaction ❤❤❤ the 3 Degrees 👍👍👍 3 thumbs up!
The Three Degrees were huge in the U.K. versus the U.S., but When Will I See You Again hit #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in late 1974, the same year that they were part of a major #1 hit, The Sound Of Philadelphia (TSOP) from MFSB. You must check that tune out! It's one of the most iconic sounds of the 70s. Also, for another take on the Philadelphia sound, you should also listen to Elton John's 1979 hit, Mama Can't Buy You Love.

These are the women who lent their voices to the iconic track "T.S.O.P." (The Sound of Philadelphia), which was the theme for Soul Train for many years. If y'all never heard it you should check it out. And make sure you load the version which has their voices, because there's also an instrumental version to this also.
This song takes me back to a glorious summer in 1974 in Southern California this song was all over the radio. Great music.
I remember that summer and this song well a great time to grow up in SoCal!
Bro, me too. South Pasadena. I'm still here..born in 1964. SoCal was awesome in the 70's. The best..🍻👍😀
Only song that I know where each sentence ends with a question. Great song!
Too bad you didn't do the video of them sitting in high-backed chairs singing this.
This song turned 50 this year
Was #2 in multiple countries, including the U.S.
Prominently featured in the teen movie "Can't Hardly Wait"
Started my senior year of high school in 1973, we have our 50 year reunion next month. What a time for music in America!!!
Reached number one in the UK fifty years ago this week.
Such a BEAUTIFUL song!!
One of my very favorite songs from the 70s! I was 14 or 15 when this was released. Radio was so amazing back then!
Beautiful harmony and with so much heart and emotion!
My favorite song of all time. I could listen to this on a loop 24/7 and never get sick of it. I have always loved the fact that every line is a question. I love all the live versions out there on UA-cam as well. They sound perfect live.
This was MASSIVE in Europe when it came out. Beautiful classic soul!
My favorite female trio and song!
Sister Sledge 70s also
You can`t go wrong with either the Three Degrees or the Pointer Sisters, I can`t figure who I like better. Peace and brother love to you and all.
@@JayMac-kj9ktI have to add The Emotions as well.
Love this song. Their voices are so very beautiful! Love your reactions!
Bill's (David Carradine) favorite soul song of the '70s!! ❤
The 70s weren't all bad. ;-)
Remember this song well...early 70's...soft, smooth, easy-listening.
Does anybody remember when they appeared on "Sanford and Son"? That episode was hilarious 😂😂😂.
Absolutely love this song every time it comes on my 70s radio station. I was 5 yrs old when this song came out.
Obe of the most beautiful songs in the modern era.
They did vocals on the primarily instrumental: TSOP (The Sound of Philadelphia).
They nailed it on that song.
When I was a teen this used to be a popular tune where I went roller skating!
I remember those days. And the butterflies when the phone was actually for me!
One of the best U.K. Number Ones of the 1970’s. Another brilliant ballad is woman in love. Some great disco bangers like giving up giving in, the runner. My simple heart and take good care of yourself are good. They still tour with Valerie Holiday who has been in the group over 50 years.
I love this song!!!

One of my favorite songs from the 70's , also good by them is Maybe, Year of Decision and The Runner.
Great song they played often at the roller rink every week!
Great song, great group. 💙
One of my fave songs. Period. Poignant and ehtereal - the vocals/harmonies *chef's kiss*. The best Supremes song not sung by The Supremes.
Oh I love this song!
